  1. Adding Cedeno to above group makes it more attractive...
  2. I'm in the Castillo boat as well but, given the Marlins are in a salary dumping mode I don't think they'll take on Walker. Perhaps, Cedeno (meaning Furcal must be signed) and Pinto for Castillo? Then spin Walker to Dodgers for Bradley?
  3. I don't think the situation is *quite* that dire. I will agree though that obtaining Soriano would be a simply idiotic transaction. We were tops in BA/SLG, bottom in OBP - Soriano does not remedy the ailment. I don't believe Mench would be too bad of an acquisition, he makes contact, and he hasn't peaked. Soriano, on the other hand, brings absolute nothing, defensively he's on par with Walker maybe, worse, let the Rangers keep him.
  4. They'll move kent to first, and Walker will play second. As for Konerko, I don't think the Dodgers would be interested. I was close, I knew it was something to do with first. On a side note that could be the worst defensive half infield in the league. Unless its hit right at Walker or Kent a gb to their side of infield has 50/50 chance of making it to RF.
  5. Reads like a good idea to me however, Cedeno/Perez 2B smacks of Hollandsworth/Dubois LF...
  6. While my perference is a trade for Castillo and going with Cedeno at SS, I'm pushing for the Furcal signing. In my opinion, its the only way Perez won't see significant playing time, if Walker is retained, the infield is set - Furcal/Walker. If Furcal is not signed and, SS is left to Cedeno/Perez, recent history has shown Dusty will find a way to get Perez 100 or more SS starts.
  7. i can't freaking believe it. i retract all of my previous statements. Me either, I too was beginning to get discouraged most especially after losing Collins. Scheyer I could understand, he was a Dookie the minute he picked a basketball but, I thought Collins was clearly headed for Illinois. Just maybe Weber can recruit after all...
  8. Eric Gordon in the fold for the Illini!!!!!!!!! http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9066803 Next: Derrick Rose?
  9. Without question, while the comparison to the '85 defense is great a compliment I believe there's no comparison. It seems to me that this Bears defense gives up one or two big plays a game, in '85 that never happened, most especially during the last 6-8 games of the Regular Season and Playoffs. This tendency and the mistake prone Orton do not bode well for the Playoffs.
  10. What a load of BS! Seriously, what's the point of posting such garbage? I don't understand the mentality that calls for posting erroneous rumors, is it to see how many replies it generates?
  11. If Hendry' going to pursue Brown, I'd like to see him try to trade for Castillo (Marlins) and forget the pursuit of Furcal. Both Brown and Maddux will generate ground balls and I believe a DP combination of Castillo/Cedeno will get to more of them than a combination of Walker/Furcal. I like what Walker brings to the lineup offensively but, defensively he's really lacking. Even Jeff Kent had a greater ZR than Walker (.817-.802) admittedly, is not much greater nevertheless, Kent, who's widely acknowledged to have little to no range, has a greater ZR than Walker.
  12. Why no re-work the deal to get both say, Patterson, Walker and Pinto for Castillo and Pierre?
  13. 1. Orchestrate a trade with the Marlins for Pierre and Castillo, Patterson, Walker and a pitching prospect ought to be enough. 2. Sign Brain Giles 3. Sign Kevin Millwood or AJ Burnett
  14. Plus add a RF, but I'd be happy with that and think that's the way it's going. I think it's way to early to criticize the moves that have or haven't been made. I know there's been no indication that Hendry is considering Giles (at least reported) but, after the above additions of Castillo and Pierre. If a Giles is added to the mix, a 1-6 of Pierre, Castillo, Giles, Lee, Ramirez and Barrett could rival anything the Cardinals come up with 1-6.
  15. I'm beginning to believe Hendry' going to make a deal with the Marlins for Castillo and Pierre. If this deal is made, I believe he'll back off Furcal and use the remainder of his FA money to go after Burnett/Milwood and a RF. When one considers it, a DP combination of Castillo/Cedeno makes sense and could turn out to be one of the better combinations in the NL.
  16. There's been lots of discussion about this, but why mess with an unknown quantity? Grossman has started fewer NFL games than Orton now, and Orton is on a 6 game win streak with this team. You can't tell me for sure what kind of quarterback Grossman can be...no one can. We just don't know. Grossman should remain the #2 behind Orton as long as Orton is winning games. You know what you're going to get with Orton. The 5 INT game not withstanding, he's not going to LOSE you games. We just don't know that about Grossman yet. Let it be open competition in camp next season of course though. Yet, under Orton the offense has shown no vertical improvement, the running game has been great but, at some point the passing game is going to be counted for a win. I don't believe its capable of such a feat.
  17. Please forgive me if this has been posted but, I believe Rex Grossman, as soon as he's ready to go, should be given back his starting job. Orton has done an OK job but, he's too mistake prone and has had the defense bail him out on way too many occassions. I also believe the offense will improve under Grossman to a point where it may be taken seriously in the playoffs.
  18. Freaking Cardinal fans! You gotta be loving this doo doo. We've got the money, we've got the talent, and our holes could be filled through Trade or FA this offseason. The Red Sox and White Sox have won a World Series, Houston has been to a World Series, the Cardinals are strong, and I've got 30 years experience telling me a Gonzalez/Perez middle infield wreaks of a classic Cub move. Even with the best possible DP combo - Walker/Furcal or Cedeno/Furcal, the Cubs hopes are still tied to pitching. Give me a healthy Wood and Prior each making 27+ starts and I'll have a contender even with a DP combo of Perez/Gonzalez. If the injury bug that has hit the Cubs' staff the last two years were to strike the Cards next season how much difference would their great lineup make?
  19. But more often than not, Furcal won't even be on base, so Pierre could just try and slap one through the hole. Yeah, because Furcal puts up such awful OBAs from year-to-year. I didn't say that. But somebody said Furcal would get on every time. He's only a .350 OBP guy. His addition doesn't cure all woes. Giles would cure a whole lot more. Dusty' boy Nefi mentioned him getting on base 2-3 times over 5 at-bats...
  20. Leadoff and CF was not the only problem. RF was as big a hole as CF last year. Pierre is a mediocre CF, Furcal is a 2nd tier SS, Giles is an outstanding RF. I don't want to hear about the "doesn't want to play here" BS. Players will play where they are offered money. You don't know if Giles wants to come here unless you try and convince him to come here. And if you're turned down early, don't just give up. That can't be your excuse not to go for the best. Exactly, along those lines, I love it when agents throw out that so and so is flattered by team' X interest in so and so line, such as Giles' agent with the Yankees. Bottom line, Giles will go where the money is, all the other talk is rhetoric.
  21. Some believe that if Furcal isn't signed, Perez, and not Cedeno will start at SS. But if that's true, then even if Furcal is signed, and Walker is moved as expected, then you'd have to assume Perez will get more time at 2nd than Cedeno. Of course, after posting, I thought of that, with Furcal at SS, it'll be too easy for Dusty, I can hear it now..."2b is not Cedeno' natural position". Perhaps, a signing of Furcal and retaining Walker keeps the lineup Nefi-free.
  22. It appears the negotiations are down to the Cubs and Braves. My guess is Furcal's agent wants to see how much more the Cubs need to offer to keep him from the Braves. I suspect we'll see a resolution to this saga fairly soon. Do you believe a Furcal decision will really start the ball rolling for this Cubs offseason? Moreover, I believe a Furcal signing is a key to keeping Perez out of the Cub 2006 lineup.
  23. As long as it keeps Nefi from leading off I'm for it seriously, though, it wouldn't be unprecedented for Pierre to have a career year prior to FA. Might as well be for the Cubs...
  24. Given the Cubs recent history with injuries and their luck I don't blame Hendry for being apprehensive about re-signing Nomar. Furcal is not a guarenteed sign but, I rather Hendry go all out in pursuit of a frontline SS who's a pretty good bet to play 150+ games than one who may miss a 1/3 or more of the season.
  25. If the Cubs don't sign Giles, I'd rather he sign with Yankees than watch him put a 1.00+ OPS as a Cardinal.
