  1. Well at least this will give ESPN something to talk about besides Lebron James.
  2. Sadly I had already considered Hendry doing something like this.
  3. His first half last year was really good and the tailed off in the 2nd half. I think he will be a plus .800 ops guy, which is good for CF. He isnt really a lead-off man though. When Maybin does come up in a couple of years, I think someone is going to give too much for Granderson.
  4. I am with you. My least favorite Stanley Cup champion since Colorado.
  5. jones, eyre and izturis for granderson Granderson will probably be available in a couple of years when Maybin is ready. I dont think Granderson would be a very valuable corner outfielder though. He is a pretty good CF.
  6. I know he will never get to the single season record of 36. Getting over 20 has been pretty rare since the 1920s though. If he gets into the mid-20s he will be in pretty select company.
  7. Pretty swimmingly, since Zito is a Giant. Whoops. That was a major brain fart. Until spring training I thought Zito was a Met too. The Giants must have signed him during a busy news time or something.
  8. I say lets shoot big. We give them Z, Aram and Soriano and they give us Wright and Beltran!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Should be Fontenot. Also I would bite the bullet and start working Soriano at 2nd in case ARam is going to be out more than a couple of days.
  10. Barring injury and an occasional day off I believe 1-4 is set for the remainder of the season however, 5-8... Yeah, we're gonna end up losing games just to try and trade a guy nobody wants. The more he is played the less his trade value is going to be. That is what is really sad. Maybe Floyd aggrevated his Rib thing.
  11. If the Cubs were to trade Z, I think we would be surprised what a Good GM could get for him. I think we will only be angry with what Hendry will get for him.
  12. I agee. This is not the only draft that has failed the Cubs. They are littered with players who have not made it. Their has got to be something wrong with the player development system.
  13. Chad Curtis, Old Tim Raines, So Taguchi, Todd Hollandsworth, Scott Podsednik all were primary LFers on World Champion teams.
  14. Keith Moreland wasnt a RFer either. I dont think he is going to be a good RFer but can be ok. No he will never have a great arm. The question though is who is going to play RF next year then? This team either has to resign Z or pay top dollar for another FA starting pitcher. This is also if both Marquis(a career first half pitcher) and Lily hold up. Like I said before the only doable option would be to trade Zambrano for a good, cheap RFer and hope to get someone in FA to replace Z. Since Hendry is not going to do this, I think the best option is Murton. If he doesnt pan out its not like we wasted time thinking that Jones or Floyd are the future.
  15. ... which is precisely why so many folks are brainstorming trade ideas. What trade option is going to be cheaper. The Cubs have a lot of payroll tied up for the next couple of years. They are not going to get a cheap replacement better than Murton without trading Z. Since this is not going to happen since Hendry is fighting for his job. The option that makes the most sense is to let Murton play right. Dont forget he had over a .800 OPS in his first full season of play. Pretty good for a first time player. I know he is no great shakes in Right, but its not like he has always played there. I know he doesnt have an arm but will improve his fielding. I know you dont like Murton but there really isnt a better alternative unless we can get one for Z. edit: I also predict if given fulltime play he will have a higher OPS than Soriano next season.
  16. Yeah he is telling us he would rather come to the Chicago Cubs and go to the clubs that the Score advertises!!!!!
  17. Who here thinks that? He really improved the team from when he took over. They just kind of stagnated their 3rd year. My dad who is a diehard Tiger fan was telling me 2 years ago how good the Tigers were going to be last year. So yeah I think Leyland did kind of walk into a good situation and Trammell kind of got thrown under the Bus. I also think Trammell deserves more Hall of Fame consideration than he gets Not just consideration. If you look at his numbers, he's a no-doubter. Truth be told I would much rather have had Trammell over Ozzie Smith in his prime. Trammell would have been a no-doubter if it wasnt for injuries. I also think that Lou Whitaker deserves more consideration

  19. Probably over-rated because he played for the Yankees. One of many who started with Charles Finley's AAAA Yankees farm club in Kansas City.
  20. If the Cubs are not gonna play Murton, maybe they can package him in a deal for Byrnes. Sorinano, Pie, Byrnes is a pretty good outfield. Why would you consider packaging Murton in a deal for Byrnes? If anything, they should get Byrnes plus others for Murton. I wouldn't hold my breath on that.......... Byrnes is what Murton will be if Matt doesn't improve. He's been around for a long time now, is in his 30's, makes millions, and has about 100 OPS+ for his career. Agreed. I just dont see why they dont stick Murton in RF. They are not going to be able to afford a better option. Floyd and Jones are no future and Pagan is a 5th OF at best. I know a lot of people are down on Murton but he is the best option the Cubs have in RF in the future.
  21. And a very annoying person to interview. Rickey is may all-time favorite "I wish we had but really dont like" He is right above Barry Bonds, Steve Carlton and Eddie Murray. edit: I would rather take a chance on Elijah Dukes than Joey Gathright. I would not be that excited about adding Dukes either.
  22. The Cubs would have never played Williams because he wasnt aggressive enough and Koufax would have been traded away after his first couple of years of struggling.
  23. And some bullpen arms. Ours aren't good, but these guys had Jose Mesa back there until recently. Jones and Novoa for Andrew Miller Who's with me? Heck I might even throw in Z.
  24. Personally I always thought if someone was suspended they shouldnt even be allowed at the ballpark the day of the game they are suspended. I am not trying to pick on Lou. I mean that for everyone.
  25. Since Sean Casey sucks couldnt the Tigers themselves use a LH bat.
