  1. If you don't get it back, I suggest trying a William Hung/Mike Ditka. If I'm going gimmick, I may try to learn it in sign language between now and then.... or else hold up poster boards with the words as I smile really big. But the Mike Ditka idea is a possibility. do it bob dylan style, dropping the cue cards one by one. i'd vote for that.
  2. i didn't think that, since I'd heard Schill's comments already. but yeah... i immediately noticed the wording :)
  3. i've already been sold on the guy for a long time. Still will not get my hopes up, it would be too awesome, and Hendry doesn't usually do awesome things. I don't know about that. He's come up big with mid-season trades... yes true, Ramirez/Lofton was great, and Nomar was insanely awesome at the time it happened. Right and quite honestly those were the only times we had a chance to go to the playoffs. Both times he came through... At the time though, those holes were huge and Hendry knew it. This year he seems to be okay with Pagan/Floyd in the OF. And he has a qustionable amt. of money for next year Do you really think he's ok with floyd\Pagan? C'mon! The only thing holding him back is the sale of the Cubss I do actually. Hendry likes Floyd alot -- he's one "his guys." They're not great and he probably understands that -- hut I doubt he sees them as significant holes, though. i agree that it's the Next Year $ tha's playing the biggest part

  5. who was it that was "reportedly" seen at the Cincy airport coming to chicago a few years ago? Kearns? Dunn? Weathers, even? the trading deadline is fun, that's hard to deny. (or in the spirit of the week, I should say, "The reports about the deadline being fun are utterly baseless. Meaningless speculation.")
  6. and who didn't have a great year on that Sox staff... everyone was pitching out of their mind. That was even Neal Cotts stud year.
  7. I agree with your first point, but am unconvinced of the second. ;) major league GMs will never stop surprising me...
  8. would dye be a rental? If Jones is gotten rid of (if JH is determined), and Murton is traded (perhaps for Dye?), wouldn't the Cubs make a good run at bringing him back? of course, that all depends (or should, at least) on whether Murton is around next spring.
  9. I'll be one of the "Cedeno1's". His #'s deserve him atleast another chance. "deserve him" another chance? off to the TOEFL for you. I hate having to keep explaining this and have people keep picking on me for childish reasons. But I have OCD. Which means I write things entirely inappropriately just for the reason my mind tells me I simply have to. If you want to further make fun of this disease please go right on ahead. I'll suffer at the expense of your amusement. that's the first I've heard of it. i'm sorry for whatever difficulties/challenges you have, but that kind of response really isn't fair. No one's picking on you because of that, so it's not fair to accuse them of it. edit: and I don't mean to pry or accuse you of dishonesty, but what kind of OCD does this to you? I'm genuinely curious, if you don't mind.
  10. Seriously, I hope the Wrigley fans give him a 10 minute standing ovation the first day he takes the mound. Sadly, it will probably be the opposite. I doubt it. Kerry Wood is probably the most universally loved player the Cubs have had since Sandberg I was out by the players parking lot during a game in 2005 waiting for players to come out. The first player to come out was a disabled Kerry Wood. When he walked out, a guy yells "KERRY WOOD GET THE HELL OUT OF CHICAGO YOU BUM!" and then the rest of the crowd, almost if on cue started a long, loud booing. Kerry pretended like he didn't notice it, but you could see it in his eyes that he did. Experiences like that make me wonder why he said that he owed it to the fans to come back this season. that's a really upsetting story. i can understand being frustrated and dissapointed by the guy... but yelling angrily at him? even booing him? to his face? that's classless, and the fact the Kerry can see through it to his true fans speaks a lot about his character, I think.
  11. the fact that we have three solid pitchers competing for that 3rd spot is good sign, rather trying to pick the best of the worst. also, it's a good sign for the cubs that we're even talking about a playoff roster nearly four months into the season.
  12. don't mind that lineup. though i may have been okay with any lineup with Lee in it at this point
  13. The Cubs are much more freely spending money than in the past -- i.e. there's more cash available. For that reason, my irrational Cub-brain wants to continue to pay Mark Prior 2 million-ish dollars through his mid-30s, playing or not. For the sole reason to prevent him from "figuring it out" with another team . . . Like I said, Irrational. but that's my gut feeling.
  14. I don't know why coaches and umpires in the field don't wear helmets. The runners have to. It certainly seems reasonable. that inconsistency had never occured to me somehow... that's a very good point. Perhaps some good can come from this tragedy, by focusing some attention on that idea.
  15. do you think ke had second thoughts about coming out with this prediction, knowing how dumb everyone would later think it is?
  16. that describes just about every pitcher in the game except for the top tier elite. even chris young wasn't amazing for his first 5 starts. though he hasn't had a bad start in weeks. so is zambrano, let's trade him too shhhh.... he's reading this you know
  17. Nope. Just off the top of my head, Larry Walker has to have more than Stairs. Yeah, about 150 more I think. He was close to closing in on 400. probably shouldn't get off topic... but, Does Larry get into the Hall someday? link Real solid HR numbers (383; high of 49) coupled with a career .313/.400/.565 and a 140 OPS+. 7-time Gold Glove winner. An MVP award. And 3 batting titles in 4 years (there's your dominance right there.) edit: I guess it seems pretty clear to me. I just hadn't heard any mention of his chances before.
  18. That's a good point, one that makes ESPN's (albeit quite entertaining) ad campain seem pretty ironic. The players work in the ESPN office... they're all "employees" :)
  19. ... and add that to the fact that the Pitching market is very weak right now -- think Matt Morris or Contreras. Thus the cost will be great, too. I'll be quite disappointed if JH goes hard after a SP.
  20. It probably seemed like ESPN showed it because I remember BBTN was giving updates over and over. I have a feeling it was like a Monday night game or something though. Sunday, actually, according to the commentators. That was one incredible game. thanks for the link!
  21. Everytime you hear about someone losing self-control in gambling, the "monetary motivation" seems to not be much of a factor. It's the Gambler's Rush, or whatever. Maybe that's just anecdotal, but that's what you always seem to hear.
  22. Same way, here. In fact, I couldn't even get into the Cesar trade as much as I predicted I would have . . . it's all about winning! Wait.... are you suggesting..... that winning breeds chemistry ??? you tell me, statman. what's our chemistry/game since Lou fired up the troops in june 3rd by kicking his hat 3 times? :) When Jacques Jones has a .921 OPS over the last 7 games, and that's only good for 8th best on the team....... you know that chemistry coefficient is off the charts, no? blah blah blah OPS blah blah!! Just tell me, dammit: are they having fun together, enjoying eachother's company, carpooling to the stadium? Ya know, CHEMISTRY.
