  1. Ok at this point 6-4 over this 10-gane stretch against bad teams would be disappointing.
  2. You guys are more miserable than the weather.
  3. I think their terribleness has been highly overstated. The Phillies have not actually been good (the past 3 days were ok). Statistically, they have been about the same as the Braves, but the Braves have been getting unfortunate Pythagorean luck against a tough schedule, while the Phillies have been getting fortunate Pythagorean luck against an easy schedule.
  4. Those back to back #1 drafts of starting pitchers means help should be on the way soon.
  5. Also, that 17-4 Cubs team wasn't even in first place in the NL at 17-4. The Giants were 18-3.
  6. PFF liked the Floyd pick, did not like the Lions' pick. PFF must be good, then.
  7. In fairness to the Braves, thus far their schedule has included games against the Nats, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cardinals. On the other hand, they've gone 1-17 in those games so far.
  8. The Braves have hit 4 HRs this year. The Cubs have hit 4 HRs this week in 3 games. They also hit 5 HRs last Thursday.
  9. The Braves offense is currently hitting .227/.297/.282/.579 as a team. That line is worse than the following offensive players on the Cubs: Tommy La Stella Dexter Fowler Munenori Kawasaki Anthony Rizzo David Ross Jon Lester Kris Bryant Matt Szczur Javier Baez Ben Zobrist Jake Arrieta Addison Russell Jason Hammel Miguel Montero Jason Heyward Jorge Soler The following Cubs are hitting worse than the Braves as a team: John Lackey Kyle Hendricks Pedro Strop Adam Warren To sum up: The Braves don't hit well. Continue hitting well, and win games.
  10. Hammel isn't needed until Sunday. Wood is probably getting use before that, and could still see action today if Ramirez can't get outs.
  11. Oh right the Cubs are the best defensive team too.
  12. Fans of historically great teams complain about the mop up guy not quite mopping up efficiently enough for a six run game.
  13. This is now the Thursday game thread.
  14. Game postponed. Makeup date TBD.
  15. Why? Because it shows what the Cubs are doing isn't so simple after all.
  16. Right now, if I were to do a power rankings based on team quality, it would both start and end with 7 NL teams. I feel like the Cubs, Nats, Dodgers, Cards, Mets, Pirates and Giants are better than the best AL team (White Sox? by default) I feel like the Braves, Brewers, Reds, Padres, Marlins, Phillies, and Rockies are worse than the worst AL team (Is it really the Astros now? Hell, the Twins are even respectable.)
  17. Only 20 to go to match the 1984 Tigers' start.
  18. Just to keep things interesting, the Cubs played a close game and won for a change. In the absence of power, patience was there, as they waited out Nelson long enough for him to cough up the lead. Tonight, they look to continue the streak for Jake Arrieta, who has now thrown 10 straight innings of no-hit ball. Maybe he can be better this time out than he was last time, when he threw more pitches than people would like for an Arrieta start.
  19. 4 innings, 2 baserunners, 66 pitches.
  20. So it would seem that the Cubs will need to score runs to win this game.
  21. 17 pitch 1-2-3 inning, even when it's easy it's hard.
  22. The Cubs move on from a weekend thrashing of the Reds to a Brewers team that is second to the Reds in runs allowed, without the benefits of already having played the Cubs 7 times. I should hope for more of the same from the Cubs.
