  1. I think he was on that diet when he was a Cub.
  2. We could probably nitpick the West Tennessee reference also. :D
  3. No. Coomer didn't join the Cubs until 2001. He shared time at 1b with Matt Stairs.
  4. Looks like it's the new Sun-Times beat writer for the Cubs, Gordon Wittenmyer. last year he covered the twins. on xm homeplate the other day he pretty much said he doesnt know anything about the cubs That makes me feel better about the guy. I'll wait until he learns a little bit about the Cubs before I give up on him. If he saw Rich Hill pitch, he'd probably be singing a different tune.
  5. Who wrote it?
  6. I agree with this sentiment. This team is in a position to make a huge turnaround from the 2006 season, and there's nothing better than seeing everyone in camp early to get a good head start on that turnaround.
  7. That Arizona sun sure can be bright, too.
  8. This may be more that The Powers That Be see DeRosa as a better RF backup or platoon option since he has experience there. I've heard that he has a good outfield arm. It would make more sense to have him play RF and Theriot 2B than the reverse if you want them both in the lineup. Eric Patterson will hopefully earn a look later this season. I'm all for positional flexibility when it makes sense. That's true, and I could see Piniella putting DeRosa in RF over Jones with Theriot coming in to play 2b against lefties. Man this team really needs another infielder. Theriot's sample size isn't really all that small. He's definitely earned an opportunity to show what he can do. Theriot just turned 27 in December, so it's not really fair to say he didn't make it until age 27. Brian Giles was 25 when he got his first decent sample size at the major league level. Paul LoDuca? 27. I'm sure there are many others. Will Theriot have an OBP over .400? Absolutely not. But, the guy gets on base at a very respectable level. 53 games is not a full season, but it's not just a total fluke either. DeRosa in RF while Theriot plays 2b against LHP is, IMO, a whole lot better than DeRosa at 2b, Jones in RF and Theriot on the bench.
  9. Floyd, Murton, Jones, Soriano, Ward, DeRosa, Theriot, Pagan Pagan is not needed.
  10. DeRosa>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Macias
  11. Hmm. I thought he was. Maybe some spots will open up this spring with a trade of a bullpen arm that will give Hill or McGehee a chance to win a job.
  12. I was always under the impression that Jones wanted to be traded, not that the Cubs wanted to trade him. Soriano plays nearly every game. Jones has played 159 games in CF at the major league level, with 5 errors and 11 assists. He makes for an adequate back up if Soriano needs to be rested for one reason or another. If they need something more than a temporary fill in, they can call up Pie. I did list Theriot 4th on the depth chart at 3b. If Hill made the team, Theriot would be 5th on the depth chart. If for some reason they had to go that deep at 3b, they could call up one of Moore, McGehee or Craig. Basically, I think with the guys that are currently locked into positions, they have 1 opening for the last bench spot, and I don't think it really matters all that much who it is. It could be a utility infielder like Hill or McGehee, or it could be Pagan. As long as it isn't Tomas Perez, I won't care all that much who gets the last spot from the group of Moore, McGehee, Hill or Pagan.
  13. No wonder he hurt his ribs. They're practically protruding from his chest. There's no meat on them bones.
  14. I'd love to see DeRosa at SS and Theriot at 2b more than just 20 games.
  15. I didn't even know they kept track of that info. I looked up my own records, and it's not nearly as impressive. 1 first, 3 seconds and a 3rd out of 9 total teams since 2003. I won't mention the 5th, 6th and 2 7ths. In 2004, I was quite unlucky. 3 teams and all 3 finished in 2nd place. Last year, I was 1st and 3rd. Almost all of the teams I've played on in Yahoo were Cub related leagues.
  16. I disagree about a back up 3b. Here's what I have for depth based on Pagan, Ward, Floyd, Theriot and Blanco: 1b: Lee, Ward, Floyd 2b: DeRosa, Theriot, Izturis SS: Izturis, DeRosa, Theriot 3b: Aramis, DeRosa, Barrett, Theriot LF: All outfielders CF: Soriano, Jones, Pagan, Theriot? RF: All outfielders C: Barrett, Blanco The 25th guy can be anyone since DeRosa can play 3b and Jones can play CF. It probably comes down to Hill, Cedeno, Pagan, Moore or McGehee. Hill is on the outside since he's not on the 40 man roster. Someone on the 40 man that goes on the 60 day DL opens up a spot for Hill.
  17. You've been on quite a hiatus. Welcome back. I fixed Muskat for you.
  18. Other rule changes include: IAL :w00t:
  19. Has Rey Ordonez received a spring training invite with anyone? I'll understand if no one wants to divulge such information.
  20. I know I mentioned in this thread somewhere for everyone to stop bagging on each other. Please respect my wishes.
  21. Lets see how he performs before making bold statements like that. If he reverts back to his sub 4.00 ERA form, $7MM a year will be a bargain, if he puts up a 6.00 ERA it was a horrible signing. Yeah, I can't give the nod to Marquis until he actually pitches his way to something worse than Todd Hundley.
  22. Posts with actual substance: BigbadB: 11437 JC: 3 I'm a little bit ahead of you there. :D
  23. The Cubs have done it. Or at least came very close. 2006: 5th in AVG, 16th in OBP 2005: 2nd in AVG, 11th in OBP 2004: 6th in AVG, 11th in OBP 2003: 11th in AVG, 13th in OBP During the 4 years that Hendry/Baker have been in charge, the Cubs have walked 1795 times. Atlanta: 2192 Philadelphia: 2561 NY Mets: 2034 Washington: 2103 Florida: 2023 St. Louis: 2193 Houston: 2213 Cincinnati: 2348 Milwaukee: 2120 Pittsburgh: 1874 San Diego: 2295 Colorado: 2257 LA Dodgers: 2085 San Francisco: 2223 Arizona: 2082 Cubs walks in 2006: 395 League average walks in 2006: 537 Cubs walks in 2005: 419 League average in walks in 2005: 525 Cubs walks in 2004: 489 League average walks in 2004: 546 Cubs walks in 2003: 492 League average walks in 2003: 541 The league average in walks stays pretty consistent year after year. The Cubs walk rate has plummeted each year of Hendry's tenure. In the Baylor/Kimm year, the Cubs walked 585 times. That team just couldn't hit.
  24. Welcome back, JC. Whether it was a hiatus or sabbatical, I'm done with it. Its good to be home. Too bad, suckers. Haven't had to break out that emoticon out since the last time your graced us with your presence. :D Welcome back!
