  1. its horsefeathering dumb made up BS. Everyone will learn to accept it just like they do shootouts and then 3-on-3 OTs in hockey, and the bizarre CFB OT rules. But that doesnt make it any less dumb. It's fixing something that wasn't broken. Was there a giant groundswell of people complaining about extra innings previously? Sure Manfred is obsessed with the length of games but only like 5% of games go to extras so its not exactly hurting the game. I don't think there are any casual fans that think baseball is more exciting because of it. I don't see the benefit...preserve your pitching staff sure, but we've been dealing with it for 100 years, its not that big of a deal, call someone up from AAA. The thing is, as a general statement, baseball games ARE too long. But just chopping off the tail (extra innings), which just so happens to be the most tense and exciting part of a game, doesn't fix the problem. I'm fine with making tweaks to improve the pace of the game, but why kill the best part of the game to artificially shorten it? Extra innings are so anticlimactic now and the outcome feels flukey on both sides.
  2. Workman is trash. But outside of Kimbrel, who isn't really?
  3. What other outfield options do we have on the taxi squad? Anything is better than Happ at this point.
  4. Cubs relievers had a 3.46 ERA coming into today Do you believe that ERA accurately reflects their performance, or has there been some unsustainable luck involved over a small sample size? Dillon Maples currently has an ERA of 2.00, but walks more than 1 batter per inning. Dan Winkler is at 1.43, but has also walked 1 batter per inning. It is only a matter of time before the walks come back to burn them, and the bullpen as a whole.
  5. It probably doesn't mean a lot in terms of wins and losses over the course of a season, but the drop off from Caratini to Romine seems significant.
  6. With ads on the pitchers mound now, how long before the outfield grass is plastered with them too?
  7. That is awful. It is difficult to see anyone go through that. His condition seems to be progressing rapidly and I wouldn't be surprised if that sit down session is the last time we see him. I hope his family can get the help they need to take care of him.
  8. How about we don't let Winkler walk in a few runs here
  9. What are the chances we aren't stuck with this stupid extra innings rule forever? If anything, at least play a few "normal" extra innings before putting the runner on. If the game gets to the 13th, then go ahead and put a runner on if you must, but I still hate that we don't get a chance for marathon extra innings games anymore.
  10. In hindsight, Sogard needed to take the at bat instead of Romine. Lefty or not.
  11. That last half inning really makes you appreciate having a quality defense that doesn't kick the ball all over the diamond.
  12. Wasn't it already down last year?
  13. So much for that bullpen ERA.
  14. Is it time to activate Mark Grace as the hitting coach? Screw that, put him in Left Field.
  15. 2 hits in 2 innings. No way these guys can maintain that torrid pace.
  16. Well, I guess Maples has been ok. They still obviously don't trust him for anything more than mop-up duty though.
  17. Its really pouring salt in the wounds when your pitcher gets touched up early. Im not a fan of this one much.I'm intrigued by the idea, but the drawbacks may be too large to overcome. If a pitcher gets injured in the first inning, now it's a double-whammy because the team loses both their starting pitcher and DH. They could add a provision to exclude for injuries, but that still doesn't help when a pitcher is getting shelled early in the game. If that team loses their DH, they have also lost some of their ability to potentially score runs and get back into the game, which makes for a less exciting game overall.
  18. I'm cool with moving the mound back and restricting shifts.
  19. Damn, I thought that was my idea. I guess Len had it first.
  20. That was a blast. Strop in line for the W!
  21. Add Matt Duffy to the Covid list.
  22. Is it wrong of me to notice something in common between all of the players and coaches on the Cubs who are on the Covid list?
