  1. Do you think the Cubs are an Abreu away from winning the World Series in the next couple years?
  2. Pujols hit .329/.403/.610 in his first season, a better OPS+ than Abreu has ever posted in his career. Do you expect those numbers from Pie in his first year in the bigs? Do you expect Pie to be a 30/30 guy with an OBP of 330+? In his first year do you expect pie to have a SLG of even cloes to .500? If so, when do you expect him to be and everyday MLer? Abreu brings all that right now. And how does this relates to your incorrect statement about Abreu being a better hitter than Pujols at the start of Albert's career? It doesn't but this thread is not about any incorrect comparison I made to Albert and Abreu it is about the idea of trading Pie. I didn't know you where that much into pissing contests. A pissing contest? That's great. You're the one that brought Albert's rookie production into this, and your incorrect statement seemed directed at dismissing Pie's chances at being an impact bat his rookie season.

Abreu brings all that right now. Nobody expected those numbers from Pujols in his first year. Can you imagine the backlash if the Cards had traded Albert for a proven difference maker a few years past his peak?

  6. Pie has more than 1/2 of a good pro season. He was good in 2004 and was pretty good in 2003. He also had a great debut in rookie ball. You could say he's only had 1/2 a great season above rookie ball. But that's hardly a knock. Plus, Pie's resume is pretty similar to Cabrerra as of this stage in their respective careers. Pie has also been very young for every level of play, one of the key signs of potential greatness.
  7. You're close. Correct. 4/7, 4/8 & 4/9 are prime dates - Cubs home opening weekend, I guess. 5/26, 5/27, 5/28, 5/29, 5/30 & 5/31 are all regular dates. 6/15 Hou - prime date 6/28, 6/29 Mil - prime date
  8. 44 - 31 - 6 overall. 31 - 24 - 0 for weekends/nights/holidays.
  9. I have the Part-Time plan -- all weekend, night and holiday games, so I never have a conflict with work, and I live a couple miles from the ballpark. I've sold 15-20 games a season to family and friends the past couple years, but that's more because of how hard it's been to get tickets than a desire not to go on my part.
  10. Here are the 2006 prices for prime, regular and value dates: Club Box IF $65 $54 $34 Club Box OF $54 $43 $22 Field Box IF $54 $43 $22 Field Box OF $50 $41 $20 Terrace Box IF $46 $38 $18 Terrace Box OF $40 $34 $17 Upper Deck Box IF $46 $38 $18 Upper Deck Box OF $40 $34 $17 Terrace Reserved IF $32 $22 $11 Terrace Reserved OF $28 $20 $10 Upper Deck Reserved IF $18 $14 $7 Upper Deck Reserved OF $17 $14 $6 Bleacher (General Admission) $40 $30 $15
  11. From my season ticket renewal letter dated 11/16/05: "Our Season Ticket base is at its maximum limit. We currently have a waiting list exceeding 7,000 to purchase season tickets. We need to know your intentions by December 15."
  12. Again, if you didn't hear it or read yourself -- this time Gammons reporting it on ESPN radio -- please do not post it in the thread title.
  13. You don't win at baseball by trading away your stars. Whether or not Pie's a future star is up to Hendry and Co. to evaluate, and I do think they've done a pretty good job at evaluating who to trade and who not -- outside of Willis, of course. And Sisco. They definately should've protected Andy on the 40-man in hindsight, but they didn't trade him away, and I have my doubts that he'll turn into a star.

  15. I'd set the line at 18/1 that Pie becomes a 5 time all star or better. Abreu's been an All Star twice in nine seasons. Seems like a silly measuring stick to me. Good point - how about finish in the top 3 in VORP for his position for at least 5 years? What's the point of your question? Does Pie have to turn into a HOF worthy player to make trading him a questionable idea?

  17. Please don't call board members stupid. You can express your opinion and say you think it was a stupid thing to complain about, but calling them stupid crosses the line. I think this logic is stupid. It can be used to justify the most offensive of topics. "If you don't like the KKK, just don't click on the thread."
  18. The Cubs have a long way to go to follow that model from a talent development standpoint.
  19. After 2008 when he's a free agent most likely. He'll probably ask every offseason to be posted until then, and the Lions probably will keep saying no.
  20. He's only had one good season now? What sources are you using to evaluate Pie? He was a top 20 prospect the last time Baseball America did their rankings. I don't see how anything I've said has overvalued him.
  21. I think you're underestimating how impressive a 903 OPS for a 20-year-old at AA is. Its a good job, and I don't think anyone is doubting his value. It seemed to me that DivineBovie was. Pie had a .900+ OPS in 240 ABs. Yeah, half a season, 59 games. Still a very impressive performance given his age and level.

  24. that actually did happen, though they ended up deleting everything almost immediately after. Yeah, a warning was posted, and that was quickly followed by a number of comments mocking that warning.
  25. Fair enough. There's plenty of disappointment to go around.
