    What were the others? Memphis (RPI: 28) on a neutral court, Minnesota (38), Northwestern (25), Wisconsin (46), and now Michigan State (6). Also since they were talked about above, the great Iowa State (51). RPI is stupid but the selection committee thinks its important. No they really don't. Everything they get is based on RPI, like record vs top 50, record vs top 100, bad losses, it's all based off a team's RPI. The committee uses it a lot more than they should, since it's the only statistical basis they actually use aside from road/neutral record.

    Not sure how losing Victor Martinez is going to make the Tigers more desperate for Garza. I think he'd make a lousy DH.

    That's not really a good comp. The A-10 is typically a much stronger league than any of these other conferences like the Colonial or the Horizon. When you typically get 3-4 teams in every year, the conference/team gets a lot more clout when they run through it like St. Joe's did that year. The A-10, Colonial, and Horizon are each much better conferences than the Ohio Valley. Murray State is the only team in the Ohio Valley that's in the top 200 of the RPI (Tennessee Tech is #180 KenPom). Any loss for Murray State from here on out, aside from the Bracket Busters game, will be a bad loss.

    sarcasm? Are they even a tourny team? RPI 51, only top 100 win was at home against Texas (next best was #103 Iowa). Losses to Drake, Michigan, Northern Iowa, Missouri, Kansas. Plenty of time to build a tournament resume in a solid league, but they're certainly not there yet.

    I'd agree more if that were their only result. Recently they haven't been playing very well, so they're apt to trip up once in conference, but if they do get through the conference slate undefeated, win the conference tourney, and beat St. Mary's/Wichita State in the Bracket Busters game, I could see them getting a 4 seed.

    They're certainly not top 10 good. I hope they finish undefeated to see how high they climb in the polls, and to see what the committee does with them. They're currently sitting at an RPI of 28, which I have trouble seeing go much higher. I'd probably give them a 5-6 seed if they went undefeated, and an 8-9 if they went in with a loss. That 1996 Princeton team that came into the tournament 25-1 got a 5 seed. The 2006 GW team that came into the tournament 26-1 got an 8 seed. The Ohio Valley is terrible, so Murray State's best win of the year is likely either the Memphis game or whoever they play in the Bracket Busters matchup. Could end up undefeated without playing a single tournament team on the year. Following up with this, at this point it looks like Murray State's opponent in the Bracket Busters game will be either St. Mary's or Wichita State (Murray State is one of the home teams, and St. Mary's/Wichita State are by far the best road teams in the list, since Gonzaga/BYU/Belmont/Harvard aren't participating and VCU/Creighton/Butler/Cleveland State/Milwaukee are also home teams). I'm not sure a home win against one of those two is any better than a road win at Memphis, certainly not the kind of thing that's going to bump them up to a top 4 seed if they weren't considered there earlier.

    Yeah, even if Boston is bad, there are at least 4 terrible teams in the East (WAS/NJ/CHA/DET), and the only other "competition" for a playoff spot is Toronto (who is probably at least decent offensively when Bargnani is healthy), Milwaukee (who is decent defensively and a black hole offensively), and Cleveland (how far can Irving take them?). Unless one of those three teams really overachieves all year or Boston really goes into the tank, they'd probably still make the playoffs at, say, 30-36.

    Along with Minnesota winning at Indiana, Northwestern beating MSU, Iowa winning at Wisconsin/Minnesota, and PSU beating Purdue, it's getting to the point where any win in conference is a good win. Except at home vs. PSU/Nebraska. Those are expected.
