  1. I think Pie and Prior could get either of those right now. Can't deal people on the DL.
  2. We do know how the team will do, that's the problem. This was a subpar offense even with Lee. We're looking at least at a .200 point drop from his OPS last year with anybody we replace him with, even if they hit the hot streak of their lives.
  3. Wow, the overreaction is rampant. I've noticed everything I say will happen never does, so I'm trying my best to change the situation, what have you done?
  4. Well if it's this serious of an injury, there could be career-long side effects. So much for the prodigious power for the next five years, hello overpriced paperweight.
  5. The Pirates are probably ok with moving Craig Wilson, as all they have to do is call up Eldred. I wouldn't mind Wilson on the team at all.
  6. I'm not really as upset as the jokes I'm making seem to indicate. However, it's times like this where it would be greatly appreciated if the team would be honest about an injury situation for once.
  7. Or Jack Daniels. Or their bastard child, Jack Cuervo.
  8. Nothing quite like a 65 million dollar paperweight...
  9. The fact the x-rays were called inconclusive is not a good sign, and could be a very very bad one.
  10. Elsewhere, the score in Baltimore is Indians 9, Orioles 18 going into the top of the 9th.
  11. Were you looking at the numbers just a few posts back? ARod is much more dangerous in the postseason and in general in "clutch" situations than Jeter is. Yeah Jeter has had a few memorable hits. He's also had more than his fair share of not-memorable groundouts to second base in the postseason.
  12. Forget about your friend. The knowledge you gain by doing it yourself is worth more than anything you will ever get out of the database. Also, if you know of a ready source of more detailed raw data than what the bpxscore gives, and is available on a daily basis...... let me know !! Yeah, but the friend is offering to do it for free as a project for one of his classes, and then just hand it over to me. And lazy as I am, that sounds like a win-win proposition to me. I plan on starting off with probably around 1985, and grabbing everything from retrosheet. Problem is that they don't have anything from 2005 yet, and I don't know when it's coming. This is definately going to be a work in progress for quite a while...
  13. Yep... sure do. You smug old bugger! Let me put it this way, any advice for those of us wanting to build one? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off as smug. As far as advice on building databases goes, use the program that you're most familiar with, and let the information you want to retrieve from your database determine what and how you put into it. All I'm doing is entering the information from the daily box score that's published in various sources. There are limitations to this.... i.e. I'll never be able to generate lefty/right splits or specific pitcher to batter splits. I just made that decision based on the fact that I'm too damned lazy to do any more input that just the boxscore. In any case, go for it !! ... and have fun ! Ok, so yours isn't completely over-the-top. Looks like there's a hole in the market for me to fill then. I have a friend offering to build a database program that'll allow me all sorts of cross-referencing abilities. My only problem is going to be inputting massive amounts of data, and figuring out which items to flag. Thanks for the advice. :)

  15. Fred, do you have your own little database you work with and update? Cause I would sure like to get a look at that thing.
  16. Nah dude, it makes perfect sense. L L R R L L R R S The S is for switch (obviously), cause we know Neifi has first dibs.
  17. Well this is certainly the sort of place that'll help with Marshall limiting his runs allowed.
  18. I could easily think of several dozen hitters I'd rather have up than Jeter. Care to name a few? I would also take Pujols also. excluding ortiz and pujols: derrek lee, a-rod, travis hafner, manny ramirez, carlos delgado, todd helton, jason giambi, jason bay, vladimir guerrero, mark teixeira, miguel cabrera, ken griffey jr, morgan ensberg, lance berkman, adam dunn, aramis ramirez, andruw jones, jim edmonds, chase utley, david wright, chad tracy, richie sexson, paul konerko, brian giles, brian roberts, michael young, pat burrell, gary sheffield, jeff kent, geoff jenkins, nick johnson, jhonny pheralta, troy glaus, david delluci, bobby abreu, matt holliday, miguel tejada, mike sweeney, cliff floyd, hideki matsui, randy winn, jason varitek, victor martinez, and jermaine dye. And I'm not sure I wouldn't take a few people coming out of retirement... Larry Walker certainly... maybe even Tony Gwynn or Don Mattingly
  19. Amazing how you joined after the 2005 regular season, and have gotten 4376 posts until now... Especially in the off-season! I've been here a season and a half and I only have around 5,500. I got a rock.
  20. Yeah, I decided to go way over the top and make some deals instead. All in all I gave up: Mauer Harden Bonds Tejada Loretta For: Willingham Johan Santana Beckett Peralta Utley Yay for wheeling and dealing!
  21. In this particular league the scoring for hitters is AVG, OBP, R, HR, RBI, and SB. So anyway, I have Joe Mauer behind the plate. He's not a bad hitter by any means, but most of his doubles power simply doesn't show up in this league. His AVG and OBP should be pretty good though, but the lackluster lineup he's in wont afford him a lot of R or RBI. And Josh Willingham is sitting there on the waiver wire, just begging to be picked up. He should get a ton of playing time between catcher and left (he'll almost certainly end up with more PA's than Mauer). He's got pretty good HR power and good OBP, but his AVG can't stay this high. That said, he should be batting behind Jeremy Hermida and Miguel Cabrera for most of the year, so his RBI opportunities should be pretty nice, even if he wont get knocked in a lot due to the people behind him. Normally this wouldn't be much of an issue for me. I'd pick up Willingham and trade Mauer for whatever value I could get for him. Unfortunately, this is just a six team league, so nobody else is really in need of a catcher badly enough they'd give me an upgrade anywhere. Would you drop Mauer for Willingham?
  22. Roger Cedeno was in pretty much the same boat, wasn't he?
  23. Then it becomes a matter of degrees. Wood's contract isn't that big a deal cause we can afford to overpay a couple guys and still be fine, Kendall's contract becomes the hands down worst because Oakland never has any money, etc. If you're taking that route, I'd say Helton's contract is the worst. Talk about crippling a team for the foreseeable future...
