  1. I agree from a range standpoint but Pie's the only one with the arm for right.
  2. Nobody this offseason most likely. Links: Premium Regular
  3. No need to use asterisks in your profanity. We don't employ word censors here because we trust our members to adhere to the rules. I like being able to write the Cubs' bench coach's name without it being blocked. Do everybody a favor and help us keep the word censors off.
  4. After this post, right? I'd like to go but the holidays and season tickets are eating up all my disposable income at the moment. Hopefully, some tickets will be available in the springtime, especially if Japan and Cuba both make the semifinals.
  5. I just voted for him. Not seeing too many Urlacher is overrated remarks this season.
  6. If the search wasn't disabled I would find you the thread where we discussed Guzman's velocity. He was clocked at 97 late in his rehab this year. From BA's 2005 AFL preview (last year): BOUNCING BACK: Angel Guzman, rhp, Cubs Guzman was pushing for a big league job in 2003, but his balky shoulder has stalled his progress. He had arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight labrum tear, and the Cubs handled him cautiously in 2004, shutting him down in July because he tired after working nonstop during his rehab. Guzman didn't make his 2005 debut until early August due to forearm stiffness, and he pitched just 18 innings overall. While his durability is in question, so is Guzman’s stuff, and the Cubs will want to see if his 91-96 mph fastball will ever come back to its 2003 form. From BA's Top 10 Cubs prospects (last week):
  7. Some people like to hurl blanket insults about to make their points. I can't stand it either. Hey, we're only talking about baseball here. It's up to you if you take things personally. Now that was a good idea.
  8. Some people like to hurl blanket insults about to make their points. I can't stand it either.
  9. I don't think that's an option for teams.
  10. Reads like those players have offered to play, but they haven't been selected yet.
  11. Castro says Cuba to play in World Classic Sweet.

tewtWho are you calling a tewt?
  13. Who's stupid now? If you can't make your point without including an insult, I strongly suggest you don't make it at all.
  14. Matsuzaka? No, he won't be a free agent until after the 2007 season. So the oldest he'll be his first year in the major is 27. Seibu would be best served to post him after the 2006 season.
  15. Sankei Sports reported this week that Matsuzaka is threatening to sit out in 2006 if Seibu won't post him this offseason. Matsuzaka feels he pitched "well enough" to be posted after the Lions said they would if he pitched well. I still think it's a super long shot for him to be posted.
  16. The Cubs system is not what it was three years ago but Pie would be the top prospect in a lot of systems. BA had him ranked 17th overall the last time they did their rankings. I agree about signing Giles.
  17. I think signing Giles makes a heck of a lot more sense than trading away your best prospect, and I have a feeling that Hendry has as much interest in trading Pie for Abreu as he does for signing Giles.
  18. Do you think the Cubs are an Abreu away from winning the World Series in the next couple years? Yes. It wouldn't guarantee, but it's the closest thing to it. The Cubs have been a top pitching team in 2 of the past 3 years. They've been a mediocre or worse hitting team every year. An impact RF to go along with Aramis, Lee, Barrett and whatever top of the order player Hendry gets (assuming that player is competent) would put them as close to the WS as any team in the NL. Is the difference between Giles and Abreu over the next couple seasons worth giving up Pie?
  19. I'd understand Hendry's thinking if he included Pie as part of a package for Abreu, but I don't think Bobby would make them favorites, and I'd much rather see them sign Giles and hang on to Pie. So much is up in the air in terms of the Cubs outfield right now, I have no idea when Pie will be up.
