I know everybody wants to crown the Brewers division champs and all but, they're getting a whole lot of production right now from guys who aren't good. Durbin, Collins, Ortiz and to some extent Frelick, we keep talking about the Cubs and the regression monster. At some point it's going to hit the Brewers - hard.

They'll be facing another below average to crappy starter tomorrow so, the runs will come. Only problem is the Astros will also be facing a crappy starter. Maybe, Rea can be less crappy than the Astros starter, it's baseball anything can happen. Can't believe I just wrote that, it's unreasonable to expect anything other than a blow up game from Rea.

Still another dribbler that found a hole but, on the scorecard it looks good.

We'll he didn't hit it hard and got lucky. It just hard watching him almost never square a ball up. But, seriously, all this nonsense about Smith > Shaw is just that, at some point. Quite probably not anytime this season, still nevertheless, at some point, Shaw will start to look like a top prospect. He's hit too well at every level to not, at least, be a competent to good player.

Does it matter? Right now, he couldn't hit a BP FB hard.

Right now, at the plate, a cardboard cutout is > Shaw. His next at bat I'm calling a 70- GB to SS, we'll see.

With Shaw I'd settle for one good game, let alone, a good week. Honestly, right now, it appears the probability of Shaw having a good game is almost zero. That hanger Smith hit, the same pitch, Shaw hits it weakly to RF.

While Horton did a good job on his last start at Wrigley. He's yet to have a dominating game, I'm beginning to wonder if it's going to happen at all this season.

I'm a Shaw believer he might even have a good week or two but, holy horsefeathers, his struggles at the plate are getting tiresome.

The guy superior stuff has no K's while the soft tosser has two.

No reason at all for any of that drama, that horsefeathers BB to Trammell almost cost Horton.

Game 2, who's starting for the Astros? Because outside of Valdez and Brown the rest of their starters don't appear to be imposing. Or, is because, regardless of who the Astros are starting, the Cubs have Rea going for them in second game?

Just asking - Is it allowed for the players the Cubs acquired to have big games vs. their former teams or, is having big games against your former team just reserved for guys the Cubs traded away?

It's only downside with Lugo, with Edward Cabrera or Sandy Alcantara, there are elements of upside.

I was referring to this season, read the article, while the surface numbers suggest he may be okay. Under the hood suggests something different, for a recent example, although not a starter, see Pressly.

Hard pass on Lugo besides, don't the Cubs have plenty of the current version of Lugo in their system? Rea, Flexen, Assad (hopefully, after the break), Noland, Birdsell (him to, after the break) why spend any resources to get another? I'd also look at giving Wicks another shot, who, I believe, recently has been showing well at Iowa.

I don't see how Lugo shouldn't command anything more than a lottery ticket. He doesn't move the needle much for the Cubs, he may be more reliable than say, a Ben Brown, and perhaps, slightly better than Rea. Jed can and should do much better.

I'm surprised the Cubs scored only three runs, this Cardinals' staff is tailor made for them to crush. Unless they make some changes I really don't see the Cardinals faring much better in the remaining season series. Watched the condensed game yeah, they should have scored a lot more runs. Bowling league Burleson had the defensive series of his life. My guess, is sporting a lifetime negative defensive war, we won't see a repeat performance against the Cubs. But, man, it's annoying, like seeing Castellanos pull those catches out his ass last series in Wrigley.

This series and the season series may have started with a bang for the Cardinals but, it's going to end in a whimper.

Maybe someone else with access to analytical tools can answer this question. Right now he's unable to square up a ball, to me, it appears to be a timing issue more so than the quality of the pitch. In Iowa we saw video of Shaw crushing balls with the same velocity and location however, in the big leagues, he's not. The pressure to perform, Cubs being a good position for the postseason, etc. could be contributing factors in his timing being off.
