  1. That's correct. I'd do it, but I don't think Bulls management would.
  2. The Bulls would never do it because he's radioactive at this point, but I think their quickest path to going for it could be to trade for Gilbert Arenas, assuming he's 100% healthy. They have the cap space open and the Wizards would love to get rid of him. He'd come to Chicago angry and embarrassed with a lot to prove, and I don't think there's a more talented SG option out there at this point.
  3. [expletive].
  4. D'oh. That sucks, Vance. Bad timing.
  5. There was a list 8 or 9 years ago? I walked in off the street when I picked out my seats in 2000. I thought the list didn't happen until after 2003. Anyway, congrats -- and ha ha to the rest of you suckers.
  6. http://www.npbtracker.com/2009/09/npb-bullet-points-nichibei-special/ More noise about Kikuchi waffling between NBP and MLB: http://www.npbtracker.com/2009/09/kikuchi-rocks-the-draft/ My favorite quote to date, "there has not been a high school player who directly went to the MLB without going through the NPB, so there is a part of me that wants to be the pioneer."
  7. Here's one: http://baseballguru.com/jalbright/analysisjalbright19.html I suspect there have been more predictive ones put together since.

  10. I'm not sure how you'd measure the level of Bradley hate, but your anecdotal evidence doesn't sway me.
  11. Yeah, I also don't hate Bradley. I suspect it might be a vocal minority that does all the hating.
  12. We can talk about that three years from now if Castro's repeating AAA for the second time.
  13. Sure, Castro has similar tools and a similar ceiling to what Cedeno had at 19, but I think it's fair to feel better about his chances of reaching that ceiling given his performance at AA this year.
  14. Cedeno was two years older than Castro when he played AA ball.
  15. I know. But he'll be four years removed from Koshien when/if he signs with an MLB team. Maybe that doesn't matter. I know he's still a media darling. But I can't help but suspect the outrage/astonishment would have been more pronounced had he jumped to MLB immediately after high school.
  16. Agreed. Saito is a good bet to be the next Japanese player to opt out of the NPB draft. And there will be angry rumblings about it from NPB teams if it happens. But nothing like there would be if a Koshien darling like Kikuchi signed with an MLB team immediately out of high school.

  18. I haven't seen anything else along those lines but it wouldn't surprise me.
  19. Yeah, there was a blurb on East Windup Chronicle about the Korean League thinking about taking steps to stop the outflow of Korean prospects. I believe the quote even mentioned the key being to "stop the Cubs" -- which was awesome.
  20. Yep, here's that rule: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/rss/sb20081010j1.html So it's not a lifetime ban.
  21. There was a lot of protectionist noise from the NPB side. I think they might've even created a rule that bans players who sign with MLB teams without playing in NPB first from ever playing in NPB, but I'm not positive. I'm not sure that would bother a kid determined to play in MLB from the start anyway.
  22. No doubt. That's a big reason why it's never happened before. That said, I don't think there's a rule on the books that would prevent him from signing with an MLB team. So while I'd be shocked if Kikuchi were the first, I do think it will happen at some point. The talent is there and MLB teams have a huge economic advantage.
  23. The Cubs might be scouting Yusei Kikuchi. Here's a blurb from NPB tracker about his latest start at Koshein and the interest he's generating from pro teams on both sides of the Pacific. He turned 18 in June. http://www.npbtracker.com/2009/08/kikuchis-latest-koshien-win/ I share Patrick's skepticism about him signing with an MLB team. But I suspect it has to happen at some point. Might as well be now and with the Cubs, right?
