  1. Kofi has made huge improvements over the course of this season. At this point, I think it is likely that someone would take a flier on him late in the first round or early second. I would love to see him come back for one more season though and work himself up to a possible lottery pick.
  2. Meh. At least we got David Bote locked up.
  3. Fixed.
  4. I would have much rather had Lester at 3-4 Million than Arrieta at 7, but I don't hate this. At least they spent money on someone.
  5. Yeah, but think how much money those teams are spending on payroll. Suckers!
  6. I'll give you a hint. It was the refs.
  7. On one hand, expanded playoffs are likely the Cubs' only chance at success for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, expanded playoffs suck. There is nothing interesting about a .500 or sub-.500 team making a playoff run. This isn't the NCAA Basketball Tournament. I fear that Pandora's Box has already been opened though and the owners see money that they aren't going to leave on the table. Stepping back a bit though, the relationship between players and owners is an absolute mess. I don't think there is any way they can come to terms on a new CBA without a significant strike. As much as I hate to miss out on baseball, it is time for the players to play hardball. The union should be advising everyone to save their 2021 money in preparation for a long work stoppage, because that is the only way the owners are going to come to their senses. A work stoppage won't be good for the game, but it is probably better than continuing on the current trajectory.
  8. So basically, it's just a way to backload the money that the Cubs can't afford in 2021.
  9. How often do mutual options actually get exercised by both parties? It would seem to be a rare scenario where a player's performance was good enough to justify the team picking up their option, while simultaneously not good enough for the player to think he can get more in the open market.
  10. Reading Ken Rosenthal's latest article, he indicated that MLB is already pushing expanded playoffs for 2021 in their negotiations (or lack thereof) for the coming season. https://theathletic.com/2344146/2021/01/25/rosenthal-starting-spring-training-in-three-weeks-makes-little-sense/ We're going to have the terrible expanded postseason forever now, aren't we?
  11. Following Nate Robinson's meme-worthy knockout, Kendall Gill has challenged Jake Paul to a fight. https://www.boxingscene.com/ex-nba-guard-kendall-gill-jake-paul-come-fight-someone-your-own-size--154956 42 year old Kendall Gill may have been able to give him a run for his money, but I doubt he stands much of a chance at 52.
  12. Whoa! Where did they find the money? Maybe they found a few more data analysts to let go.
  13. I disagree with that being the right thing. Jackie Robinson is, and should remain, the one exception to the rule. Let teams retire numbers if they want, but it really shouldn't be something that is implemented MLB-wide.
  14. It sucks to see Jon go, especially on top of everything else going on with the Cubs and their lack of spending. Looking at this move independently though, it was a good baseball decision, so I can't really criticize the Cubs. I was already a semi-Nationals fan before Schwarber and Lester, so I will definitely be following them closely this year.
  15. Yikes! It is going to be a long season. Hope for a high draft pick I guess and go from there.
  16. I'm still hanging onto mine for now, but it is a year-to-year decision. I wonder how quickly the Cubs are going to exhaust the entire waiting list with the combination of higher prices, economic challenges, and poor performance. Even in the best years, my tickets have been break even at best, and this year has the potential to be a huge loss. For the amount of money I spend on Season Tickets, I could easily just set aside a fund and buy tickets to whatever games I wanted to each year. Anything short of a World Series is going to be relatively affordable, and it doesn't look like we're going to see another World Series anytime soon.
  17. I love Len, but Boog is just as good and might even be a tiny bit better. Everyone is happy now, with both sides of town having outstanding broadcasters in both the TV and Radio booths. Now let's get back to scrounging up pennies to afford a league minimum middle reliever to fill out the roster.
  18. Plenty of good seats still available!
  19. They are going to make a killing on merch sales this year.
  20. This is Smurf-tastic.
  21. I wonder how much, if at all, Len regrets his "Future MVP Addison Russell" declaration from the ring ceremony. Of course he couldn't have known what would happen with Russell in the subsequent years, but that statement even felt like a reach at the time. Again, not faulting Len at all, but it kind of sucks that Russell turned out to be an all-time jackass, and one that couldn't play baseball well either.
  22. ?????????????????? Haven't you heard that the Cubs (and everything having to do with them) are totally broke? Don't forget that Marquee Network has secured massive carriage deals with every carrier!
  23. That would significantly soften the blow if they are legitimately going to search for and hire a worthy replacement. I'll believe it when I see it though.
  24. Coomer has grown on me a bit over the years. He isn't going to give you much hard-hitting analysis, but "goofy country bumpkin" isn't always a bad thing to play off Pat. Of course if Pat retires in a few years and we end up with Zaidman/Coomer, then we have a huge problem.
