  1. You don't have a spot for Javy or just taking a wait and see approach? I also think they might be holding a spot for Berry as their Dyson. Who do you take off for Javy or Berry? Do you really need a 3rd backup OF, especially with Coghlan also being able to play there? Javy will have to really hit his way on the team, unless Soler doesn't make it back. You probably don't need 7 relievers for a 5 game series with 2 off days(or a 7 game series with 3 off days). You also probably don't need Denorfia and Jackson when there's 4 other OF plus Castro and Baez for RH hitters. Do you honestly think a guy who has gone with 8 or 9 relievers all year, will go with less than 7 when he has 1 less starter to have to keep a spot for?
  2. If the Cubs get 1 on this inning, they're tying the score.

  4. Ugh. Grimm you were one of the good ones.
  5. We get it: You don't like Hendricks. But, he has given us at least 5 innings in 25 of 27 starts this year. He is perfectly fine as a 4th starter. Funny thing is that I don't hate Hendricks, I think if has better command he can be an effective pitcher. I do think a 4th starter on a playoff should do better than averaging 5.2 innings per start though Eh, he's top 70 in baseball in innings per start. That's about 3rd starter caliber.
  6. Wow. What a terrible move to walk Votto and put 2 guys in scoring position.
  7. 9 Soler 8 Fowler 7 Schwarber 6 Russell 5 Bryant 4 Coghlan 3 Rizzo 2 Montero Bench- Castro, Jackson, Denorfia, Ross, LH IF (LaStella or Herrera) Starters- Arrieta, Lester, Hammel, Hendricks Bullpen- Strop, Rondon, Grimm, Wood, Russell and then 2 of Hunter, Rodney, Motte, Ramirez. I'd guess Motte has a spot if healthy.
  8. Broncos traded their swing OT, Clark for a 7th round pick. No reason the Bears shouldn't have been in on that, especially with the Fox/Gase connection. The thing about moving Long to RT, is that then your RG will likely suck. It would be one thing if they went out and got Evan Mathis, who was on the market a few days ago to play RG. But if Long is at RT, you're still looking at Mills, Leno, or someone worse at RG. Isn't that an easier position to play and the likelihood of being a disaster there a whole lot less than at RT? I guess I feel like the fact that Long is looked at as a legitimate option to be good out there and one of those other guys can be decent/league average at RG, you're probably at a net gain overall right? IDK. Is average + average > elite + terrible? Hard to tell.
  9. I had a feeling Austin Jackson would be a Cub this year. I figured that ship had sailed though once the deadline passed and Fowler became a top 5 player in baseball at some point in July. Love him as the 4th OF. I wonder if the leash on Soler will be short when he's back.

  11. I don't know that he's practiced enough to "lose" his job, but yeah they seemed to have no interest in starting him if he was healthy. The most experienced as a Bear in the secondary is Sherrick McManis. If you take into account the fact that he's played maybe 50 plays on D the last 4 years, Kyle Fuller has the most snaps of the DBs in a Bears uniform. This is going to be a very inexperienced defense. Starting FS will either be a rookie or a 2nd year player. DL will be a rookie, 2nd year man, with a couple other 2nd year guys getting a ton of time. ILBs will be a 2nd year man and a guy playing the position for the 1st time.
  12. Paying Jennings to go away? Wow. Figured he was in trouble after his DUI but they didn't exactly go out and emphasize the CB position in free agency or the draft.
  13. Javy Baez has hit in 15 straight games.
  14. Cubs should have more than 2 runs. Not that they've blown a ton of chances, just that Mat Latos was pitching, and he kinda sucks.
  15. Eh, concussion is typically a 1-2 week thing at most unless there's a long history there. Goldman probably wasn't playing much next week anyway. 2 weeks til real games. Ratliff can't play in the 1st 3 anyway, so good time for him to be hurt. Porter's not making the team. First preseason game I've been able to watch. Goldman was really good til he got hurt. I thought Ego and Sutton looked good too. Houston and McPhee got a decent amount of pressure too.
  16. RT is a disaster. DBs are a disaster as well. Can't pass because of no WRs and no blocking. Can't stop pass because of no coverage. Fun season ahead of us.
  17. Maddon is going to try him in late innings isn't he? I'd rather give his innings to Edwards.
  18. 1. Torres 2. McKinney 3. Eloy Jimenez 4. Underwood 5. Contreras 6. Happ 7. P Johnson 8. Almora 9. Edwards 10. Zagunis Cease, Sands, Vogelbach, Tseng, and Candelario are the next 5 and a couple may move up when I take a look again after the season. Yeah, Underwood. Don't try to convince me he's not that good.
  19. 13 straight quality starts for Arrieta. Last non-quality start came June 16th, when he lost to the Indians. That loss made his record 6-5. He's now 16-6. Not that wins matter much, but it's a testament to him pitching deep into games and extremely well.
  20. WTF is going on in Bloomington? Since when do basketball players get busted for anything? Aren't these cops [expletive] fans that want the team to win? This is like the 5th time in the last year an IU player (usually Holt involved) has been busted doing something. Need some transfers from the Tallahassee police in Bloomington, they know how this [expletive] works. Hell, Cris Carter pep talk, anything at this point.
