  1. The Phils want a top of the line rotation guy (or two) back for Abreu. They're in win now mode, and I don't think are primarily concerned with prospects. I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking to dump Bell in the same move.. this doesn't feel like a fit for the Cubs. what makes Brandon Backe or Chin Wang any more of a top of the line starting pitcher than Jerome Williams?
  2. I know he was awful last year defensively but wasn't he always pretty mediocre?
  3. Is it possible for Jay to write an article without using the word "tribsters"?
  4. what the heck are these shorts all about?
  5. I don't see it as possible. What amazes me is that Furcal just got a deal that pays him more/same per year as Miggy.
  6. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/huffau01.shtml Those numbers bear out that he's decidedly subpar. BP2005 categorizes him as a "high-quality hitter with a low-quality glove". And STATS and most scouts I've seen say he's perfectly adequate. BP is, well - BP. Consider the source. I never said that BP was gospel, but it's not garbage either, and certainly not myth. BP does take a very scientific approach to analysis which eliminates emotional bias. And human observation. human observation that can be extremely swayed by emotional bias

  8. Agree'd. Why trade MAX VALUE for MAX VALUE. Especially when you are trading a well loved Cubs player (the fans and team loves him). . If Derrick got 5/60 (12 a year) he is worth that and I want him hear for 5 more years. Fair enough. And of course gms have to take the fans feelings into account so as to not alienate them but imo there are many other things that must be considered first. To answer your Konerko question I don't think I can answer it. If that is what some team is willing to pay him on the open market then I suppose it is what he is worth. I would personally look for cheaper options first.

If Derrick got 5/60 (12 a year) he is worth that and I want him hear for 5 more years. That is party due to the fact that you, as most fans do, think with your heart instead of your head. And I don't mean that as an insult, it is just the truth.
  10. If we were to offer 5/50, the last year vesting on some type of plate appearance requirements and maybe some extra cash incentives of some kind, I wouldnt think he would take 3/40 but I could be wrong. Any thoughts? If we lose out on Furcal I would still be very happy with a Cedeno/Walker middle infield if we really improved cf/rf with Bradley and someone like Dunn. How likely improvements like that could be accomplished is another story.
  11. I think it is a no brainer to feel out some possibilities for a lee trade. And to all of those who immediately bash this thread, the guy is not saying trade him for crap, he is saying if you can get great value for him you pull the trigger! All that said there is no way Hendry feels this way.
  12. dangit, I was going to put Veal in the bottom of my list but I forgot. It seems that BA really has a thing for recent high round draftees and with the numbers he put up I think it would be no surpise to see him between 8-10
  13. 1 Felix Pie +10 +10 2 Rich Hill +10 +6 3 Ryan Harvey +10 +4 4 Sean Marshall +10 +7 5 Mark Pawalek +10 +6 6 Renyal Pinto 7 Brian Dopirak +10 +7 8 Ricky Nolasco +10 +8 9 Ronny Cedeno +10 +3 10 Donald Veal 131
  14. we will all have to commit suicide on hendry's doorstep i know i will at least I'm with you. Where does he live?
  15. I sign Furcal Trade for Dunn Trade for Vazquez and Quentin Trade for Bradley Lineup Furcal Walker Lee Dunn Ramirez Bradley Quentin Barrett Rotation Zambrano Prior Wood Vazquez Williams Bullpen Dempster Howry Eyre Novoa Rusch someone edit- I know I didnt explain who i am trading but that is because I dont really feel like thinking about it.
  16. The White Sox might have had the most drastic set of changes of any team out there. That move to gangsta inspired black and white was a major change. And both Philly and the Pirates have had major overhauls. I hope its not against the law to post a WSI link here  White Sox jersey history
  17. Oh man I can't wait to see the "ball and glove" in action. That is definately my favorite logo of all time. Wow, I didn't realize it wasn't used since 93
  18. Wrong wrong wrong. Look at the Red Sox of 03, with the closer by comittee. Then they fail horribly, realize they need a closer, sign Foulke, and win the World Series. Houston had Lidge. St. Louis has Isringhausen, White Sox had Hermanson/Jenks. The truth is that having a great closer and setup man shortens the game to 7 or 8 innings. Also, did you know that Hoffman has more saves than Mariano Rivera in less opportunities? Wagner is in that upper tier as well, either one is worth at least 3/30 to me. Wagner I'd go 4/40 without hesitation due to being younger. For what it's worth, it wasn't necessarily the idea that was bad, it was the awful relievers that they tried to implement the idea with. I think bringing your best reliever into the game in the most important spot, be it the 7th, 8th, 9th, or 5th is a great idea.
  19. Are you sure you want to give out another big long contract to a relief pitcher who (based on some work done on this board) had a real lucky year last year? I'm talking about Howry by the way.
  20. None of them could come with CQ. I know i'm being overly hopeful but I love the guy. Also Millwood and Burnett would take a lot more money than that and I'm not sure Millwood is even a solid bet to perform better than Vazquez over the two years.
