  1. I was just thinking the exact same thing on my way home from work!
  2. Oh my god, how could they not pick it up. Who cares if it would make Twalk cry! Michael Aubrey does not impress me all that much for some reason.
  3. I would be interested in Fernando Cabrera. Is Phillips really in their plans in the next couple years? They gave him the job in 2003 and he failed pretty bad. I definately don't think he is the kind of guy that would block them from bringing in a proven commodity at 2b.
  4. Why do they think Konerko, 29, only has two good years left?
  5. hmmm It would be pretty interesting to see what Cashman could do without a 200+ million dollar payroll and an owner that isn't looking over his shoulder 100% of the time.
  6. In this sim league I am in, a friend of mine dropped this guy to pick up Sandy Alomar Jr. last year.
  7. In 2000, Antonio Alfonseca was 45/49 in save opportunites. His peripherals indicated that he wasn't as good as his save numbers indicated. Those peripherals proved to be predictive. In 2001, he was 28/44 and in 2002 he as 19/28. While I hope Dempster is as good as his 33/35 might lead some to believe, there is enough reason to be concerned. Just out of curiosity (this is a dead-horse argument), which of Dempster's peripherals worry you? His walks. Yeah they trouble me as well. But his K rate helps to negate some of my worries about his control. I also like that he only allowed 1 HR in relief, getting lots of groundball outs. But, being a Cubs fan, I'm worried too. The problem with that is his K rate was nothing all that special. Once he left the rotation he only K'd 8.18 batters per 9 innings. Compare that to some of the current elite closers: K Rod 12.19/9 Lidge 12.09/9 Nathan 13.12 Ryan 12.80 Wagner 10.08 F. Cordero 10.30 Farnsworth 11.19 I want my closer to blow batters away like these guys. Dempster had an absolutely great year but he worries me for sure, especially since we are stuck with him for a while. Dempster just doesnt have the nasty stuff that a guy like Lidge or BJ Ryan has.[/i]
  8. Why does Adam Kennedy bat 9th and Orlando Cabrera bat 2nd?
  9. Len for GM!
  10. If the white sox won at least that tool Guillen would supposedly quit.
  11. When ND Stadium was rebuilt they sold their bricks. I paid $50 for mine, and it came with a COA. Also Soldier field sold their seats. I have seen the W/L Flags that fly after the games being sold in MLB auctions. Does anyone else know of any stadium pieces that have been sold by it's respective organization? Oh yea, if there is a brick "borrowing" mission I would pay whatever the going price is. My uncle has a couple of wrigley's box seats that they sold awhile back for some reason. No idea how much he paid.
  12. That would be alright, although I'm not a big furcal fan. I also don't understand the point in predicting RBI's(not to mention a closers record, heck a starters record even) I would think Ramirez and Giles would have more with lee, furcal, and walker hitting in front of them. I'd rather go a different route at SS, but I would be pretty happy if that is the offseason. I don't see any way Rusch has that good an ERA, and I really hope that Kerry can finally stay healthy for a year. PS- you probably need a new sig. PPS- there is no IR in baseball
  13. "Young people can kind of do things in this life." I found this quote from Tom Hicks to be hilarious.
  14. I was thinking the exact same thing. Next year I will accept the fact that he is our manager but I don't know if I can handle much more than that.
  15. While trying to look at some historic Cub leadoff hitters, I stumbled onto this puzzling tidbit. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/1929.shtml You can check out the world series box scores. Guess who they have hitting first and second. Yeah thats right McMillan and English, the guys with the worst OPS+ in the starting lineup. McMillan had the worst OBP on the team and he was leading off for crying out loud! Of course they had no idea what OBP was but McMillan and English still had quite pedestrian batting averages. Cuyler would have made an excellent leadoff hitter. EDIT: The manager of that team was Joe McCarthy who went on to win 7 world series with the Yankees.
  16. Only if Furcal's OBP goes up from his 2005 figures.. Who's better and available? Some might say a certain backwards Ramon.
  17. Three words: Clemens, Pettite, Oswalt.
  18. I hope that was the last time I will ever see Macias in a Cubs jersey.
  19. That would really suprise me, but it would be a welcome surprise.
  20. I thought there was a mutual option that would automatically vest if 400 innings were reached.
  21. It may be a little early to discuss this but what kind of season does everyone think Kerry needs to have in order for the Cubs to pick up his option? Obviously, requirement number one would be for him to start just about every game without any health concerns whatsoever. I think as long as he is used as a starter and stays healthy the entire year they will most likely pick up his option and I think for Kerry to not pick it up would require a very awesome Cy Young type year which is fairly unlikely to happen.
  22. That's cause the league doesn't know him yet. Once the league knows him, he will be lucky to get a double. Do you think this information is in some sort of "book" or something?
  23. couple questions Do the Cubs have an option on Williamson or is he a free agent and if they have an option what is it for? And what setup type guys are on the market this offseason, either through a trade or free agency?
  24. Now that I'll agree with. We could have matched or bettered either offer and still not taken a big hit with our young players. Especially for Mulder. We should have at least made a few offers for Mulder in order to drive the price up for the Cardinals. Sometimes you don't have to trade for the player... just make the other guys pay too much. Disagree here, what major league ready pitcher and stud hitting prospect could the Cubs have countered with (especially that weren't lined up for a big payday)? Cards paid too much with this trade as it was. I was thinking the same thing. What was it Barton, Calero, and Haren? We would have had to trade Pie, someone like Hill, then add mitre and probably another minor league arm to even come close to matching that. Anyone else find it awesome that the A's appear to have killed the cards in that trade? Haren has had a better year than Mulder in my mind.
  25. I dont really understand why his K rate is down SO much. I understand that the move to the majors is a big move but it was over 11/9 in his minor league career.
