its horsefeathering dumb made up BS. Everyone will learn to accept it just like they do shootouts and then 3-on-3 OTs in hockey, and the bizarre CFB OT rules. But that doesnt make it any less dumb. It's fixing something that wasn't broken. Was there a giant groundswell of people complaining about extra innings previously? Sure Manfred is obsessed with the length of games but only like 5% of games go to extras so its not exactly hurting the game. I don't think there are any casual fans that think baseball is more exciting because of it. I don't see the benefit...preserve your pitching staff sure, but we've been dealing with it for 100 years, its not that big of a deal, call someone up from AAA. The thing is, as a general statement, baseball games ARE too long. But just chopping off the tail (extra innings), which just so happens to be the most tense and exciting part of a game, doesn't fix the problem. I'm fine with making tweaks to improve the pace of the game, but why kill the best part of the game to artificially shorten it? Extra innings are so anticlimactic now and the outcome feels flukey on both sides.
