  1. If Bradley isn't going to play today why not just drop the appeal and serve the friggin 2 games and come back Thursday? Also looks like we should get this in, from 7-10 the % of rain is 50%, 45 %, 55% and 40% so we might get hit with a scattered shower once or twice but it doesn't look like there is really any heavy stuff that will stop the game. Bradley is already starting to wear thin on me. First, the guy gets thrown out in his first plate appearance in Wrigley, gets suspended, and now after missing over half our games, will possibly miss another two on principle. If he really wants us fans to start believing that he is a changed man, then he might want to start acting like one.
  2. How's that for a bit of excitement...had the feeling of the Wild Thing!.....What a great comeback W!
  3. What a train wreck...the Friendly Confines have been anything bit so far this season.
  4. So two out of the last 3 games, our starters have smoked hitters early on and then gotten lit up...you don't see that very often... Now let's get some runs!
  5. I'm starting to think we are better off when the bases aren't loaded...
  6. I'm not watching the game, but you've got to swing the bat on 3-2 with the bases loaded...and I don't like Bradley throwing a fit and getting tossed on the first bad call of the season either... Absolutely inexcusable that Soto, Bradley and Soriano can't even produce one run in that situation...
  7. I just wish they would do something about our road unis...they couldn't be any more dull. Going old school while on the road would liven things up a bit. It's hard to make plain grey look good.
  8. It's funny, my Sox-worshipping father-in-law was trying to say I should be concerned about Harden because he hadn't pitched yet. To which I replied that he should be worried when his team's fourth or fifth starter (at least for the opening month of the season) actually do pitch. Seriously....Harden was 10-2 with a sub-3 ERA...The guy has ace stuff when he's on the mound. Yet the Sox think they are all set with Colon or Contreras at the back end of their rotation???
  9. I don't think I've ever seen a Cubs lineup with less known commodities...
  10. I must be sick...I'm already longing for the pitch-by-pitch commentary....these gaps between updates are killing me...
  11. For those of us who can't listen in...can we get a score update? Is it still 2-1? Thanks
  12. I've never been a fan of our road unis...they really can't get any more boring...I'm actually a fan of the sleeveless jerseys, not every day but maybe once a week....Also wish all teams would bring back a vintage jersey to add into the mix.
  13. We sit just over a week away from pitchers and catchers, and I can't recall a time where there has been more talent still sitting on the sidelines waiting for a contract. I would hope that Hendry could somehow be able to get some budget to buy low on a 5th starter, utility infielder, backup outfielder. So, who is on your wish list? - A starter like Wolf, Looper or Pedro - Hudson or Cabrera - Nomar or Aurilla - Edmonds or Alou - Cruz or Isringhausen At this point, I can't imagine any of these guys breaking the bank. Would they take less money for a chance at winning it all?
  14. Yeah, and all that's gotten us is two playoff appearances in the two years he has been here...that sucks!
  15. I expect a pretty solid bounceback year for Kosuke. He was under considerable pressure last season if you think about it... - Coming in as the savior to the Cubs 100 years of woes, which was only escalated with his strong early showing - Getting used to playing against the best baseball talent in the world who adjusted to his approach early on - Working on a team where he could only speak with one person, who must not have done a very good job since he was let go by the Cubs - Travelling to unfamiliar cities and managing the grind of the season - and finally being away from his family and new-born child Add it all up and it's no surprise that the guy struggled. He's a professional player who I'd expect to turn it around with a .280/.380/15/80 season.
  16. Like Wood and DeRosa? Hendry has done a terrible job this offseason. He's single handily destroying this roster. Boy, I'm sure glad we still have those 6 all-stars on the roster. We could be in trouble otherwise.
  17. Hey I'm not thrilled about selling Hill for next to nothing, but I don't think we should bash Hendry for not seeing this coming with Hill. Who knew the guy would go mental and go from being one of the more promising young left-handers in the game to not being able to get guys out in the low-minors?
  18. MLB Trade Rumors reports that Jon Garland turned down a one-year, $4 million offer. You're telling me the Cubs can't put together a better offer with incentives? He'd be a solid #5 who has pitched 195+ innings the last 4 years. Surely, Hendry has that much money to spend doesn't he? I'd think Garland would like a return to Chicago and chance to show KW and Oz what they are missing.
  19. Of course Sheets is an injury risk, that's why the Cubs could sign him at a discounted rate. I still say it's worth the gamble if it's a one-year deal with significant option based on performance escalators. I'm also not worried about the Cubs draft pick situation since this franchise can't seem to draft a first round stud to save their lives. Get it done Jimbo!
  20. As the days go by, the price tag for Ben Sheets continues to drop. Why not try to buy low on a guy who has loads of NL Central experience and who is an ace pitcher when healthy? Sign him to a lucrative one-year deal with performance options and let him prove himself. Our pitch should be that few teams can provide Sheets with better long-term security than the Cubs can if he has a solid season (not to mention some nice payback options against the Brew Crew).
  21. At the end of the day, Hendry has put together teams that have won 3 division titles (including back-to-back for the first time in 50+ years) and should have made a fourth playoff appearance if not for a rather painful collapse in 2004. He isn't the best GM in the league, but he is far from the worst and has produced the best results long-time Cubs fans have seen for a long, long time.
  22. It may be boring from a hot stove perspective, but when you win 97 games to pace the NL, it's best not to dramatically overhaul your lineup. This team had the talent to win it all last year, they just choked in the playoffs.
  23. I don't profess to be the stats junkie that some on this board are, but it seems like we are placing much more emphasis on a player's defense than on his offensive contribution. The unscientific way I look at it says that Dunn would hit a HR every 4 days for the Cubs, while likely driving in 100+ runs. He also would have an error every 10-15 games---which may or may not lead to a run. Factor in a more limited range in the field, and I still don't think that you come close to having his lack of D outweigh the offense he can provide to the Cubs. Not to mention the protection in the lineup he can provide to guys like D-Lee and Ram. It sounds like we are his first choice and as long as we can get him signed to a reasonable deal (3 years, $36-40M) I'm all for it....get it done Jim!
