    Mark Grace wore #17 for 13 years and had well over 2,000 hits with the Cubs. Obviously Kris Bryant had a much higher peak, but there is something to be said for the consistency and length of contributions from Grace. I think they lay equal claim to the number in Cubs history.

    It's going to be hard to catch some of those teams, but 5th or 6th place seems like a reasonable target.

    I feel the same way. Bryant and Baez are likely not great long term investments, but Rizzo isn't going to break the bank. Whatever it takes to sign him isn't going to significantly impact the rebuild one way or another. If he signs for 3 or 4 years, he is still going to provide decent production and maybe the Cubs will even be good again toward the end of his deal. Maybe this is all wishful thinking, but he certainly seems like the most likely of the three to come back.

    In less than a week, the Cubs have gone from a very solid bullpen to possibly the league's worst. I guess that is to be expected when trading their 3 best relievers (assuming Kimbrel gets dealt) and sending the 4th best down to get stretched out.

    Bailey Horn - High-A LHP who will be 24 going into next season. https://www.milb.com/player/bailey-horn-690544 He was a 5th round pick in 2020 and received the 3rd-highest signing bonus from that White Sox draft class.

    I like what I have seen from Rafael Ortega. What are the chances that he can actually be a useful player beyond this season? Not as an everyday player, but I like him much better off the bench than Happ or Heyward.

    Wow, that sounds like best case scenario for Chafin. Palencia is intriguing.

    Question about that last play... It took Javy a looong time to touch first base. If the second runner had crossed home plate, which I couldn't tell if he did, would the final score have been 7-5? I don't think I've ever seen that happen in a walk off scenario. (Yes, I bet the -1.5)

    Too many pitches, too much risk. But at least he struck out the side and got the ERA down to 0.49. Now shut him down.

    Heyward is atrocious. Happ makes less than 20% of JHey and is a little less productive. That’s not saying much. Happ is also 26 and was really good last year. I'd let him get as many AB's as possible down the stretch to see if he can figure it out. I get it, but I have also never been convinced of Happ being anything more than a fourth outfielder.

    Is that going to be the new normal with contractually obligated days off? Heck, there was one game where Boog was off and he was at the ballpark hanging out in a box.

    Heyward isn't going anywhere, but I'm ok with him taking all Happ's at bats.

    One of my biggest Cubs disappointments this season has been Boog Sciambi. He has been fine overall and the Cubs could certainly have done much worse, but he isn't the elite broadcaster that I expected. Where Len Kasper grew on me over time, Sciambi has gone the other direction. The more I hear him, the less impressed I am. I'm sure the inconsistency in the booth hasn't helped, so maybe things will improve over time. He still just feels like generic national announcer guy doing games. He has done an adequate job, maybe even above average, but I expected so much more.

    A little bittersweet here at Wrigley seeing Bryzzo go back to back for possibly the last time.

    If he tweaked something, he wouldn't be out there. I think it's probably just overuse and a bit of arm fatigue. He needs 2-3 days off and then hopefully he'll be fine.

    Wouldn't it make more sense to just put Chirinos in RF and Wisdom at 3B?

    Might as well go with Maples now and hope he can strike everyone out before he wild pitches the runner in.
