  1. Haha, Brandon Paul's line tonight: 11-15 FG, 8-10 3PT, 13-15 FT, 2 assists, 7 TOs. Why pass?
  2. MSU. Illinois second. Aside from a horrid 20 minute stretch at Purdue, Illinois has actually played well in conference so far.
  3. I just hope Paul didn't use up all his shot luck tonight.
  4. Oh, they'll rush the floor. Just win, though! 11 seconds! This is unreal.
  5. I hate that their best ball handlers are their worst shooters. Except for tonight, apparently.
  6. Brandon Paul!
  7. Illinois with a near perfect offensive half and still trailing by 5.
  8. When they started the offseason they had a 3 man rotation. Now they have a 6 man rotation. They also have enough backup outfielders to qualify as having a 7th outfielder. Oddly, the bullpen is far more shallow, since what used to be Marmol-Marshall-Cashner-Wood-Samardzija-Russell now looks to be Marmol-Samardzija-Russell-...
  9. It'll be nice to directly compare him to a bad GM.
  10. it's not really that big a deal. all they have to say is that they're willing to listen to offers on everybody, but unless they get a deal they really like, they're not dealing away good players. Yeah, the Cubs being a big market team, they have no need to trade Garza. They're making an attempt to take advantage of a relative down year for available starting pitching. If no team bites on the demands, you still have Matt Garza for 2 years and can certainly focus on re-signing him long term.
  11. All the computers have the Big 12 better, and at least one computer says the Big 12 had the best year of any conference in the past 13 years. well sec west at least the voters had to put lsu and alabama in the title game, just look how strong the sec west is. lsu and alabama, the two best teams in the country, are in it! Implying I'm using circular logic? I'm saying the SEC West is strong because 3 of the top 5 teams in the country are in it, including the top two teams who have dominated the competition outside of each other. It's circular logic because it only had 3 of the top 5 teams because people voted them that way. It's the textbook definition of circular logic.
  12. UCLA wins the "nobody has any idea" award, 42nd in Moore's ratings, and 292nd in Elo Basketball.
  13. Just for kicks, here's a comparison of every single known computer rating for NCAA basketball teams. Wisconsin averages out to 27th. 2nd in Pomeroy, 63rd in RPI.
  14. Uniquely strong? Uniquely strong, not a single computer rating had them at the top:http://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm The only reason the SEC was given the top two spots in the BCS was because of the voters. So the voters recognized how strong the SEC voting was this year by voting the SEC strong.
  15. It continues. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9953/extremetheo.png
  16. All this game tells me is that another conference should have had a shot at the national championship.
  17. So, that was some fourth quarter.
  18. And...nobody else. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7443141/ex-reds-great-larkin-elected-hall-fame
  19. Also notable: San Diego is where lefty power hitters (like Adrian Gonzalez...or Anthony Rizzo) go to die.
  20. If they do sign Maholm, I'm not sure who else gets moved off the 40 man, or who gets bumped from the rotation among Wells/Volstad... ...or a Garza trade is imminent and won't return any major leaguers.
  21. I understand soccer10k rooting against the Broncos because he's a Raiders fan and hates the Broncos. Everything else, though, just seems like sour grapes because of a media narrative.
  22. Whose/What point are you responding to? He's not. A thought comes into his head, and he has to immediately post it. No context, no research, no thought about whether it's worth posting. Idea to post in ten seconds. That is the WSR way.
  23. http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/on_wisconsin_the_faq/ he sure is defensive Yeah, Pomeroy is a bit of a tool about some things. I had to stop following him on twitter last year because the smug was too much to bear. Pomeroy's not so bad. Jerry Palm (the CollegeRPI guy) is a complete tool, though.
  24. http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/on_wisconsin_the_faq/ he sure is defensive I understand the point he's trying to make, though, that the system is in itself intended to be as accurately predictive as possible for all 345 teams. He'd rather the thing be accurate for 344 and off on 1 than be right on the 1 but more inaccurate for the remaining 344. He understands that it's not right, but his system doesn't incorporate wins and losses into the equation, only relative offensive and defensive efficiency, and Wisconsin, for better or worse, was ungodly efficient in the non-conference slate.
