  2. If they go into the draft then their services won't go through a bidding process. In other words, it'll keep their potential earnings from jumping straight to the US down. There would be less financial incentives for them to come over before playing in Japan. Does it completely block the stream? No, but it keeps from too many coming over. Only the uber elite prospects who would be top five round material would come over. Honestly, that's one or two players a year. NPB draft has a cap of like 150k. 150k slot is 5th to 6th round. Couple this with an agreement by NPB to raise the maximum signing bonus to between 200k and 250k, then we're looking only at top three round material. Ah, so you're trying to figure out a way to stem the potential tide of Japanese talent bypassing NPB in favor of MLB. You're not the only one. http://www.japanball.com/news.phtml?id=13140
  3. Are you married? I figured that would be the response. No, I'm not, and I would expect anyone who has a significant other that means something to them to not give my question a second thought. I pretty much knew you weren't when you asked the question. I originally phrased my response as "Not married, huh?" If my wife were that sick, I'd be selling my world series tickets to pay medical bills and woundn't be watching any baseball games.
  4. It's a shame this topic can't be discussed without the thread devolving into a flame war.
  5. Yeah, this is the 9th season I've had season tickets. But you could've got them in 2004...
  6. This must hurt even more.
  7. This post makes me really sad. Like rubbing salt in wounds without even realizing it. I basically didn't go on vacation in my 20's after getting them to afford them. Of course, that's when I lived right by the ballpark and insisted on attending 40+ games a season.
  8. I don't think there was a wait list until after the 2003 season.
  9. Since the 2000 season. I had to wait a few hours on a weekday in January 2000 to get them. There wasn't a waiting list at the time. The ticket rep gave me my pick of three different seat locations. Got to run around the park and sit in them before making up my mind.
  10. I also received my shipment notification email. Should be delivered tomorrow.
  11. What are you trying to resolve with your proposed solution?
  12. There's a gentleman's agreement between MLB and NPB teams not to go after players that have been drafted by a team in either league. Tazawa hasn't been drafted yet, and even if he were drafted by an NPB team, I don't think there's any official rule in place that would prevent him from signing with an MLB team instead of the team that drafted him.
  13. Not a lot of precedent for three games being made up after the season, but lots of precedent for teams clinching early and pitching minor leaguers down the stretch to set their rotations for the playoff. Don't see how this hypothetical scenario would be any different. But it doesn't look like it's going to be necessary anyway.
  14. If the Cubs have clinched HFA, why would they throw any of their starters on the playoff roster?
  15. I attended a couple Cubs series in Cincinnati last year and didn't pay more than $10 to park two, three blocks away from the park for weekend games. I wouldn't stress about finding parking close by.
  16. Man, all you people are going to be in my way when I try to enter the park.
  17. Looks like the Cubs have signed another kid out of Korea, OF Ha Jae-hoon. http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2892949
  18. I've always enjoyed reading your evaluations of players currently playing in Japan. Perhaps an evaluation of this year's free agent/potential posting class? Uehara, Darvish, Aoki etc.
  19. The question in the thread title is my guess.
  20. No, they should've built it in the South Loop.

  22. Well, judging by the umpires' reaction, I suspect any rules out there to deal with this are murky at best. I love it.
  23. Doesn't he declare which arm he's going to pitch with by pitching a ball?
