  1. I don't like the guy, but he just took a pitch four inches off the plate and it was called a strike. the pitcher threw it there again. you have a choice, 0-2, or try to slap it by the thirdbasemen. it's easy to fault the Cubs for their offensive woes so far this year, but just look at that inning. the ump cost them one baserunner in Jacque's walk, a lined scorcher that will go down in the books as 0-1, and an ump taking away any chance a slapper like Izturis has to get on base. such is the life of a Cubs fan. I hope our season isnt based on how the umps call a strike zone
  2. Wow his insistence of keeping Jones and Floyd way apart points out a problem with our team. Jones and Floyd are similar hitters with the same weaknesses. Wonder why no Murton after his solid night last night. Seems to be something he could build on. I dont have a problem with Pie sitting though. He needs to sit some.
  3. He hasn't escaped suspicion at all, there have been plenty of questions about him. The funny thing about Clemens is he is kind of a jerk also. He holds his team hostage the last couple of years with is he going to play or not? If he is going to play who for? If Bonds or Sosa was doing this kind of stuff could you imagine the disdain they would be getting from fans and ESPN. Somehow with Clemens its ok. As for White Sox fans hating Sosa, they are just bitter baseball fans for some reason. Even in winning the WS they still have serious North Side envy. Sosa was the face of North Side baseball for over ten years. Couple that with steriod suspicion and cork bat usage they feel justified in their disdain. Somehow they overlook the fact that their DH and RF probably have just as much evidence for steriod use as Sammy.
  4. MLB isn't the NBA. They monitor this kind of stuff quite abit.
  5. Boy I am going to have to get me some White Sox gear.
  6. Being tough in Hockey isn't sucker punching guys in a scrum. Being tough is winning the battles in the corners, not letting the other team control in front of your net and finishing checks.
  7. Isn't that pretty much guaranteeing a fine or suspension? Should a major league manager be carrying out vendettas for his fanbase and openly saying he's going to instigate something with another team because a guy hit a home run and hopped? Sammy rubbed it in pretty good and it was a meaningless homer. I would think it was pretty lame if a similar thing happened to the Cubs. See, I didn't see it happen, and I haven't seen a clip. Did he just hop more than usual, or did he walk down the baseline or something? He hopped and then kind extended his arms like he was an airplane as he ran to first base. It wasn't that big of a deal but I can understand why it would upset the White Sox. Eh. That's pretty weak. Sounds like he got excited that he belted a 3 run home run after the fans were all over him. If he didn't do anything to show up the other team, there's not much justification for post game rantings. He took alot of crap from the Sox fans...why? What do they have against Sammy? Seriously. It doesn't make sense. I think it is part of their Cub obsession.
  8. What are they crying about? My AM radio reception has been awful for the last couple of days so I havent been listening to the 2 Chicago Sports stations. If its steriods, are they willing to cry about their DH.
  9. Well, they have played 13 games so I'm not entirely sure... I think the offense will be fine and the "questionable" pitching has been solid, overall, thus far. To answer your question, I believe the Cubs longest winning streak last year was 4 games so it was at least 2 seasons ago... I keep hearing the Offense will be fine. It will come around. This is exactly what was said in 2004 and 2005. Are we sure that it will be any better than a middle of the league offense that it is now.
  10. Calgary had some jump last night. They scored their last 2 goals because of mistakes by Lidstrom though. I wouldnt be banking my playoff hopes on that.
  11. For those of you who are getting upset by the murton/floyd debate I want to point out that I left 5 pages ago after some complaining.
  12. Didnt about 10 pages ago someone mention that the Cubs hadnt Ked today.
  13. Does anyone have a internet box score that hasnt crashed yet. Espn and Yahoo have both crapped out on me.
  14. He did this some last year also. Especially in early June. Then Bynum got hurt and Murton became the everyday LFer again and was fine the rest of the year.
  15. No they weren't. Their pitching was bad. Worse than St. Louis for sure. You do know that the best team doesn't always win the World Series, right? No but very rarely does a team that isnt one of the 5 best not win it.
  16. So, basically, if we aren't the runaway best team we should just wrap it up and play kids? Playing Murton is not wrapping it up. He's as good as Floyd and Jones, at least, and should get better. None of the Cubs OF is an ideal OF, they need all of them to produce if they hope to succeed. I would say if we are CLEARLY not a top ten team then I would say there is no reason to play a past prime player over a player who is major league ready. Did you think the Cardinals were a top ten team in your head, say, August 1st of 06? No, but back to my point of how many times does a inferior team win a WS? Maybe 2 other times in my lifetime. If you throw in the 69 Mets that would be 3 other times in my 40+ years. I would rather take my chances with a young player who has shown plenty of ability to improve than a chance that this team will win the WS. I would even go as far as saying that playing Floyd over Murton would only mean one or two wins anyway. this isn't exactly about the 'game.' it's taking up a lot of space here... Ok I am done

  19. Better bench Murton forever, then! Stop being dramatic. I'm just saying, through what I've seen of the season, Floyd's been a better player. And we NEED to win right now, not play Murton for the heck of it. You disagree with either of those statements? There don't seem to be many people who think we can win this year. Everyone is like "Floyd is old, what happens then?" Right now, Floyd is producing, Murton isn't. In this weak division, anyone can win, and as last year showed, all you need to do is make the playoffs and then ANYTHING can happen. Really? How often does a inferior team win the WS. Last one I can think of before last year was 88 Dodgers and than 85 Royals.
  20. Somebody will need to pitch April 22 if there are no rainouts. The next off day is not until 8 games from now. That's what he said-he said the 5th starter wouldn't be needed until May after Sunday (the 22nd). I thought he said May 1st, fogged out on the after sunday thing. I could have worded it better.
  21. whereas Murton has popped pitches in his eyes up to 3rd base over and over, and yet the rallying cry is still to bench Floyd Not the right arguement. If we were WS contenders than it would make sense. Since we are not then it makes no sense to bench Murton.
  22. I finally bit the bullet and paid the extra for versus. I also get ESPNnews with this package. Watched a lot of the SJ/Nashville game last night. I really dont think versus is any worse in there coverage than ESPN or NBC. It just sucks that I have to pay extra to get it.
