  1. Maybe Lawton will let it come to him today, since joining the Cubs he's roughly(quick glance at SportsLine Game Log) 5-25, 1BB, .240 OBP, I believe he may be trying too hard to make something happen.
  2. Sorry Card fans but, if Pujols is 25 years old then Jose Macias is 6'2''...
  3. Nunez with a Garciapparra (pop up) to third? Another 1-2-3 inning? What's up with that?
  4. Mulder has thrown more pitches than Maddux, something is seriously wrong here...
  5. Let's see it took Maddux 8 pitches to give up 2 runs, Mulder will have three outs within 8 or less pitches.
  6. I think by "best matchup" he means righty-righty or lefty-lefty. If he looked at stats, Walker (who hits lefties pretty well) would be playing today. I knew it was reach to think he looks at the statistics.
  7. Heard Dusty on the Score griping about his starters recently not going too deep into their games. As result, his bullpen has been overworked, leading to him using the most rested reliever as opposed to one offering the best matchup. He actually said best matchup! That leads me to believe he at least looks at the statistics? Or is that a far too extreme conclusion?
  8. Here's a good one - I checked out SportsLine Game center and saw a 1st inning doughnut for the Cards, nearly wetted my pants until I looked further down at the rain delay note.
  9. Macias and Perez came up on the lineup wheel today.
  10. I know the Cards are going to win this game in route to sweeping the series but, as anyone looked at their lineup? Pujols, Edmonds and Nunez? Mabry? Taguchi? Diaz?
  11. I can't believe they aren't going to score a few runs against possibly the worst pitcher in NL.
  12. From CBS Sportsline looks like Patterson swung at a pitch up and away, his problem still remains pitch selection.
  13. Looks like the White Sox have been watching the Cubs lately - 1st&2nd no outs, sac, 2nd-3rd 1 out, Uribe and Podsednik both K vs that Ace of Aces Aaron Small...
  14. vance_the_cubs_fan you're a teacher, correct? Back to lesson planning and getting your class room in order? I taught 7th and 8th grade Math along with 9th, 10th and 11th grade Geometry at a small parochial school, had fun but, made peanuts, non-Union as well.
  15. Did Dusty figure out Macias is incapable of playing CF, after three starts, or did Hendry strongly suggest he try another OF configuration?
  16. Great avatar YearofDaCubs, Thanos correct?
  17. For me, the most frustrating aspect of this game: Watching Victor Zambrano get away with several hanging breaking balls to Lee and Ramirez while listening to Miller and Morgan talk him up as if he was more than an average pitcher.
  18. Agreed. Anyone but St. Louis would be alright with me right now. And I'm sure St. Louis feels the same way about us. But somehow I don't think they have to worry about the Cubs winning a world series this year. Chicago needs a world series, but White Sox fans would turn it into something horrible. They wouldn't focus on the fact that they were the best team in baseball that year, they'd focus on the fact that the Cubs DIDN'T win it. Instead of celebrating a win, they'd be looking for the first available Cub fan to put down. I thought of that but, there are plenty of Chicago Baseball fans who need and deserve a WS. The chance to see that WS Trophy paraded down Michigan Ave. is worth it...
  19. Why not? What have they to lose? Baker' not going to play Murton, might as well go with someone who he'll play and has played a competent CF in his career.
  20. I'm with you on this one. The infield is solid when Nomar is healthy. Keep him. We'll be able to get him for significantly less. Plus, both Nomar and Mia love Chicago. They are building a house in the suburbs right this second. Keep Cedeno as a back up and dump Neifi onto someone else. If no one wants Neifi, leave him as the backup, and let Cedeno get some AB in the minors. Outfield is where we need help. Burnitz has been our only consistent OF all year. I'm not against resigning him. Holly has to go. He's like Neifi, he "saved us" for about a month, but other than that, his offensive production has been horrible. And it's pointless to keep him around with Murton in the majors, and Lawton possibly being a Cub next year. Cubs need to agressively pursue a solid center fielder, and get all the bullpen help they can. I know today's baseball player has a different mentality but, if there ever was an example of player being in debt to team Garciapparra is it. He should basically take whatever the Cubs are willing to offer.
  21. Being a Cub fan I, of course, loathe the White Sox however, I'd like to see them win the World Series this year. As a former Chicagoan (born and raised) I can say without reservation that no MLB City on Earth deserves a WS more than Chicago. Ideally it would be our Cubs bringing a WS to Chicago but, here's hoping the White Sox can pull it off for Chicago this year. PS I do have some doubts as whether or not the White Sox are the AL's best team this year. There's no doubting they've had and are having the best Regular Season but, the Post Season is an entirely different animal. Having witnessed, save for the 1985 Bears and 90's Bulls, so many Seasons and Post Seasons blow up for Chicago Sports Teams, my doubts are understandable. I keep thinking the Red Sox and/or Angels may be the AL's best then, there's the precedent of 1983 when White Sox ran away with a very weak AL West, had the best AL's Regular Season but, lost to the AL's best team that year the Orioles.
  22. If the Cubs move Wood we all know how that story will play out - 1. Given the uncertainty of his injury status they'll get little in return. 2. The team that took the "chance" in trading for Wood will be rewarded with 30 starts/year for the next 8-10 years. Over the course of these 8-10 years Wood will win 20+ games several times and a Cy Young or two. 3. The player or players the Cubs received in return will be released within 2 years. Call me selfish but, I'd like to see the Cubs keep Wood. I'd rather watch him struggle to maintain health and the Cubs continue to take what they can get from him in the hopes that some season they get 30 starts from him.
  23. Here's to a win tonight!
  24. Lawton was never the answer. He was a mild upgrade asked to be a spark, with everyone expecting nomar and wood getting back to be the real spark. Of course Nomar sitting kills any spark he might bring, and wood in the bullpen isn't exactly awe inspiring... I didn't expect him to be the spark however, I thought he might work the pitcher a little more Hairston and Patterson. But putting on that Cub uniform, playing for Dusty Baker, means you swing at anything and everything I guess. 3 AB - 3 pitches
