  1. What is wrong with these fans? Did someone forget to tell them this isn't the 7th game of the World Series. It's seriously making me angry...
  2. Assuming we bring back both Wood and Prior, then we have enough gambles on the staff already and I'd prefer not to mess around with Miller.
  3. I honestly don't see any problem with this. Sure the team may be losing, but the season is lost and the guys have to be able to have a little bit of fun.
  4. i still like marshall & mateo in the rotation perhaps as soon as next year. they have guys like pignatello, rapada, marmol & harben for the pen. who knows what will happen to guzman. he sure has looked brutal this year. Marshall and Mateo are both #5 starters at best. If both of them are in the rotation next year, there will be some serious problems.
  5. He has earned himself a very big payday and I would take him over Pierre in CF anyday, unfortunately the Cubs probably won't see it the same way...
  6. I worked for a company that kept free beer & wine in the fridge. Too bad the work culture was such that people would spend 12-14 hours a day there and not even think about opening one up. I interviewed for an office job where during the interview they claimed to have beer readily available in the fridge... although I ended up turning it down.
  7. Oh Dusty, you continue to amaze us... I can't stop laughing about how ridiculous it was that Mateo actually scored.
  8. I have my theory, but I'm not opening that can of worms tonight. Vance, I think I can read your mind, and there definitly seems to be a pattern there. I agree. No argument here...
  9. That's ridiculous, the Royals will never make the playoffs! The Cubs will probably end up playing the Yankees.
  10. How does someone get on the waiting list?
  11. I can't wait for this to be all be over...
  12. That's all well and good, but there's not a whole lot out there to spend it on in the pitching department and that's where the Cubs are really going to be hurting.
  13. Nobody has even mentioned my favorite part of this quote... Which is it Dusty, do you want young players or do you want your horses?
  14. don't pull anything patting yourself on the back, dusty. :pukel: It scares me he's so quick to praise pagan and put down Murton. When Pagan does well, its obvious and expected...however Murton is only doing well because where "we put him", like Murton has nothing to do with it. What's Baker's problem with Murton? He's white? I appreciate the question mark. But so is Barrett and a lot of other players that Baker plays with regularity. Because he's a white young player who has other options to play his position that can be considered close to his production unlike players like Micheal Barret? Oh come on! If that was the case then Neifi would have played over Theriot... err, wait a minute...
  15. Rivera was granfathered in. Players who wore number 42 prior to it being retired can continue to wear it, but the number cannot be re-assigned to any other players. On the same subject... Nothing against Roberto Clemente, but I hope his number 21 is never retired across the major leagues. It is retired in Pittsburgh and that's how it should be, but it's not fair to compare his accomplishments to Jackie Robinson's. Retiring a number across the board should be reserved for only the most monumental accomplishments.
  16. Well, that was just a rough lineup and Pie would be there eventually, but right now Pagan is a better player. Pie could use one more year at Iowa. Better to fill the position cheaply with Pagan than paying 6-7 million per year to bring Pierre back.
  17. The general consensus seems to be that the Cubs can't go into next year with a lineup containing Pierre, Murton, Jones, Cedeno, and Izturis. Why not do the following? 1) Don't re-sign Pierre and move Pagan to CF. The Cubs get younger and cheaper in CF, while not losing any speed and picking up some power. 2) With the money saved on Pierre, Wood, Maddux, etc, sign the best available corner outfielder. 3) Platoon Jones and Murton in the other corner outfield position. 4) With the leftover money, sign one of the best available Starting Pitchers. The Cubs would then be looking at a lineup of something like: Izturis Barrett D. Lee Ramirez New Corner OF (ex. Soriano or C. Lee) Jones/Murton Pagan Cedeno And a pitching staff like: Zambrano New Starting Pitcher Prior Marshall/Hill Guzman/Marmol Add in the return of a solid bullpen, and possibly a relatively cheap Kerry Wood joining them, and I think this would be a solid team that would compete for the division. All it would take is 2 players, and virtually no change in payroll.
  18. I'm torn between the Diamondbacks (who I have always liked) and the Dodgers (solely because of Maddux).
  19. Did you get the impression that Grace was about to criticize Cubs management but held back a little bit? It was funny the way he said "Well I know he hasn't been playing every day because of.... for some reason or another I wouldn't know."
  20. Sounds like he definitely wants to return to the Cubs. I think Hendry will get something worked out to bring him back cheaply next year, maybe with an option for 2008.
  21. The problem is they send them by Media Mail. Ronny runs to his mailbox every day when the mail arrives and then returns to his room dejected knowing it will be another night of Neifi at 2B...
  22. I'm not a hockey fan by any means, but the Blackhawks are in a completely different league in terms of incompetence and actually make the Cubs look good in comparison.
  23. I'm not saying that you posted it or anything, but I really seem to recall a "Matt Murton is regressing" thread, or something similar. Might just need to the let the guy fight his way out of it, ya know? What's to lose this season? No reason to sit him at all IMO. I didn't post that about Murton, but I think with him it was just a different feeling. Even when Murton was slumping, I always felt that he was a good hitter and it was only a matter of time for him to fight through it... With Cedeno I'm not so sure that this is something he can fight through.
  24. No respect for Jody! He is listed at number three on that list. Exactly my point! :D
