  1. It's not that they're giving him one...it's that they've already given him one and have been waiting for the right time to announce it. If they want to see a revolt and one of the worst PR moves of all time, go ahead an announce that extension. Otherwise lets just get this over with, please!
  2. Is there any drug testing in the independent league?
  3. Kansas City is charging and only 2.5 games back!
  4. This could definitely be the case and it would make sense. It's possible that Hendry has a "gentleman's agreement" with Baker from early in the season that they would get the extension done and now he doesn't want to back out on his promise.
  5. It never benefits a team to let a lame duck manager run it into the ground. He is fighting for his job and will fall back on what he has done for his whole career, which is play the veterans every day and not let the rookies develop. He has to go so that the Cubs can clean house and let the youngsters play. It does absolutely no good for Neifi Perez to be starting on the 162nd game of the year, we already know what he can do.
  6. If by "a lot of years" you mean "1 out of 4" then yes he deserves it!
  7. I posted this in the game thread and I'll post it again... Hendry says that Baker deserves a chance to turn this around. Can someone please ask him to define what it would be to "turn the season around"??? If he doesn't see that this season is over, then he is delusional. There is no "turning around" this season, it's a lost cause. If by some miracle the Cubs go 56-36 (a .651 winning %) for the remainder of the season, they will end up exactly at .500 and well back of 1st place and the Wild Card. Would that mean that Baker turned the season around? Not to me or any other sensible Cubs fan it wouldn't! Fire Baker already, this is ridiculous!
  8. I realize that Hendry just got an extension, but if he doesn't act soon I don't discount the possibility of him going down with the ship. If he has such blind loyalty to Baker then I hope he's willing to lose his job right along with him.

  10. Read it and weep... http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060627&content_id=1526163&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc You're right, that article makes me want to take my anger out on something. I can't take this anymore!
  11. Don't tell Dusty that. He's more powerful than we know! So you caught that quote too huh? I couldn't help but laugh out loud at that one.
  12. And since the Cubs have already taken 9/10 of the backward step, they might as well finish it off!
  13. My 2nd team was Arizona, who has completely collapsed, so now I'm looking for team #3...
  14. I have been a Cubs fan my whole life and I can honestly say that I want them to lose every single game until Dusty Baker is fired. Only then will I be able to root for this team to win again. If by some miracle Baker is back next season, then I won't buy a single ticket. It's sad because I want to see Maddux win and I want to see the young pitchers do well and Zambrano be rewarded for his good starts, but those feelings are being overpowered by my desire for change. It has got to the point where I truly am disappointed when they win because I feel like that is setting the team back. How many others feel the same way?
  15. Neifi Perez would be offended by that. Take it back!
  16. Not even my worst nightmare could be that bad.
  17. No mention of this from Len, only that Wood started to feel fatigued after 60 pitches.
  18. I would hate to see the Cubs let Wood go and sign somewhere else for a few million dollars and have it come back to haunt us. They should buy out his contract and bring him back for 1 year with an incentive-laden deal. We've taken similar chances with Dempster, Williamson, and Miller so we can do it with Wood too. After all the money that has been spent on him, what's a few more million, and Wood also has to feel like he kind of owes it to the organization to come back cheap for a year until he can prove himself again.
  19. I'd go so far as to say that there are at least 14.
  20. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060619cubsbaker,1,4078401.story?coll=cs-home-headlines My favorite line...
  21. The Cubs haven't given me any reason for optimism. History has shown that they are willing to pay top dollar to keep their own players, but aren't willing to spend top dollar on the free agent market to bring in other superstar-caliber players.
