  1. Here Barrett, Here Z. Dangit Jones where are you at.
  2. Pedroia has been crushing the ball recently. He's from this area - Woodland which is 10-15 minutes north of Sacramento. The two picks ahead of Grant Johnson were Hunter Pence and Dustin Pedroia. The pick after Johnson was Kurt Suzuki. WTG, Cobs. Pedroia is the type of player I'd love to see the Cubs pick more of - pretty highly regarded college position player with good patience, a somewhat limited ceiling, but also a very attainable ceiling. Lost in the fact that the Red Sox have a ton of money is that they've produced a LOT of big league talent in the past few years. Pedroia, Youkilis, Lester, Murton, Papelbon, Meredith, Bard, Hansen, Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez... it's a solid list. Clay Buchholz is well on his way to Boston too. But, none of those guys you mentioned played at Notre Dame where Hendry's buddy coaches. Or none played for Hendry's old high school. Think of the talent we could have if we didn't have the worst gm ever in charge of our team. The Cubs player development system would have probably screwed them up though. Hey kid why are you taking pitches?
  3. Anahiem Ducks the new Broad Street Bullies. I cant believe that Pronger only got a 1 game suspension after already being suspended once in the playoffs.
  4. ARod game winner off Paplebon.
  5. you know Ozzie would probably throw in Brian Anderson also.
  6. Wow! I wish you'd been around when we needed people to say how Neifi was great and needed to stay on this team. You'd have helped Hendry lead us to the playoffs last season. Your post has explained to me why we should keep playing worse than average players over a better than average and almost free player. Where in my post did I say anything about wanting Neifi to play, ever? Or are you just using baseless conjecture? If so, I guess it would be fair to assume that if you were running the team we would have never made the Aramis or Lee trades, because giving up Bobby Hill and Choi would be asking too much. We would currently be rockin a lineup with Jason Dubois, Bobby Hill, Hee Seop Choi and Corey Patterson in order to pay Brian Giles and JD Drew superstar contracts. Not to sound like any of these guys are great but I would rather have Patterson than Jones. Bobby Hill would have done about as well at 2nd than everyone else the Cubs have had there the last few years. Dubois was a better option than anyone else the Cubs had at the time. Choi was never the same after his collision with Wood. Also I think most around here were ok with the Choi for Lee trade and the Hill for ARam trade.
  7. I was making a 3 hr drive the other night and MVP had the NBA game on so I listened to about a half hour of Sox postgame. Though the voice wasnt as annoying as Hawk that Chris Ronge is just as much of a whinning homer. Listening though I did find out that most White Sox fans think that trading CLee for Pods was a good trade because Pods was better than CLee. I could see that saying the trade was good because the got a LFer who had a career year and saved enough money to sign a starter who had a career year(Contraras) which led to them winning the WS. Pods has not and never will be as good as CLee though and the trade was pretty lopsided.
  8. Agreed. A lot of those other guys were miscast by bad management. Most being role players who were made regulars. Todd Hundley got a boatload of money and just plain stunk!!!!!!!!!
  9. Agreed. I'm all for trading Murton as part of a package to get something better, but just trading him for a bullpen are is not smart. I would be for trading Murton for a under 30 OF with a career OPS of .850 or higher who can hit LHers. Who is also not arbitration eligible for 2 more years. If not the Cubs would be complete morons for trading Murton.
  10. He has managed the team with the 2nd most loses in a season. Managing the Cubs should be a treat.
  11. I have been a big supporter of Murton. I just want to ask those who want him benched, who is a better option for the future of this team? There will be no money to add a quality FA. If Floyd and Jones are the future we are in deep crap. The Cubs are not going to make the World Series this year. Pie is the only viable option we have in the system for a couple of years. Soriano is the only other OF with a longterm future. If Pagan is the answer to my question then the Cubs future is not bright. Worse of all its not like any other Cub outfielder is running circles around Murton. Soriano has been ok offensively and terrible defensively and on the bases. Pagan has proven in the past that he can have a good week but then reality will set in, he wasnt even hitting in Iowa. Jones should never see the field against LHers and hasnt even hit RHers that good. Floyd can hit Rhers but not LHers and will be injured. Pie hasnt been that good yet. So why is Murton being singled out. Heck the only 2 players I have mentioned who make less than Murton are Pagan and Pie.
  12. Heck yeah. Maybe Vince McMahon will be there.
  13. I actually like this lineup today. I would rather move Murton to 2nd, The riot leading off and Soriano 5th. I dont mind this lineup though.
  14. I am just glad that there is a Cub writer in town that states what really needs to be done. Its a lot better than start Floyd everyday and have Marquis DH at AL games. My one criticism that I think Murton should just start everyday and see if he develops power with us. We all know what Floyd is going to do. I fear that Murton will be a very solid .850 OPS guys for someone else while we sign Darin Erstad next season.
  15. How is it unexpected? Sorry I just posted what I saw on Yahoo Murton starting and Barrett catching is what I didnt expect.
  16. Unexpected lineup. I thought it would already be posted but I guess not. Soriano Theriot Lee ARam Murton Barrett Jones DeRossa Z
  17. Isnt the rule also if Marquis starts the game as a pitcher and hits, doesnt ever pitcher have to hit then. If this is the case it would really be ill-advised to have him hit while pitching. Not to mention he isnt the best hitting option the Cubs have on the bench. Sullivan also clearly hasnt looked at Floyds stats against LHers or Murtons in the 2nd half(small sample size I know). Starting Floyd against LHers is almost as bad as starting Jones against LHers.
  18. I would trade Marquis as soon as he is eligible to be traded. His trade value will never be higher.
  19. Funny how they called him one of the bright spots. If hitting .260 something with an OBP in the .320s a bright spot, boy the White Sox offense is bad.
  20. Something missing in this debate is the fact that Floyd has not hit LHers very well at all the last couple of years. If Murton is really a RBI liability why doesnt he bat 2nd then? Why was that so quickly abandoned?
  21. This is a terrible argument. Why does the "earn the job" mantra only apply to Murton? He and Floyd have similar production this year, and Murton is younger, faster, healthier, cheaper, has more of a long term future, is a better defender, outproduced Floyd by a significant margin last year, and is probably better at video games too. All this is, is the all to familiar "default to the veteran", it's nonsense. Why gamble on being better when we can guarantee mediocrity with a Veteran? Mediocre might win the Cubs this division or the Wild Card and keep the masses happy for a couple of more years.
  22. Cubs and their PR machine find it easier to make this claim than OBP. Fixing the OBP thing would mean a change in how the Cubs are run. Fixing the RISP is just waiting for it to get better.
  23. Phew, good thing the Cubs are getting Murton and his 8 RBI out of the lineup. Because RBI is a stat that only considers what the individual player has done. I don't know if benching Murton is the answer, but this is not good. 04/02 - 05/30 BDI LOB RBI% Murton 7 36 0.163 This is why the Cubs traded Rafeal Palmeiro. Didnt drive in runs.
  24. Yankees and the Red Sox are the same in my book. Go Tigers, Twins and Indians.
