  1. How about Jerome Walton from the 89 team for CF and get another relief pitcher? edit: Okay I looked at the numbers and see why. For some reason I thought he hit like .320 that year. His OBP wasnt even that good.
  2. 3 good sports franchises, several quality musical artists. Produce a good share of US born hockey players.
  3. Why do the King fans hate the Red Wings so much. Is it the Marcel Dionne thing. Wait that is why the Wings should hate the Kings. The Wings are also the team that produced your guy Avery i don't really know. i just know that myself and a few other kings fans that i talk to online (not living in a place where there are major professional sports) sucks. I mean, they had Luc, they gave us Avery, we beat them in the playoffs in our most recent series win. Arbitrary hate I guess. We didnt give you Avery, we got Schnieder in return. We gave you Marcel Dionne
  4. Pie had best not be starting against a lefty, much less one who's good enough to reach the majors. Pie can't even handle minor league lefties. why is he here than? Jock cant hit lefties, if Pie isnt going to start against lefties there is no reason to have Pie here to be a defensive sub and pinch runner.

  6. I think the NHL has to be pretty happy about the Conference finals. The 4 best teams remain. Should be really good hockey. Predictions for this round. Ottawa over Buffalo in 6 Wings over Ducks in 6
  7. I think their nickname for Pierre is a little more blunt than 43
  8. I think you would have to have your head in the sand to think that Papi was innocent.
  9. At this point I dont think Lou and Jim see Murton as anything but a bench player. Yesterday starting DeRossa in RF pretty much proved what I had been suspecting for several weeks. If that is the case than I really dont see them trading Jones or Floyd. One start for DeRosa in the outfield in the last couple of weeks proves what exactly? Way too much is being made of that lineup maneuver, IMHO. Truth is Murton is behind Jones, Floyd, DeRossa, Pie, Theriot and Izturis in Lous pecking order. It doesnt take a genius to look at the stat sheet to see that. It has been more than one start in Right for DeRossa for me to make that claim. The fact that both Floyd and Ward were brought in the offseason shows that Hendry doesnt think of him as a starter.

  11. I like the part where his brother wouldnt let him throw curveballs until he was 17. Nothing ruins a arm like too many breaking balls while still in HS.
  12. Definitely a great weekend for Philly hockey fans. I like a Buffalo/Ottawa final, and Detroit/Anaheim could be pretty sweet out west. As a Blackhawks fan I shouldn't want Detroit to advance, but with the organization slipping so far from relevency, it's kind of pointless to hold a grudge against the supposed rival Red Wings. I'm all about pulling for hockey in general, and I think the Wings are more interesting, and better for the NHL, than an all California Suburbs Western Conference Final. As a Wings fan I am very disappointed that Chicago has become irrelevant. Especially now that Colorado and St Louis have also fallen off. Nashville is just not that great of a rival. The Ottawa/Buffalo series should be awesome. 2 best teams our East. They dont like each other. Both play up and down the ice a lot, though Ottawa has tightened it up the last couple of years.
  13. wha? He is proven. Proven he is outmatched by major league pitching so far.
  14. Great 3rd period today. I think Ottawa is going to beat Buffalo
  15. I can't recall off the top of my head... were you one of the people gloating about Prior and Wood? Cause that might have a direct bearing on how I respond to you on this subject. Does anyone ever read what he writes, or do they just stare at his avatar? This is becoming very apparent. My posts are over HERE guys. Forget it. Just keep staring. I seen the same avatar at a San Jose Sharks forum, except you can see the 3rd girl
  16. Couldn't help but notice all the empty seats in DET. That can't be good news for the NHL. 2nd round playoffs and only maybe 70% seats full in a charter city? Ouch. Sadly "the Joe" has a lot of seats sold to corporate interests. These tickets have always been a little thin on Sat day games. Also the concession lines at the Joe are brutal. Truthfully though I think there is a little Atlanta Braves syndrome in Wings fans. i think it's more that the tickets are way overpriced and detroit currently has a crappy economy. or that's what wings fans tell me. I went back and looked around at about the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period and there wasnt hardly any empty seats. I think it was more like 95%. With a 3 goal lead at the time that would explain some of the empties. Also all of there games are sold out. Have been since the early 90s. So that kind or negates the overpriced ticket crappy economy arguement

  18. The made for regular season coasting Wings go up 3-2 over a clearly more talented gritty playoff ready San Jose team.
  19. There is nothing wrong with saying that Ramirez could use protection behind him. It's not really that Aramis needs a good hitter behind him to see better pitches, it's more that you don't want pitchers to pitch around Aramis completely. Bonds got walked alot because the hitter that typically hit directly behind Bonds wasn't nearly the threat that Bonds was. That's where protection comes into play. Another example would be if the Cubs had Lee hitting 3rd and Izturis hitting 4th. No pitcher is going to give Lee good pitches to hit (and would probably prefer just walking him) when Izturis is due up next. Soriano had a career high in walks and IBB's last year because Soriano was the only REAL threat in the Nats line up. Truth being told though a team is probably better just pitching to Bonds than walking him all the time. If the end result is that players walk more than that is probably better than them going 1 out of 3 hitting.
  20. In both cases the better team won the game though.
  21. Also similar to clutch hitting, protection is a myth just because they cannot be quantified doesn't mean they do not exist. They do, In a lot of baseball peoples false perceptions. Which like I wrote is myth. mg is right. Just because we can't measure it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Like Bill James said, we might just be underestimating the density of the fog; the noise often swamps the signal. All we can say for sure is that protection might genuinely exist in isolated instances; ultimately it's a matter of opinion. You are right. To say though that protection is some sort of key to successful baseball though is what is wrong. All studies have shown that it is very isolated. A better agruement for this case may be to see if ARam bats significantly better with better hitters behind him.
  22. He also had some cool looking shades on last night while losing the ball in the cloudy early evening sky. Harrelson and Jackson couldnt make up enough excuses for him. I wonder if it was Anderson they would have tried as hard.
