  1. I just really hope he hasnt been starting Izturis because he dont want the veterans on the bench grumbling.
  2. I agree with this. I think the solution may be bringing up Fontenot, doing whatever with Izturis and trading Jones.
  3. Brian Anderson? I would do it I wouldn't. Our problem is too many outfielders. Trading one for another would be kind of pointless. We need some infield help off the bench so we can get rid of the black hole that is Iz-deno. Do we have enough outfielders for the future though? Also what middle infielder are we going to get who would be an upgrade over iz-deno.?
  4. I agree but Luongo should be playing goalie and let the refs do the reffing. Was a crappy goal.
  5. White Sox Tigers Angels Mariners Giants I think these 5 teams would all take on Jones salary, if we didnt ask for too much. If we were willing to take on salary, we may even get a solid prospect.
  6. Me too, given how little debate there really is in the scientific community. Frickin liberal scientists :) Funny thing is, I would consider myself far from a Liberal. I have always had issues with groups like Green Peace and such. Yet most everything I have seen about global warming has been very rationale. I think some Conservatives everytime they hear the word environment start thinking "Tree Hugging Liberals" ROFL...I have 2 cubemates at work. One is far left and the other is middle right. They understand their differences, and are each able to take some ribbing from the other. The words "tree hugging liberal" are a frequent jab. I actually used that term to take a jab at an earlier poster who said that Global Warming was just something tree hugging liberals complain about
  7. Looking around the league, I can see at least 5 teams that could use Jones. What they probably dont want is Jone's contract. Has there been anything written recently that would make you think that Hendry is still shopping Jones?
  8. Just like game 2 except reversed. San Jose was kind of lucky to only be down 1. About midway through the 2nd period it seemed like Joe Thorton was on the ice the rest of the game. He is the best player in hockey when he plays like that. San Jose dominated the rest of the game. Detroit was lucky to only give up 2 goals.

  10. I have never seen him play, so I dont know how good his defense really was, but his career line is only slightly better the Royce Clayton's. How is he not in the HOF???? The Big Red Machine was my favorite none Cubs team in the 70s. I still have a place for them in my heart. Dave Concepcion would get absolutely no HoF consideration if he played for the Cubs during the same period. Playing on championship clubs gives you some extra consideration. Dave Concepcion was a above average SS in the 70s.
  11. OK I really understand that Piniella and Dusty are not the same manager and have several differences. That quote sounds like it came straight from Dusty's mouth without the "dude"
  12. So I have watched both of the first 2 games of the Western Conference playoffs. It is very clear that Anehiem and San Jose are the 2 most talented teams. If either team was to be traded with the Wings during the Reg season they would easily have been the #1 seed. That being said contrary to some earlier posts, it is these 2 teams that dont have a lot of grit or passion. San Jose really came out with some early in both games but than just coasted on talent. This very similar to what I seen last year in their loss to Edmonton. Anehiem played game 2 like they were on cruise contol. If they didnt have home ice advantage this wouldnt have been as big of a deal. They let Vancouver steal one on the road and also the momentum.
  13. The problem with sending Murton down is that either Jones or Floyd or both would have to start against a LH pitcher. As been noted on another thread the Cubs should be seeing quite a few LHers this month. Cedeno and Izturis are compatable as is Floyd and Ward. A player from this group probably needs to be removed from team.
  14. I reviewed it a few times myself, and after a few tries at it finally managed to pause it at the correct moment. He was out, but only by the tiniest sliver of margins-his foot touched the edge of the bag a fraction of a second after the ball went into the glove. It was a close enough play that I couldn't have been upset at the umpire if it had gone the other way, but from the look I got when it was paused and in the slow motion replays that I did I think the umpire got it right. I thought he looked safe in regular speed. Couldnt make up my mind when I went back and watched on DVR. Is it me or does the new Busch Stadium just have crappy camera angles. Do they make WGN set up their own cameras or do they borrow the feed from whoever does the Cardinals games.
  15. Cant have enough proven veterans
  16. When do we next face a left-handed starter? Until Floyd gets hurt I expect Murt's back will serendipitously unstiffen whenever the Cubs are due to face a LHP, then just as quickly restiffen when a RHP is next. Isnt there a medical condition that exists from lack of muscle use? atrophy? Matt Murton has got atrophy in his back from sitting on the bench

  18. Sharks just really make it hard if they get the lead. They made a great play on the pp, got kind of a lucky goal for the second and then made every pass or shot the Wings took very difficult. I thought the game was mostly even except for special teams. Wing have to improve in this area or they will lose the series.
  19. As much as I dont like Curt Schilling, I hope this isnt true. It makes no sense for Gary Thorne to say this if it wasnt true though.
  20. Hahahaha I'm a better OF than Rob Macowiak and I have an astigmatism. I saw that Anderson is DHing yeserday. I thought he was primarily a glove man at this point? Brutal. I've heard he's the best defensive CF in baseball. It is certainly disputable. Perhaps I gave him too much credit, but IMO, he's at least top 3-5 I think he is pretty good also. Clearly better than the 3 they had out there last night. Which is another thing I keep hearing about Erstad. How good his defense is. Like they had a defensive problem in CF last year. They did when Macowiak was out there but not when Anderson was. I just dont understand why the White Sox even have Anderson on the team. Ozzie hates him. He is not going to get better in the situation he is in. They should send him down or trade him. I would take him for Jacque Jones. We could probably get a arm in the deal also.
  21. I was looking at the Detroit Tigers last night thinking they sure could use a LHed bat in the outfield. Also since the White Sox seem to refuse to play Anderson and Podsednik is hurt. May they be interested in a Jacque Jones?
  22. I'm not going to read all 19 pages, again. But I'm not sure a less true statement has been made in this thread. And that's saying something. I would have said the same thing if Murton had gone 4-5. The point is, this team is having trouble scoring runs and right now, Floyd is producing more. Here's something we can all agree on - it's probably only a matter of time till Floyd gets hurt anyway... Yeah but Murton is 4 for 8 in his last 2 starts. Hitting something like .350 overall when he starts. So to use your arguement Murton should be starting then. Floyd had really not done well for at least a week until yesterday. The Cubs also won Murtons last 2 starts. Which until yesterday I can't remember the last game the Cubs won that Floyd started.
