  1. I know he has been pitching great, but this is ridiculous.
  2. Coghlan is from the Jake Fox school of supersubs. He plays a lot of positions and plays most, if not all, of them poorly. If it is possible to park him where he can cause the least damage (Left Field) and have another more competent defender (Baez) at a key defensive position, I would be in favor of that. The Cubs are making the best of what they have to work with right now, but I would certainly not be married to Coghlan in the supersub role.
  3. I don't know, but a lot of Soler's hits have that Baseball Simulator 1.000 feel where if the fielder were to catch it they would be carried into the outfield wall.
  4. I know it's probably the right move, but I don't like Ross coming up here with Schwarber's spot due to lead off in the event that the Giants tie this up.
  5. 4-3, 6-3, 5-3. Which infielder is he going to ground out to this time?
  6. Right? It's a straight fastball every.single.time. "Maybe we ought to try something different this time."
  7. Apparently Joel Murray is Bill Murray's brother. I can't wait until we have Kevin Farley in the booth, although at least I would have heard of him.
  8. As I said. On an unrelated note, who is Joel Murray?
  9. This Giants offense is going to eat Motte alive, isn't it?
  10. How has everyone been doing on ticket resale this year? I haven't noticed much increase in demand and am still selling a high majority of my tickets at a loss, including most weekend games. I'm starting to wonder whether we will ever see a return to the late 2000's attendance levels. Even with the Cubs playing well, the market is still flooded with tickets to almost every game. Increased StubHub fees don't help either, but it still feels like something is off. There are plenty of tickets available to this weekend's Giants series below face value. What is everyone waiting for?
  11. Barely. I'm not saying Baez couldn't possibly be slightly worse. He certainly could. But with how bad Castro has been, there is very little risk in taking that chance. There is virtually nothing to lose except for Castro's future trade value, which I really don't care about at this point.
  12. He needs to be up. No reason to keep trotting Starlin out. If you listen to Jesse Rogers, Baez shouldn't be called up because he could be "much worse" than Castro. Statistically, I don't know how that is even remotely possible.
  13. what did he say? Something about Brooke Hogan's boyfriend.
  14. Maddon is certainly playing with fire here.
  15. It seems like just a few years ago it was a luxury for teams to keep a 12th pitcher. How many other teams are using 13+ man staffs on a regular basis?
  16. Hopefully we look back at this day 2 months from now and are relieved because Baez has shown promise at the major league level. Unfortunately it is probably more likely that we will look back and think the Cubs should have got "something" while they still could.
  17. Oh please no Jonny Gomes. We already dodged that bullet once.
  18. That was the missing ingredient all along... guts!
  19. Is this an indication that the Cubs are cash-strapped, trading for a guy whose salary is being mostly paid by the Dodgers?
  20. Wada is probably better than Haren if he can stay healthy, but that is a big "if".
  21. I can't see any scenario where Price would bypass a chance at the open market to sign a long term deal in Toronto. Also, now we don't have to worry about losing a draft pick for signing him, not that it was a huge concern to begin with.
