I'm surprised the Cubs scored only three runs, this Cardinals' staff is tailor made for them to crush. Unless they make some changes I really don't see the Cardinals faring much better in the remaining season series. Watched the condensed game yeah, they should have scored a lot more runs. Bowling league Burleson had the defensive series of his life. My guess, is sporting a lifetime negative defensive war, we won't see a repeat performance against the Cubs. But, man, it's annoying, like seeing Castellanos pull those catches out his ass last series in Wrigley.

This series and the season series may have started with a bang for the Cardinals but, it's going to end in a whimper.

Maybe someone else with access to analytical tools can answer this question. Right now he's unable to square up a ball, to me, it appears to be a timing issue more so than the quality of the pitch. In Iowa we saw video of Shaw crushing balls with the same velocity and location however, in the big leagues, he's not. The pressure to perform, Cubs being a good position for the postseason, etc. could be contributing factors in his timing being off.

I meant in their rotation, a guy with some velocity and up side.

Watched the condensed game, awesome the Cubs turned the tables on the Cardinals. Crushed the ball, flashed some leather and just flat out kicked Cardinal ass. Pretty hopeful for today, I've no doubt Cubs will score a bunch of runs, Shota will hold the Cardinals down. If I was a Cardinals fan I'd be worried about the SP, their starters may be softer than the Cubs and that's saying something. The statistics may not back my statement up but, the eye test vs. the Cubs suggest their starters are soft. I don't believe they have the resources to make vast improvements and, right now, they don't have Horton-like type.

Perhaps, I also believe the Cubs, in PCA and Tucker, have the two best players on the field. At some this series you'd think that's going to be a big factor maybe, tonight.

I've no doubt the Cubs will score a bunch of runs, on the whole, the Cardinals' staff is great match up for the Cubs. There isn't anyone on their staff with overpowering stuff, all keep the ball in the zone and down which the Cubs crush. On the other hand, it appears, the Cubs staff is also a great match up for the Cardinals!

Well, they'll be facing more of same, pitching wise, from the Cardinals in the remaining games so, I feel good about the Cubs scoring a bunch of runs. Question is can Boyd and Shota give them some quality starts.

This game is over, can Matt Shaw just square up a ball, once? Give us flash? That's all I ask.

You're right, I will say that guy has little chance of beating the Cubs in the future, Just doesn't have anything over powering and has to count on at-em balls. The low slow stuff is tailor made for the Cubs to crush.

I really don't think so, if left in, they'll get to McGreevy for several more runs.

At the very least this now increases the chances the Cubs will get to tee off on McGreevy.

Remember the Cardinals aren't this good and the Cubs aren't this bad, it'll turn around at some point.

Yeah, I know it sucks, the Cubs will likely get more base runners and he'll be done.

This may mean McGreevy gets more innings, which is good, if PCA gets another chance he may take him deep.

I hope the Cardinals give this guy a couple of more innings, if they do, Cubs may get to double digits.

Shaw just can't square a ball up, that was in his "hot zone" still didn't hit it hard.

Just keep the score manageable, no way this clown they're facing keeps the Cubs off the scoreboard.

Every ball they've hit has been smoked, keep crushing the ball they'll eventually find holes.

It was 98.5 off the bat, unfortunately, it was on the ground. Cubs are going to crush this guy.

Well, they've squared this guy up so far, every ball hit hard, they'll get to him.

I to, am a believer in Shaw, it appears he's hit, and hit well, at every level below MLB. I think that does offer some hope he'll figure it out. Right now what's really discouraging is he's yet to manage a big game with the bat. Even a mightily struggling PCA had a few big days but, I believe those came after a much longer stay in the Big Leagues than Shaw. Tonight might be a night for Shaw, McGreevy doesn't have the stuff to pitch up in the strike zone, I'd also guess Shaw has probably faced McGreevy a few times at Iowa.

From I what a read of McGreevy' profile coupled with the article of Shaw' FB trouble. I believe if the table was ever set for a top prospect - Shaw- to have a random big day it's tonight. The league has been working Shaw high and in with FB's, this guy, topping out at 91, doesn't have enough juice to work up in the strike zone. Working up in the strike zone is exactly opposite of McGreevy wants to do, should set up nicely for Shaw. Top prospects are allowed to a have a big day or two aren't they?

Soft tosser who tries to generate GB's, once again, another guy the Cubs should crush. Busch and PCA should hammer this guy, think even Shaw should hit the ball hard. And Busch should have been in the lineup yesterday, Skubal, Weathers, Luzardo? I can understand but, yesterday? No reason Busch couldn't do something more than Turner.
