  1. I thought Narron did a good job with the Reds the last couple of years. Obviously this year something went wrong.
  2. For a couple of years I have been hoping that Hendry would fall in love with a high average, good field SS who also took walks. A couple of years too late on vizquel.
  3. I'm guessing because Fontenot has been slugging so well and driving in a bunch of runs that Lou wants to put him in more RBI positions by batting him near the middle of the order. Ok, Then why is Soriano batting leadoff?
  4. At what point is burning up options going to be more painful than just eating Jones salary?
  5. you should be embarrassed to be losing to someone with no sex stories I thought it was a story of Human suffering(with a sexual angle) and our ability to laugh at it.
  6. "All You Can Eat" somewhere
  7. didnt some Cub fans try this same thing last year?
  8. Darn noboy bit. Don't you ever do that again. If the real lineup hadn't been posted right after that, I almost might've believed you. Yeah it was a shame I didn't do it earlier. 8-) I was just skimming through page 8 only and saw this. I was about to blow a gasket when I seen the truth. So you did get someone
  9. For one game this is fine. If you were going to play a series or more you would probably have to drop DLee and add another infielder. Unless you are hoping that Soriano and Pujols can play 2nd and 3rd respectively.
  10. I also think part of all of this is that some of this talent is a little over-hyped by us the fan also. Barrett was never a good defensive catcher, Patterson was never a smart or disciplined hitter, Sosa was aging, Bellhorn was let go by the A's before he became a Cub, Walker rubbed several other organizations wrong. I dont think Jones has ever been overrated by the fans. That being said though we would have gotten more for Sosa if he was traded in 2002. We would have gotten more for Patterson in 2003. We would have gotten more for Barrett up to the beginning of this year. We would have gotten more for Bellhorn after 2002. I was always amazed that the Cardinals traded Ken Bottenfield and got Jim Edmonds. Cards knew Bottenfield was a fluke and Edmonds had A-holed his way off the Angels. Wouldnt it have been amazing if Jim would have realized Bellhorn was way over his head in 2002 and gotten someone good for him. Or Corey was not going to come close to his half of 2003 again.
  11. I kind of think that reporters are idiots and don't have a clue about much of anything. I dont disagree when it comes to general baseball knowledge. What I am saying is they are closer to the individuals than we are. They probably have a better idea what players are doing. This is why Ripken was always reported as being a great guy and Eddie Murray as being a wanker. I also think they kind of know who is doing and who isnt. This is why I think some players get the rep and some dont.
  12. Wasnt he always kind of outspoken with the test me stuff and what not. He also was a TE at Auburn so he was big when he came into baseball and hasnt really gotten any bigger. I am not naive and if it came out next week he was a user I wouldnt be shocked. I just dont think there is any evidence at all that points a finger at him. First Ballot HOFer. This is what annoys me about the steriod issues. Getting bigger doesn't mean a guy has or hasn't used steriods. I'm not saying that I think Big Hurt doesn't deserve to be in the HOF, in fact I believe he does deserve to be in. I'll be interested to hear what networks like ESPN have to say about guys like Thomas, Griffey Jr., ARod, etc. that all played in the "steriod era" and are HOFers in my mind. If you don't vote guys based on suspicion, or because they're guilty by association then none of these guys get in. The whole situation intrigues me, to be honest. I always found it funny that everybody assumed Frank had to be clean because he was a big college football player, as if big college football players never take steroids. Well, again, I don't know if Frank took enhancement drugs, or not. My point isn't that he should be held out. I just look at the situation and wonder how guys justify there position. Another example would be Ripken Jr. I don't think he did anything, but a guy w/ 430 HR, almost 650 extra base hits, and over 3000 hits and did part of it in the "steriod era." Again, it's not an attack on Ripken because I don't think his career is in question. I just find it bizarre that a media that questions everyone didn't question Ripken at all. I am usually not one to defend Ripken so dont take this wrong. I kind of think that reporters are closer to the situation than we are and probably strongly suspect more than they are allowed to report. For instance I know the people on my line who do drugs. I am there supervisor and may have a better feel for human nature or maybe its my past abuse, I dont know. I do know the ones who do drugs though. I am guessing that there are some reporters who kind of know who is doing what.
  13. I had a coach in HS who said that we shouldnt try to emulate Major league hitters, especially the great ones, because a lot of them get there more on talent and less on fundamentals. That was 25 years ago.
  15. I dont think the Cubs are changing to being the A's or the Red Sox but there seems to be an organizational switch in attitude since last season. Some players are being rewarded for being patient hitters who work the count. I have heard Lou say on occasion that a player is struggling because of lack of patience. Is it Perry? Is it Lou? Did someone finally break down the numbers so Hendry can see the value of OBP? I dont know. It does seem to be stressed a little more though.
  16. I actually like this deal on many levels. First as said he is not going to the Cards, Brewers or Mets. Secondly he wont be going to the Cards next year either. Lastly it may start to level what Starting pitchers are going to be paid this upcoming offseason. Hopefully Big Z can be had for less than I was expecting. I am not saying as low as Buerhle but maybe not as high as Zito.
  17. Funny what a couple of wins over Tampa Bay will do for the team.
  18. if this is the list of candidates. It will become real easy to show the world how bad MacPhail is. Davey Johnson is available and he is even considering the other guys.
  19. I am not a Jones fan or supporter but, He is probably better than Pagan over the long haul. He is probably better than he has played. The only realistic player in our system he is blocking is Murton. I would rather have Murton play AAA than sit on the bench here. So giving him away and paying a majority of his contract isnt that great of a move. I think in our great desire to rid ourselves of him we are willing to make a bad move. Being the 5th outfielder for now is fine. Maybe someone later will be willing to take more of his salary.
  20. There are like 50 people waiting in Transactions for the word Rumor to come down. Maybe we ought to just finish up the NSBB tournament while we wait.
  21. Brilliant knee-jerk reaction. He's been great the last 3 years. He was dominant in his last 12 outings and all of June: 14 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 14 K, .71 WHIP, .64 ERA. He had one bad night pitching on his 3rd consecutive day. He also didn't have very much time between being told to get up and start warming to when he was brought in the game. I seem to remember Sammy having a few multi-HR games against the Rockies (hit 3 at least twice against them, I believe), and I think the last time the Cubs scored a run in every inning was in Coors Field as well. Didnt the Rockies score 1 run in every inning in wrigley once also.
  22. Does Penn St play Wisconsin? If so where? I like Penn St this year. I see the Big Ten coming down to Michigan, PSU and Wisconsin. I think Wisconsin will win in the end.
  23. I think the success of the Cardinals last year has created a hope for a long shot. Even if the Cubs were to win the division, they still are only the 5th or 6th best team in the National League. Then if you go and start comparing them to the Tigers and Red Sox, yikes. Realistically the Cubs at best are probably not a Top Ten team in all of baseball. The reason I bring this up is I think the Cubs ought to be careful on what they give up to acquire a Griffey Jr or Bullpen help. How far up the ladder would these kind of moves make them. Yes I know the Cards won last year with a 83 win team. Teams winning the WS with less than 90 wins is so rare that I think this is a poor approach to building a team.
  24. At least John L. is gone. Yes!!!!!!!!! I think this is why we wont shoot ourselves as much as in the past. I have a feeling we are going to surprise this year actually. We arent completely talentless. Dantonio seems to be a good coach. I would be surprised with anything better than 7-5 though.
  25. Since Michigan lost almost there entire defense and I think Michigan/Wisconsin game is in Wiscosin. I think I would take Wisconsin to win the Big Ten. Unless you are taking PSU to win the Big Ten? In which case I still will take Wisconsin.
