  1. 1. I've probably watched just as much baseball as you, if not more. 2. The entire premise of damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't is that it's impossible to win. By definition of the game, it's entirely possible to win. The idea is to make educated moves so that over the long haul, the good decisions vastly outweight the bad ones. In 99% of cases, that's evident in the statistical record. I'm sorry if you disagree. But if Dusty had left Marshall in and Marshall had gotten a DP, Dusty wasn't damned. You may be trying to make a different point, but you're using the wrong cliches if you are.
  2. Yeah, but I would love it if he had managed to at least knock down that Pujols shot through the hole.
  3. Peter Gammons was looking so afraid of being touched by the people sitting next to him.
  4. Why wouldn't you want to put your best pitchers in there in the toughest situations? Just because it's early?
  5. Sorry not buying that. Say Marshall remains in the game and gives up the long ball? Then it's "stupid Baker why leave the rookie in the game?" The manger is damned either way. He leaves the starter in too long or pulls them too soon? It's all so subjective. Nobody has a crystal ball. The manager certainly isn't damned either way. The fact of the matter is that leaving Marshall in gave us a better chance to get out of it. You're acting as if the only choices were to let Wuertz let two in or Marshall give up the longball. With Marshall being an extreme groundball pitcher, there was more than a decent chance that he could've kept anything from happening at all.
  6. Well at least there wasn't too much damage done...
  7. My apologies. But doesn't quoting me kinda defeat the purpose of saying that?
  8. Marshall sits around the 90th percentile in GB/FB ratio, by the way.
  9. Looking at Wuertz, he's pretty much a flyball pitcher... Damn.
  10. Looking at last year's expected runs matrix, bases juiced with 1 out yielded 1.5279 runs on average.
  11. We really need a nickname for Marshall... suggestions?
  12. So this half inning is going to be hugely important to the possible outcome of this game.
