    Luzardo is at 50+ pitches, if the Cubs can keep it close and drive up his PC, they'll get to the Phillies BP.

    Really did we expect anything of Brujan? Is realistic to do so? Soon, could Alcantara be an option? Don't know his splits however, I'm certain he'd be more of threat than Brujan has ever been. Guess, then you have to keep Berti.

    Of course, Luzardo coming struggling looks unhittable, Brown coming in hot, may not even get 5 IP out of him. At least the Cubs got a hit off Luzardo, I sincerely doubt they'll come remotely close to scoring a run.

    Was thinking about this, obviously the right call on your part and wrong on my part. Post was more frustration, Horton' not a finished product, good things will come in time.

    Lately Brown' been hot and Luzardo is not, Cubs will win today. Think they'll pick up some ground on someone.

    More frustration on my part, it would be great to see what Horton can do when he's hitting his spots. It's going to happen one of these starts maybe, it'll be against the pissbirds.

    A hot take on my part, just appears he's left less over the middle than Horton and most definitely Abel has more experience.

    Interesting, Abel was taken one pick, #15, before the Cubs took Ed Howard at #16 in 2020. Don't know if anyone can recall if the Cubs would have considered Abel had the Phillies not taken him at 15? As for Howard, injuries and the lack of a hitting tool have really sacked his chances. Don't believe he'll ever sniff the Major Leagues let alone make it to AAA.

    Taking a quick glance of Abel' minor league stats at BR suggests control may have been a problem? Though it appears to have improved over the previous two years, hasn't issued any BB in his two starts. Still, the Cubs need to work the count, get his pitch count up and get to the vulnerable Phillies' bullpen. I'm guessing Abel' stuff is hard FB and slider or curve and change up? I don't think velocity bothers the Cubs all that much, velocity + location - well, that bothers everyone. Just took a quick glance at Abel' pitches at MLB - 5/18 and 6/4 - appears to throw a tick harder than Horton and more important;y doesn't leave a bunch of pitches over the middle of the plate. He already looks like what Horton could be with consistent location. I'm going to bitch - why is other organizations can develop a SP, such as Abel, who is effective but, we Cubs fans have to endure a mistake prone Horton? I guess Assad could qualify as an effective SP the Cubs have developed but, I'm talking about a guy with plus stuff. Sure would be nice if sometime in next few years it could happen. Maybe Wiggins will be that guy.

    I was getting at that is probably near the best he could have done in a, lets face it, toxic environment. No way in the world does Justin or Mitch even comes close to those numbers in the same environment. Caleb' numbers, as you state, were bad enough but, could have been far worse.

    And the Cubs have done OK because of their line up depth but, it won't last. He's got to get going, I think he will, some team is going to pay.

    I still think the lineup is a bat, maybe, two short, but, they'll have the arms to deal.

    Given what we've learned of the gross incompetence surrounding Caleb, I don't think people grasp just how much Caleb was able to accomplish. Sure, there's plenty of negatives to site, there's also plenty on the positive side. I really don't believe any of the QB's in Caleb' class would have been able to put up the same numbers in the same conditions. I think Ben Johnson saw this and realizes Caleb is special, has better tools than Goff, and, knows he can bring Caleb to the next level. Caleb is going to cook this season and he's going to out produce all of Daniels, Maye, Nix and Penix, showing everyone why he is the number one pick.

    Time to kick them when they're down, no Harper, take advantage. Taking advantage would be greatly facilitated by Happ and Tucker getting going, something, anything would help.

    Better than Pressly and I suspect would have been more effective as the closer for Cubs in April. Though Pressly' ineffectiveness may turned out for the best, I've far more confidence in Palencia at the end of the game now.

    Was anyone encouraged that Horton' going to minimize the mistakes today? He sandwiched three pretty effective innings with mistake littered innings. Is too much to expect he's ever going to get it going this year? Still a good thought to keep giving him chances going with a six man rotation when Shota comes back? With his, thus far, apparent inability to consistently execute I don't know if moving Horton to the bullpen would serve the Cubs very well.

    I fully expect Luzardo to right the ship vs the Cubs and that's okay. With both Wheeler and Luzardo if the Cubs stay in those games, get into the Phillies bullpen, they'll win one of them.

    You're probably correct. Currently, his ERA 1.30, I'm thinking it's going to go up, maybe not too much.
