Yeah, technically the Red Sox have to send the Cubs a PTBNL because the transaction has to be a player trade. You can't just send a player somewhere for nothing.

I see. So when is the cut off for "it's recent enough to be relevant"? I'm going to guess right around the time Illinois went to the National Championship game? Anything before that doesn't matter, right? How long do you get to hang your hat on that exactly? This post is just embarrassing. I was told "almost every big ten team has been more successful [than Purdue]". I responded by stating that they have the most Big Ten Championships and a winning record against every Big Ten School. Than I'm told (paraphrasing) "that doesn't count". I'm just trying to get the rules right here. So you tell me, has almost every Big Ten team been more successful than Purdue? That has nothing to do with why your post was embarrassing...which makes this one even more embarrassing. And yes, in the NCAA Tournament era, which is plenty long enough now, almost every Big Ten team has been more successful than Purdue. Purdue easily clears Penn State, Nebraska and Northwestern, though, so keep that chin up!

Thanks for '05 buddy. Don't you mean Bill Self? He did a hell of a job with that team. Regardless of who recruited them. I mean, really, the closest any team has been to undefeated since UNLV 1991. A desperation 3 and a missing center for the champ game away.

no, his roster legitimately sucks ass. he basically has no good young exempt players, josh hamilton is his best offensive player and tim hudson his best pitcher. his prospects aren't very good either. i wasn't thrilled with my roster last year, but i was able to acquire halliday before the draft, had starlin castro, gaby sanchez, austin jackson and jaime garcia as exempt players, and had very good prospects like mike trout and julio teheran. When I took over my roster 3 years ago, the team was totally bereft of talent aside from Dan Haren (best player after that was probably Brian Roberts), and had nobody in the minors. I traded down in the first round for Jason Bay (fresh to the Red Sox), drafted prospects well and turned them into good players, and took advantage of some waiver values to win the league. The next year, my team got riddled with injuries which I initially tried to fix (thus trading Miller for Cabrera), but eventually just bailed and loaded up on exempt players and prospects. A team lacking in superstars can generally find some good ones in exchange for exempt players and/or prospects, and a team without prospects only needs one good prospect draft to replenish.

i have no idea where the one on the eyes of texas' roster came from. from what i can tell, he was added by bazingas on 03/27/10, traded to my team (when i wasn't the owner) on 04/02/10, traded to NC Cubs on 05/30/10 for kendrys morales, traded to tim's team for josh hamilton on 10/17/10, then traded to my team last year in the halladay deal. there's no record in the transactions log of shelby miller or the eyes of texas. I drafted him in the prospect draft in 2010, traded him to NC Cubs with Morales (who had just broken his leg on a game winning HR) for Miguel Cabrera, who traded him to Tim's team for Josh Hamilton. There was a fake one floating around, but I know I ended up with the real one by the start of the 2010 season.
