I'm OBP, SLG, OPS, WHIP, ERA+ oriented. OBP is probably my favorite stat. I like guys who get on base. But, if there are two guys with comparable OBP, I favor the guy with the better SLG. I don't completely discount the traditional stats. I am still a fan of AVG. I think a decent SLG/high AVG guy is an ideal #6 hitter in a line up. For example, Moises Alou or Nomar Garciaparra would be ideal #6 hitters when constructing my line up. I want guys who can drive in the best OBP guys in the line up, which are typically your middle of the order power hitters. Those guys hit for a respectable average, and those hits will drive in runs where a walk wouldn't be beneficial, especially with the bottom half of the order coming to the plate.

If Walker was an "A" player, the Padres had no business offering arbitration if they didn't want to keep him. No team, and I mean NO team was going to give up compensation to sign Todd Walker away from the Padres. If the Padres assumed that some team would, they really are pretty stupid.

I don't think that would be as wrong as what the Padres did, but yeah, probably wrong for Walker to do that. But, you are assuming Walker would have done that. His past history doesn't really reflect that kind of attitude. The Padres gambled that by offering arbitration they could get compensation in return for a half season rental of their utility infielder. Walker accepted their offer and they couldn't reach an agreement on an amount, so it went to arbitration. They lost that gamble. Pay up.

Nomar did just as much as Jeter in 1999 in 100 less at bats. An argument could be made for any one of the top 7 or 8 guys to have won the MVP that year. Personally, I would have given it to Pedro.

I doubt that. The Cubs don't really have a RF. Jones is the most qualified to play there.

Well, looks like they could potentionally avoid the 100 losses mark this year. It'll be all thanks to Teahen. :o The Royals are an improved team. Meche, Bannister, Perez, Grienke and potentially Hochevar sometime midseason is a much better rotation than they had last year. Riske and Dotel is an improved pen. Alex Gordon, Ryan Shealy and Teahen all playing together makes for an improved offense. I don't think they'll lose 100. They definitely won't have a winning record, but they are improved.

I think the Padres used him as insurance at 2b. The Padres had no guarantee of getting Marcus Giles. In fact, they waited until the Braves non-tendered him. At that point, Walker became nothing more than a spare part to the Padres. The Padres gambled on Walker by offering arbitration. They lost. They should pay him. The Padres are in the wrong here.

If it makes you feel any better, my cable company auto-renews me each year. I would have to call them to cancel it. But, I like that I have that. I think you get discounts for auto-renewing, too. I called my cable company to put in my order, and they said it wasn't available to order yet. Still in a holding pattern.

Yeah, he should easily get to 125-130 games this year. He's done it exactly 3 times since 1998, so it should be very easy. :roll:

Nats still do well because everyone that buys into RFK will be first in line when the new ballpark opens. The rumor is that they are simply treading water until the new ballpark opens, focusing on minor league talent, and will only start to spend $ on free agents when the novelty of a new ballpark begins to wear off. The problem, however, is that their farm system is still currently in a state of shambles.

A team like the Marlins has to hit all cylinders at the right moment for them to win. The Cleveland Indians did it once as well. The Indians might be on their way again this year. If a few prospects don't pan out, repeat the process without the big win, which is what I think Pittsburgh does. They counted on JR House, JJ Davis, a couple of other guys I may have forgotten about and guys added like Bay and Oliver Perez, and they try to win with that group. If they don't make it, they trade off the expensive parts (Kendall, Giles, etc...) and start all over again. Develop and trade for a bunch of talent that will all gel at the right moment. Tear it down and repeat the process.

Didn't Bruce say his defense looked wonderful so far this spring? Let's say Cedeno struggles and Theriot can't handle SS, what options do the Cubs actually have to replace Izturis if he is hitting 220? Tomas Perez!!!!!!!!!!!!

And even then they may not replace him if Cedeno isn't tearing it up. The guy is making over 4m, so he's going to get his opportunities.

Yeah, even though Cedeno may reach the potential to have an 800 OPS season, it's not a fair projection for him in his first full season in the majors.

The White Sox team is one in a perfect position to fall off a cliff. I think Seattle is better than they give them credit for as well. i agree, but that's quite a nose-dive to take in one year with no huge turnover on the roster. The White Sox might be the toughest team to predict. Not only are they in the toughest division in baseball, they seem like they are in a state of transition. They brought in a bunch of youngsters, but a lot of them won't help right away. But, they also have a few aging stars that aren't getting any younger.
