  1. The Cubs, the only team in Baseball that allows only 2ER in 3 games yet, manages to drop 2 of them. I'm predicting it now, the Cubs will achieve the impossible, they'll become the first team in Baseball history to lose a game in which they pitched a shutout.
  2. That would mean someone making an adjustment and changing their approach - never going to happen.
  3. Why is that the first time seeing a pitcher mystifying effect always works on the Cubs but, never for the Cubs?
  4. And it's been that way for years. Stupid approaches by stupid players led by a stupid manager. Count me in as well, their refusal to adjust their collective approach based on a given pitcher' pattern, etc. is beyond stupid. I'd like them to go with some pitches...outside to right field. The outs are bad, but when its 2-0 and you ground out weakly...that's just bad decisions Saw the same thing last night, Rodriguez threw maybe ten pitches inside, think anyone started looking to go the opposite field?

  6. Did anyone catch a glimpse of the Cardinal lineup last night? It looked positively Dusty inspired!!! I believe even Rich Hill may have managed to pitch a scoreless inning vs. that lineup. I'm not taking joy in Pujols' injury but, it sure is refreshing to see the Cards experiencing some Cub like luck.
  7. Will this team ever realize a pitching pattern and take advantage of it? It was the same approach to every hitter for Rodriguez, outside, outside, outside, what exactly does this Coaching staff do during the game? Play Hearts? There was a shot of Clines looking out of the dugout however; I don't believe he was watching the Game.
  8. As of right now, he has 43% of the team HRs and has driven in 22% of their runs. By my count, he is responsible for driving in or scoring about 32% of their total runs, and I think that's what Len mentioned. You're correct, my mistake, the point is, nearly a third of their offense is tied up in Pujols, it's massive hole in the Cardinal lineup.
  9. Sunday, Len Kasper metioned that Pujols has driven in 34% of the Cardinals' runs, if he's out for extended period, it's going extract a huge toll. Even the Cardinals with all of their magic pixie dust won't be able to overcome such a loss.
  10. Please forgive the lateness of this reply but, what happened to the Pistons? Where's that team I saw in Dec, Jan and Feb that had people talking of them in same breath as the 95-96 Bulls (72-10 Regular Season, 15-2 Playoffs)? As a Bulls fan I'm of course, happy to see the Pistons go down but, nevertheless surprised. Turns out, these Piston weren't even close to those 95-96 Bulls...
  11. Great article by Rosenthal but, hasn't Bruce Miles been making the same points for at least a month now? I saw a little piece in the Tribune the other day apparently Gary Matthews and Company are upset. Upset at the insinuation that they're at fault for the Cubs' lack of fundamental play. Taking a cue from Dusty he offered a few excuses including blaming the players. According to Matthews while they stress smart baserunning, etc. is still up to the players to execute. Funny, other teams, such as the rest of the NL, don't seem to have these problems so, what's the scope Sarge? Are Cub players uncoachable? Sadly it's quite obvious Hendry does not value OBP nor will he ever, the current state will never change with Hendry at the helm.
  12. I'm still afraid that Perez will start against LH. I thought about that as well, I could see Dusty starting him at SS against the few LHPs that Neifi has mashed in the past. Perhaps, I should have written we won't see him in the lineup as often?
  13. Well, since Nevin is a veteran and can play 1B we may finally see the end of Neifi in the lineup. I look at Nevin as the lesser of two evils, I know he's just about done but, I believe there's a much greater chance he'll get the ball out the infield more than once for every 100 AB's.
  14. Doesn't really matter who they throw out there, success abounds, Rusch would probably be remotely effective as a Cardinal. I know the old story of its not luck, its the Coaching, but, when is this nonsense of every washed up reject journey man instantly turning into an All Star as soon as he dons a Cardinal uniform going to stop?
  15. Ray came in with 10 BB in 22and1/3 IP, how many consecutive walkless innings could he pitch vs these Cubs?
  16. Only 5 hits but, 6 runs? Why? 9 WALKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this doesn't scream of the importance of taking pitches and working the pitcher, they'll (Cub Management) never get it, if so, they're beyond hope.
  17. To me, their blatent ignorance of the importance of OBP in generating runs speaks volumes about their Baseball knowledge. Simply put, Hendry and company do not know or understand Baseball, runs scored is directly proportional to the number of baserunners, high OBP means more baserunners thereby, increasing the chances of scoring runs - why is this so hard for Hendry to grasp? Hendry' quote after the Jones signing says it all - He's a very versatile guy. We were very intent on trying to get a left-handed hitter. He's very athletic, has some pop in his bat, an outstanding throwing arm. He's a versatile player and had a lot of upside in him. Great but, can he play Baseball?
  18. From some of the aquistions, such as Bynum and Negron, it appears Hendry is confused by the fact that every Baseball player is an athlete but, not every athlete is a Baseball player.
  19. *sigh* I've said it before in a couple of other threads, I wouldn't be surprised if Prior doesn't pitch this year. I have no inside knowledge of course but just a "gut" feeling. Something is wrong with the guy. I already accepted the apparent fact he won't throw an inning for the Cubs this season, 2007 and beyond? 50-50
  20. Or Baseball players, instead he'll aquire all the "toolsy" prospects who have a 100ft vertical leap and have 40 yrd dash time of .1 sec but, couldn't tell a ball from a strike if their collective lives depended upon it.
  21. Don't underestimate Dusty and company, regardless of the situation there's always an excuse. Dusty' one true talent - generating excuses...
  22. Nope, he got sent down. Rusch is in line again. That's great for Iowa, they're only 4 back in the loss column to Nashville, with Hill back they may have a shot at the playoffs. seriously if we sent the whole cubs roster down to triple A do you think they could win? i really don't without lee. I don't believe so either...
  23. A Manager who yells at the players and acts like an ass won't make Jacque Jones, et al hit the cutoff man or pay attention on the basepaths. One who hits the players the only place they'll feel it - in the pocket book - may get results. I don't know if its permissible but, some kind of a progressive fine system for each fundamental mistake would probably get Jones to hit the cutoff man once in a while.
