  1. Many of us have stated how the Cardinals seemed to have struck Gold with every FA signing and players having career years but, the constants throughtout the last two years for them have been pitching and defense. Having seen this I believe Hendry is going to move in that direction.
  2. I'm surprised we haven't seen any NLDS Series Champion banners to accompany that moronic Wild Card Champions banner at Minute Maid Park.
  3. Speaking of which, saw a piece in last week's Sporting News stating UT could be this season' Auburn - undefeated yet, no shot at the Rose Bowl also, metioned the Horns as low as 8th in the 1st BCS standings. All I can say is the team I saw beat OSU looked like a NC contender to me.
  4. However, I believe Hendry will go in that direction that is, pitching, defense and speed. Something like signing Furcal and trading away Walker to go with Cedeno at 2B along with going hard after Burnett and Milwood.
  5. Why does anyone throw offspeed pitches to Sanders within the zone? I believe Pettitte could have gone up and in on Sanders with a fastball and thrown it by him, there's a reason why he's hit .063, .182 and .200 off Wood, Zambrano and Prior respectively - he can't catch up to a decent fastball. I don't believe it'll drastically hurt the Cardinals' WS chances but, Isringhausen is going to blow a game or two this Postseason.
  6. Do Mussina' smoke and mirrors have another quality game in them?
  7. Well said, I often wonder what numbers Hendry and Co. look at, last season should have shouted out the need for more offensive consistency and what did he do - signs all or nothing Burnitz. This season with the losing streak threesome of 7, 7 and 8 (or was it 7, 8 and 8?) once again exemplifies the need for offensive consistency - has he learned?
  8. Another point concerning Giles, given the weakness of this year's class, he may be biggest FA out there, when have the Cubs signed the biggest FA fish out there? One might say the Alou signing but, I don't believe he was the catch of that year's FA class.
  9. No doubt, he'll need to be hardened to the pressure of the Post Season.
  10. That type won't get us anywhere. You can take that to the bank. We all know that but, such a move screams of Hendry, Encarnacion, Preston Wilson, Jacque Jones or Jose Cruz Jr. (although he'd be a FA signing) these are what we can expect. Last offseason maybe. I'm not sure Hendry is dumb enough to make those kinds of moves this offseason if he wants to be GM of the Cubs for much longer. We're already hearing a lot more rumors involving the Cubs than we were last year during this time, which leads me to believe that we'll see something significant happen. I'd like to think he isn't dumb enough as well but, this a GM who let his Manager bat the poorest team OPB players in the 1&2 slots all season long and early on, use Hawkins as the closer, etc. I don't believe he even had enough nerve to go to Baker, with stats in hand, and suggest a change in the 1&2 spots. I'm not suggesting Hendry should have dictated to Baker but, when your Manager is screwing up in such a blatant fashion...
  11. That type won't get us anywhere. You can take that to the bank. We all know that but, such a move screams of Hendry, Encarnacion, Preston Wilson, Jacque Jones or Jose Cruz Jr. (although he'd be a FA signing) these are what we can expect.
  12. It's completely realistic. They have the money and the need. There's no reason they can't sign him. Any GM worth his salt could convince that type of player to come to Chicago with the available cash. Now, I won't predict it will happen, but there's absolutely no reason why it couldn't. I'd like to think Hendry is worth his salt and him, along with the Manager supposedly every player wishes to play for could get the job done. After all, shouldn't Master People Person Baker be good for something?
  13. Is speculating about Giles realistic? We all know how this one's going to turn out, he'll let the Cubs Wine and Dine him ultimately to spurn their offer citing a desire to remain on the West Coast. Then of course, the blasted Cardinals will say boo to him and he'll sign with them for less years and money. As for who is going to patrol RF, I believe Hendry is going to go the trade route. Quite probably for a Juan Encarnacion type...
  14. Well, so much for the Padres, their only chance was to grab game one with Peavy. Thought they had a good chance...Slider Speed Bat Sanders with the Grand Slam...
  15. Thanks for all the great work this season, here's to spectacular 2006 for nsbb.com and the Cubs!
  16. Great ideas all, I still believe Giles is pipe dream, no way he leaves the West Coast nevertheless, if such a plan were executed, we'd see a dramatic improvement in 2006. But, in particular one paragragh stood out: The Cubs will need a veteran backup, but Hendry will have to make it explicitly clear to Baker that the kid plays, even through slumps. From what I've seen Hendry will offer suggestions that the kids play and that's were it stops. So, either Hendry is going to grow a back bone this off-season or he's going to remove all of Baker' veteran options leaving him no choice but to play the kids. How pathetic is that Hendry, in a manner similar to dealing with a 3 year old, has to remove the toys/objects he doesn't want his Manager utilizing?
  17. I agree as much as like what he could do with the bat, why take the risk again on another injury prone player? We all know Wood will spend some time on the DL next season, certainly don't need Nomar joining him. It's a shame because, I believe, a healthy Nomar, over 140-160 games could quite probably dwarf all other NL SS offensively, heck it wouldn't even be that close.
  18. If the above becomes reality then, without question, Hendry is worst GM in Baseball possessing one of the poorest Baseball Minds ever seen. Only a blind fool would ignore the Cubs need for higher OBP is such a blatant fashion.
  19. If someone told me in March that the Cubs, going into the last weekend of the season, would have a combined record of 18-11 vs. the Astros and Cardinals in addition to a winning road record - I'd thought the Cubs were playoff bound.
  20. Pitching, pitching all that rhetoric about Grudz, Eckstein, Rodriguez, decision making, etc. doesn't to amount a hill of beans if the Cards pitching staff was gutted by injuries in the manner the Cubs were. Over the last two seasons the Cards have used 15 starters, this year alone the Cubs have used 10 starters. How good would have the superior Eckstein, Grudz, Taguchi, Rodriguez, et al looked if they had garbage like Mitre, Koronka and Rusch starting for them?
  21. The reason I am not okay with a Furcal signing is because I know there is no possible way that would be the secondary move. That would be paraded around as the "put us over the top" move, filling leadoff and SS, and the OF would be filled by scraps. Does Preston Wilson count as a secondary move? I hope not, Preston Wilson is polar opposite of what this team needs, if Hendry can't see this he's denser than we all thought.
  22. After this season if Hendry doesn't address this team' lack of OBP, he'll surely be painted by the Media and Fans as completely lacking in baseball knowledge.
  23. I believe Furcal may be a legitimate target, as for Giles, no chance at all. Why in the World would Giles, a West Coast native, leave it now that he's finally playing there?
  24. Me too but, as disappointed as we all are with Prior, I believe better days are ahead for him, in fact I wouldn't trade him for 10 Cris Carpenters.
  25. Its too bad we may never see the numbers Nomar could put up during a full season.
