  1. This garbage is getting old. Don't care if you're joking or pissed or what not. Amen, Serena. Chill on the shooting people scenario, plz. I just don't think there's a trade out there than can really fix the Cubs. Unless it's trading Dusty somewhere. I think you're probably right, but then again, I can't think of a manager that we could call in at this point to right the ship. Even if Dusty made perfect decisions, are we good enough? Having enough baseball sense to know or figure out Patterson and Perez at the top of the order is going to lend itself to prolonged offensive slumps is far from a perfect decision. gflore- I did say "if" dusty made perfect decisions. I apologize; I'm as frustrated as Ron Santo was tonight, Baker' lack of baseball common sense is beyond comprehension.

  3. The Trib is spending alot of money for this crap, and I doubt they are too happy. I'll go out on a limb and say that if the Cubs win less than 2 of the remaining games before the ASB, Dusty gets the axe. You think they would eat Dusty's $4M next year that fast? For some reason I think Hendry actually agrees with Dusty's managerial moves. He is the one that supplies Dusty with the players. If Dusty goes Hendry needs to get the Axe on the same day. Do you honestly think that Dusty doesn't have a big say in personnel decisions? He has almost all of the say in who gets called up/ sent down, and all of the say in who plays. Hendry is not without blame, but Dusty deserves the lion's share of it. It wasn't Dusty's fault that Hendry failed to fill big holes over the off season and left him with a less than avg. bench. Also, not Dusty's fault that Hendry made few improvements to the bullpen. Hendry should take as much blame as Dusty. But I would like to see both of them go. That may be, but for every problem Hendry created by non-action, Dusty has exacerbated twice over with his greivous ineptitude. Remember Chad Fox, who everyone knew was not to pitch consecutive days early in the season? Well, we know how that turned out. Remember in ST when Hendry and others were saying that Dempster should be the closer so Hawk could go back to the role he was comfortable in? Well, we know how that turned out. Remember when Dubois was ripping the ball and was white hot and we watched Holla hit .200 for a month? We have a decent leadoff hitter in Hairston and an excellent 2 hole hitter in Walker, and yet we watch Perez and Patterson languish at the top of the order while Lee's prowess goes wasted? You see how a white-hot Cedeno was brought up and promptly mired on the bench in favor of an ice cold Perez? And on, and on, and on. Hendry as much to blame as Baker? I don't think so. Has JH made some mistakes? Sure, but he has made more good decisions than bad. Baker is more to blame than is Hendry & it's not even close. I agree, Baker and his loyalty to inept players, is reason #1 why this team is not going to be much better than .500 this season and didn't make the playoffs last year. In 2003, we were fortunate his loyalty was to an effective player in Lofton.
  4. Honestly, I would just let the season go down the toilet at this point. There are way too many problems with this club that a move or two isn't going to turn this team into a World Series contender. Don't bother mortgaging a part of the future for what's probably a hopeless year. Sell off some guys in the last year of their contracts that other teams might find useful, and do a better job in the offseason of putting a good team on the field for 2006. At the very least, I'd like to see Hairston, Walker 1 and 2 for the remainder of this season. Of course, that would require, Baker putting aside his player first philosophy and going with his best options. Furthermore, I sincerly hope some yelling, shouting and chair throwing is going on the Cubs clubhouse, someone getting POed about their pathetic play.
  5. What did Ronny say? He wants a deal to be made? He said something needs to happen...
  6. When Ron Santo starts calling for something to be done, you know its bad. Well Mr. Hendry, if you wish to save the 2005 season, something better happen TODAY, not tomorrow, not seconds before the trading deadline, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I'd let Maddux take one for the team here, at least two more innings, the game' over, a loss is a loss, who cares if its by 3 or five runs?
  8. He put the ball in play, I'd say that's a quality at bat.
  9. Let me guess, High Fastball or curveball in the dirt? After tonight's 0-4, 3K, not even Dusty "Players Manager" Baker can justify playing him anymore.
  10. Melodramatic much? Hairston and Hollandsworth should NOT sit until either cools off. A little however, given the recent trend, is there any other way to see it?
  11. OK, 5 pitches, that was too easy.
  12. Says here Patterson K's in first at bat, 4 pitches.
  13. And that's the ballgame...6 in a row
  14. This lineup tonight, playing Patterson, says to me that winning is not Baker' main objective, if it were, well, we know there are many more logical choices. I really starting to believe Baker philosophy is one which views winning as a by product of happy team or one in which players like their manager or something along those lines. We certainly know what his philosophy isn't - putting players in a position which maximizes their chances of success.
  15. Apparently Patterson going to start tonight, I'm certain, he won't be leading off but, as result of his playing tonight, Perez is most likely going to lead off. Let's see, the Cubs are struggling to score runs, so let’s have Perez, who is arguably worse than Patterson, leading off, that's the solution. I know Baker is the kind of Manager who'll stick with a player thru thick and thin but, a some point winning has to priority one. I'm really starting to believe winning isn't Baker' main focus or goal, if it were, Hairston would be put in CF and the lead off spot on permanent basis and Cedeno would be playing more SS.
  16. I agree. I want to blame somebody, and it is tempting to blame Walker, but the Cubs were smoking balls all over the park, and the pitching was adequate. It was just a combination of Brad Wilkerson and bad luck, IMO. The first two games of the series, on the other hand....... Nevertheless, its disappointing to watch the Cubs shoot themselves in the foot and lose to a team that they could have swept with some solid play.
  17. I believe the next experiment is going to be what we saw today - Hairston, Walker in the 1 and 2 spots. Yes, Walker went 0 for 6 today but, Hairston got on base three times and we all know Walker will hit and get on base.
  18. They all look good, dude. There not that good, not once in this series have the Cubs offered their best and were flat beaten by Washington, each game was given to them on a silver platter. Mark my words, Washington goes down the tubes in the second half and doesn't make the playoffs.
  19. I can tell you right now, we are nto a playoff team. Not with this offense. Peoplle are starting to see it the way I've been seeing it since the beginning of the year... not enough on-base ability on this club to have any sort of consistently productive offense. that added to the fact we might have the worst in game manager in baseball. If Hendry doesn't make a deal for someone (Dunn, Huff, Kearns, Kotsay or player X) to get on base ahead of Lee, Burnitz and Ramirez, .500 is the best we're going to see from this team. With some decent OBP ahead of Lee and company, they'll win the WC going away. By the way, I predict Washington is going to be the first half surprise that'll flop in the second half. I used to think it was going to be the White Sox but, they could play .500 in the second half and still win the AL Central.
  20. In September, when the Cubs have the playoff their playoff spot tied up, Carlos Lee should hit the dirt.
  21. Let's face it, Borowski is done, you know that, I know that , in fact, of Cubdom knows this, unfortunately, Baker doesn't. The only way Baker won't use Borowski is if he's unavailable, Hendry needs to make this happen by releasing him.
  22. I believe the ax is going to fall soon, Baker got the vote of confidence the other day in the context of the 2003 Marlins and 2004 Astros, he's not long for the Cubs.
  23. Is it me or blocked or no blocked shot, was Hinrich clobbered by Arenas on that break away? Too bad the Wizards "wonderful" season will be over in about 5 more games.
