  1. I don't know how much more of this Quentin-ing I can take. Walker/Patterson for Giles aquire Bradley from LA somehow since they are so determined to get rid of him Lee/Rusch for Webb/Tracy/Quentin sign Brian Giles and a couple Bullpen guys resign Nomar if he signs cheap, Cedeno as backup plan. Giles Bradley Giles Ramirez Garciaparra Tracey Quentin Barrett Zambrano Prior Webb Wood Williams Dempster ? Novoa Ohman Wuertz ? Not sure what it would take for Bradley but just thought Id throw it out there since he was mentioned in the article. Quentin might be able to play center and then Murton would get a chance to earn a starting role. This team with health would have a great shot to win a championship in my mind.
  2. Would you rather do a job in which you get paid 8-10 million dollars a year or one in which you get paid 2-4 million dollars a year? Whatever role he fills, he will get paid closer money, and therefor would not be worth it to have in any other role.
  3. I was at a game this summer and my girlfriend, who is a redhead w/very fair skin forgot to bring sunscreen. Around the 5th inning you could see her turning bright red so I went to get her some sunscreen...$15.00!!! It was for a small bottle also. I know everything is expensive there but 1 small bottle of sunscreen>2 oldstyles, thats just not right. Also I hope they don't go shirtless like Harry used too. :-s I do. Ooh la laa.
  4. Come on man, you really have to improve that IsoD.
  5. So is the rivalry "bs" or is it something that will benefit us? I think your two paragraphs somewhat contradict each other Personally, I want the sox to lose mainly because of a friend of mine that goes on and on about ozzie ball and how it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, not to mention some retribution for his behavior after the '03 playoffs.
  6. ... not all muscles contract at the same speed. Whether or not he coined the term, it's a valid concept. fast and slow twitch muscle fibers
  7. If this happens then poor Carlos Quentin and Conor Jackson, not to mention Stephen Drew.
  8. I am suprised nobody has mentioned Andy Sisco, even though he is not technically an ex-cub. 69.1 IP 58 hits 39 walks 70 k's 2.60 ERA A lot of walks but still an awesome year considering the fact that he hadn't pitched above A ball. It will be interesting to see what the Royals do with him next year. He has shown that he deserves a chance to be in their pen but his talent would probably be better utilized if they sent him down to the minors to get him working as a starter again.
  9. Len, Thanks for answering our questions! I hope you stay with the Cubs for a long time! One quick question. Are you a Packers fan? I am a huge Packers and Cubs fan and people usually find it very odd.
  10. No way he comes that cheap. I dont know, I wouldnt necessarily say that. Id compare Dempster as a closer to an inexperienced poor mans Wickman (at the time he signed his contract in 2002), who after his first four years as a closer (25, 37, 30, 32 saves) got a 3 yr 16M contract. I am pretty sure the Ryan that he is talking about is BJ
  11. Kent  Nice Avatar!
  12. My dad (a brewer fan) was so mad when they made that trade because of Lee's reputation as a selfish jerk and the intangables that pods brought. I don't like intangables. Also, ironically enough, he was upset because the backend of the bullpen (kolb and vizcaino) was traded away. I know earlier in the year they had one of the better (albeit comprised of unknowns) bullpens in the league.
  13. I bet a team with nine Dave Kingmans in his best year ('79) would score a TON of runs.
  14. Of course he wants the cubs to keep Dusty! Why would he want his principal rivals to have a manager with at least half a brain?
  15. I live in DeKalb!!!!!
  16. Yeah I would say he would be in as a brave no doubt. His hall of fame type season were basically his last 5 with the cubs and the first 10 with the braves.
  17. I would add a high pitching prospect to pie to get that deal done. Ditto Carlos Quentin
  18. wow 97! Either Brenly was way off or the gun is way off.
  19. Last year I trade Jody Gerut, Ray Durham and Shawn Chacon for Johan Santana right before he dominated and Jimmy Rollins. If only Maggs wasnt my main offensive player and Javier Vazquez wouldnt have had an awful second half I would have won instead of finishing second.
  20. yeah If it were a fantasy league Barmes would have value but its a simulation league so, since I play in Dodgers stadium, Barmes would most likely not project to hit very well.
  21. I would say Cabrera has no chance because the MLB is all about earning your respect over the years and Cabrera is what, 22? Way too young to actually get the recognition he deserves. Not to mention his defense is pretty bad if I recall.
  22. Its not so much that we hate Neifi or the fact that he does occasionally play over his head, its more or less that it is a fact that he is an awful hitter. His career ops+ is 63 and this year his obp is .284 which is BAD. As a late inning defensive replacement and a backup shortstop I dont mind him at all and when he does start and bats 8th its not so bad, but half the year leading off or in the two hole is not where he should be. So yes we hate how he is used but we do not hate him.
  23. I am not in a fantasy league but a simulation league that runs on Diamond Mind and we have a salary system in place. I really want to move Barmes because his home/road splits are pretty bad being a rockie, but the problem is he doesnt have much of a market for the same reason I would like to move him. At this point the best I could get for him is Lew Ford on a cheap long term contract. Can anyone who knows how the dmb projections work better than I do give me any idea as to how Barmes will project next year or how they feel he will turn out as a player, because I highly doubt he will be a .300+ hitter over his career. Obviously a ss has more value than a corner of/dh with little power, but Ford would be pretty valuable if he has any of last year left in him.
