  1. I don't know the answer to the first part of your question, but no you cannot be "less mad about Thibs." Even if the injury was bound to happen sooner or later, it happened "sooner" at a completely unnecessary time.
  2. My interest in the playoffs just popped.
  3. Textbook journalism.
  4. On the bright side, at least we don't have to worry about him playing in the Olympics.
  5. I seem to remember some misplays in the outfield and I just don't see LaHair being an everyday outfielder. He is serviceable enough to fill in at a corner outfield position occasionally, but I think his deficiencies would become apparent if he were to play out there on a regular basis. As for comparing his trade value to Pena, that is probably not a fair assessment. LaHair is younger, cheaper, and (if he keeps hitting anywhere near his current level) better.
  6. He's 0 for 5 with 4 K's against LHP, he's not exactly inspiring much confidence to get him time against them. Except now he has 1 home run against LHP. How many do the rest of the lineup have?
  7. I don't know when we'll pull the plug on him. My gut tells me midseason of next year. I think that our best hope is to pick up the full remainder of his salary and hope for something like the Sosa return. If we're going to take that much of a bath, may as well get something in return. Someone would bite on that, right? Am I reading correctly that Soriano's slugging percentage is equal to his batting average? After 11 games he has hit nothing better than a single??? I guess it could be worse... He could be OPS'ing .135.
  8. He gives off the incoherence of Ronnie without the charm. Anyone know when he is signed through? Hopefully he is just a placeholder for Wood or someone else to fill the spot long term.
  9. I wish this entire game was a glitch in the box score.
  10. Awesome. First game I've been able to watch all year, so it feels like opening day for me.
  11. I think it is a stretch to call the Cubs' rotation anything better than average at this point. Combine that with a below average bullpen, and this team needs more than just a little offense to make the playoffs. I fail to see how anyone could consider anything Epstein/Hoyer have done so far to be "infuriating."
  12. I am hearing a rather annoying high-pitched whine. It is much more audible on my 5.1 home theater system, but I can also hear it through my TV's speakers.
  13. Is it just me, or is it creeping toward the center of the screen? I know they have to accommodate people without HD sets, but it looks somewhat out of place on a wide screen TV.
  14. I just checked my waiting list position and I made a big jump recently. I was at 12,000 a few months ago and now I am up to 8,000. Has anyone had any luck with updating their contact info? The Cubs sent me an email a few months ago to update my contact info. When I go to the website, they ask for me to enter my account number or email address and then they say they are sending me an email with details, but I have tried multiple times and that email never shows up (not in my spam folder either).
  15. 6 teams might make sense logistically, and I fear we are headed there eventually, but that is far too easy for teams to make the playoffs. If you are going to play a long 162 game season, it needs to mean something. The only change I would have made to the playoffs was increasing the divisional round to 7 games. In a game that relies so heavily on statistics, any system that involves 1, 2, or 3 game playoff series just has way too much randomness involved in the outcome.
  16. Even signing him to an extension doesn't stop the Cubs from trading him later. Whoever trades for him most likely would have wanted to sign that same extension anyway.
  17. My guess is there would have been a lot of zip on his punch, but he would have swung and missed.
  18. That is pretty much the first thing I thought.
  19. No, they don't. According to everything I have read, the Yankees are trying to get under the luxury tax ceiling. I can't imagine them paying Soler significant money to sit in their Minor League system.
  20. According to Wikipedia, Soler was born 11/19/92, which means he just turned 19 a few months ago. I agree that it is a tad optimistic to expect anything from him at the major league level prior to 2014 at the absolute earliest.
  21. So what does this do for the Cubs in terms of ranking their minor league system? Combining this with last year's spending spree in the draft, are the Cubs closing in on a Top 10 farm system?
  22. I'm just getting home and wading through the news. Is this official or just speculation from one source?
