  1. As much as I was frustrated with the Prior/Cubs situation and glad to see him go, I'll be rooting for him to make a comeback from all these injuries. It truly is sad to see such potential go unrealized and it would be unrealistic to expect anything spectacular out of him in the future, but I just hope to see him again sometime on a major league mound.
  2. We're not even 2 months into the season and I'm already tired of this debate. I don't understand why Piniella has to defend Wood as the closer after every single blown save. Closers blow saves, it just happens. I don't hear anyone asking questions after he converts successful saves. Unless it gets to the point where Wood is blowing 2-3 consecutive games, I don't think this should even be a story. Wood is doing a solid, while not spectacular, job as the closer and Marmol is doing an outstanding job in the setup role. I wish the media would just leave it at that.
  3. Who on the roster should Lou have put in left field? Jason Marquis? Anyone but Soriano.
  4. All I can say is that John Paxson and the Bulls have been completely bailed out by the lottery. They were really stuck being a marginal playoff team, not good enough to compete for the title and not bad enough to get a franchise-changing player in the lottery. After seeing high picks of Curry, Chandler, and Thomas go to waste, it's time to draft Rose and build this team around a true franchise player. With Rose penciled in at point guard, they have plenty of other pieces to play with in the trade market and build a solid team around him. I haven't been this excited about the Bulls in quite some time... we may finally have a player who is exciting enough to demand watching.
  5. What ever happened to him anyway? He fizzled out pretty quickly.
  6. This just seems like a negotiating ploy to me and I still expect the state to end up buying Wrigley Field. Tribune Company has no reason to quickly sell the stadium to them on their first offer, especially with the leverage of private bidders to fall back on.
  7. Save Z for tomorrow. Lou is clearly not taking the best interest of my fantasy team into consideration...
  8. Yes, but he's actually too old to pitch period. He's going to be 45 in September. Everybody talks about Julio Franco being so old, but Johnson's not much younger. Randy Johnson's really underrated in terms of old-ness :) Some might say he is "sneaky old."
  9. Yes, but he's actually too old to pitch period.
  10. You guys were right about Ron... It's like nails on the chalkboard.
  11. So am I missing something, or if Pie goes down would the Cubs not have any reserve outfielders? Ward can barely play a corner outfield position when healthy and DeRosa can play out there on occasion, but nobody can play CF. I like Reed Johnson as a reserve and part-time starter, but his numbers are coming back to reality and he isn't doing anything right now that Pie can't do. With that aside, I still fail to understand the logic of carrying 13 pitchers.
  12. He's all rested and ready to go 3 innings tomorrow to preserve a 5 run lead.
  13. You would think we'd be playing better with Bobby Bonds in the leadoff spot...
  14. Hey guys, look at the bright side. Soriano is guaranteed another at bat.
  15. All I can think is to look at the man in the Reds' dugout and know that we will have the last laugh...
  16. With my company being big into Six Sigma, any changes to the rotation at this point would be unnecessary firefighting. There is clearly not enough data yet this season to justify a rotation change. Then again, I think the only black belt Lou has is the one that is struggling to contain his old-time manager belly.
  17. Yeah, but his glove is irreplaceable in the outfield.
  18. He was faster than hell, though. EDIT: Nevermind, I was thinking of Ced Landrum. I was a big fan of Ced Landrum's speed, but unfortunately he had absolutely no offensive ability. 27 out of 32 stolen bases in '91 was pretty good though!
  19. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/lou-on-marquis.html Here is an exerpt from the article. I love how Piniella handled this.
  20. A new link on ESPN.com, with confirmation of the same story... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3267163 It's looking more and more likely that we haven't seen the last of Roger Clemens in pinstripes.
  21. I think unethical is a little strong, but maybe underhanded would fit. Zell will squeeze every last penny out of the Cubs and Wrigley Field with no regard for the future of the team since he has no stake in it. Has anyone considered how the Cubs use the Wrigley Field name to sell merchandise? I would be interested to see the estimated income brought in by using the Wrigley Field name, as opposed to how much the Cubs could get by selling naming rights.
  22. That's the catch. The owner won't be paying for Wrigley, because it will be sold separately to the state agency.
  23. I would understand if this were to happen, but a summer without a trip to Wrigley Field just wouldn't feel like summer.
  24. Clemens was asking for trouble, and now here we go... Congress drafts letter reportedly asking feds to look at Clemens
  25. I'm with you. Nameless home jerseys and no blues!
