  1. Yes, I don't get today, they ran for 170+ yards against a far more talented USC front. Today missed blocks every where, still, even with their lack of execution, this game wasn't really that close. This game, the awful Purdue QB didn't hurt them as much with his legs and they did a fairly decent job of stopping the RB - Mockebee - who, only looks good against the Illini.
  2. Oh, well, thought a bad idea to start Boyd on a short rest and it was. Also, thinking game 2 is Cubs best shot at a split and maybe, Counsell was thinking along the same lines. Doesn't really matter how the Brewers win by today, if the Cubs get game 2 it's on. At least, the Illini won today, wasn't really that close.
  3. To me the Cubs are playing house money, all eyes, all pressure on the Brewers. Don't know if means anything or if it'll be a positive for the Cubs but, hell, at least they have this.
  4. If a batter can't tap his helmet to initiate a challenge what's he supposed to do? Ask for a challenge?
  5. It's damn hard to call balls and strikes, I, sure as horsefeathers, couldn't do it. Well, I could do it, don't know how many, if any, calls I'd get right.
  6. You're correct, game 5, maybe, turn to Trout earlier perhaps, to start the 7th. Honestly, don't know if the Cubs would have won even had Durham not made an error. It was clear Sutcliffe on gas after the 6th.
  7. Just reflecting a little on 1984, I'll never understand Frey' logic of going with Sanderson in game 4. Trout should have started maybe, the Cubs still lose that game unfortunately, we'll never know.
  8. Think I read Ben Johnson was at the game? Does this count?
  9. I know we give the HP umpires lots of horsefeathers, it's got to be hard to call balls and strikes. Horizontally, no problem same for every hitter, vertically is were the difficulty comes in. It changes from batter to batter and the HP has to figure that out instantly, it can't be easy. That said, I'm all for removing umpires from the strike calling equation, they lack true consistency and they'll never have it because they're human.
  10. Guess it was 6-0 and you're correct, they'll just roll over the Dodgers like the Cubs did to the Mets in 2015.
  11. Guess this is more of a philosophical question, currently pitching appears to be trending towards velocity. Guys throwing 98+ is becoming more and more prevalent. In time, I believe hitters are going to adjust and start to become more effective against velocity, they'll be able to get on top of those 100+ FB's. What'll be next? Velocity with spin? Is that even physically possible?
  12. Yes, I just checked, it's been a minute since an NL Central team had some PS success.
  13. Are the Cubs the first NL Central team to win a playoff series since 2017?
  14. Beating the Cubs is their best chance to move on, don't think they'll get past the Phillies or Dodgers. If they do beat the Cubs, they better pray the Phillies and Dodgers beat up on each other extracting a toll on the series winner. If I were a Brewers fan, I'd be really worried about facing the Dodgers. Dodgers are not the same team they went 7-0 against in the regular season.
  15. Putting the ball in play is the next step, checked, didn't realize 0-7, 7 K's in the series. I'd seriously consider going with Castro, looking at his splits he's hit well vs. the Brewers and hit really well at American Family Field.
  16. Is there a chance we'll see more from Shaw this series? Think first PS, etc. may have gotten to him, definitely swinging at pitches he was, for the most part, not swinging at during the regular season.
  17. Guess the controversial strike call makes up for Durham' boot on a routine GB. The Padres' reaction to the umpires was certainly childish maybe, the Cubs in that situation react the same way. Don't think the umpires leaving the field with the Padres was a good idea. Did they hang around waiting for the umpires? If so, that's on Shildt, I believe it's his job to get the asses out of the dugout.
  18. You're correct, thought Miller was overkill and way too expensive. I'm certain if you gave the Padres the choice of Miller or Laureano being out for the WC they'd chosen Miller.
  19. Took a quick glance, didn't realize the Padres' pen had a WAR of 7.2! Brewers pen had a WAR of 1.3, a slight step down from that of Padres. It's a little different with the Brewers, Padres you better get them early and have a lead after 5, that's not the case with the Brewers.
  20. Miller was a nice to have not a necessity, the needs were on the offensive side.
  21. https://x.com/TalkinBaseball_/status/1973960929126879385?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet He traded away the farm for Mason Miller, this team was never going to win the WS, not enough in the lineup.
  22. The Yankees' starter looks real good, real good. Despite this, I've complete faith in the Yankees bullpen to allow the Red Sox, at some point, to bring the tying run to plate.
  23. Knew I was forgetting someone, was it May or early June for his ETA?
