  1. Lackey has gotten Harper out twice. I'm going to call that a win.
  2. Like I said in yesterday's game thread, people are practically begging for things to complain about right now.
  3. Yeah with the Cubs scuffling like they are now there's just no way to be patient with a guy like Soler, who has a 12% walk rate and a ridiculous low babip. That's a fair point, but my whole post was based on the fact that he's lost his PT over the last week or so. If he's not getting ABs here I'd like him to get some development in Iowa. It's not like he will force himself into the ends of games because of his defense. So if Joe isn't starting him, he's in a tough spot to see the field more than 1-2 times a week. Thing is, this was always the plan this year. A healthy Schwarber and Baez for the full year were going to limit the ABs for Soler, and La Stella hitting well early has a similar effect. I expect almost everyone on the team to get around 500 PA this season.

  5. With last night's win, the Cubs improved to 5-4 in games decided by 3 runs or fewer.
  6. Trading for Ryan Braun actually make a whole lot of sense for the Nats: http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2016/5/5/11593602/cubs-nationals-standings-series-fight-fight-fight
  7. The most entertaining part of last night's Giants result was Grant Brisbee's twitter feed: [tweet] [/tweet]...3 minutes later, game is still in top of 5th... [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]
  8. Between June 12, 1906 and June 26, 1907, the Cubs had a 162 game stretch where they went 127-32. Uh that's 3 games short.... No, it isn't. There were ties back in the day that didn't count towards the standings.
  9. 13 runs in the 5th for the Rockies.
  10. Between June 12, 1906 and June 26, 1907, the Cubs had a 162 game stretch where they went 127-32.
  11. So many people just begging for something to complain about.
  12. Best 26-game starts in the post-1900 era: http://i.imgur.com/lDBcRN8.png
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] So over 26 games, the Cubs have allowed 66 runs, for an average of 2.54 runs per game. Keep in mind, they gave up 13 in 1 game. In the other 25, they are averaging allowing 2.12 runs per game. ...on the flip side, they're on pace to score 990 runs, which would only be the 10th most since 1913 (the top 9 is mostly the 1930s Yankees).
  14. I eagerly await the thread freak out when Lester struggles in the first inning.
  15. Today's game win probability chart, courtesy of Bucs Dugout:
  16. Reds bullpen just allowed a run for the 21st straight game, a new MLB record.
  17. Which is funny because he has no idea how to slide. Did you already forget his game winning slide last week?
  18. Cole finishes his outing after 4.2 IP and 105 pitches. Responsible for 3 runs and the loaded bases here.
  19. wait til we get past his 2015 july Ought to be able to at least match Buxton by then.
  20. This is now the Sunday game thread, since the tears of yesterday's whining washed out today.
  21. If the Cubs can just maintain this pace for the rest of the year, they will break the winning percentage record of the 1906 Cubs and finish with 125 wins.
  22. Didn't Detroit start 35-5 one year? I don't see them on the list. Their run differential at this point was only 65, so they didn't make the top 5.
  23. Best 22-game starts in modern baseball history: http://i.imgur.com/cy0Kb7R.png
  24. People are getting so starved for things to complain about they decided to be miserable for the majority of a 6-1 game. Ski and Rondon Fan were falling over themselves to try to be the first to declare the ballgame over, but it was not to be. What we got instead was 7 innings of 1-run baseball pitched by Lester and the offense scoring 6 of 12 base runners over 8 innings. Next up we turn to NSBs favorite whipping boy, John Lackey, hoping that he can hold a historically bad offense at bay until a historically good offense gets going.
