  1. On the topic of old school I heard a Fergie Jenkins interview, on days of his starts, he used to throw, get this, 100 pitches in the bullpen session prior to game.
  2. As someone mentioned earlier its not that they, save for Jones, cannot hit LHP's, its their aggression that's getting them out. Duke and Capuano have pretty good stuff, I wouldn't call them soft-tossing junkballers, Mulder and Davis are soft tossing junkballers, all of these LHP's take the same approach. Live on the outer third of the plate, counting on the agressive hitter trying crush and pull everything thereby generating GB's to 2b, SS, and 3b. Its the hitters who exercise some patience and look to take the pitch the other way that smoke these guys, you'd think after seeing the same thing over and over again the Cub hitters would figure it out.
  3. He's good but, 40% of those career wins are against the Cubs, in fact he's 4-0 with an ERA of 0.56 vs. the Cubs. Subtract the Cub totals and he's 6-4 2.94 ERA, still good but, not as in-human as his stats are vs. the Cubs.
  4. The Bulls played terribly no doubt but, what's with all the lane violations called on them? I find it hard to believe they're the only team on the floor doing whatever it is that's getting called...
  5. The ironic point is the Sarge was amongst the league leaders in BB during the '84 season so, I'm guessing he knows the value of taking a pitch or two.
  6. What's so baffling is the fact that runs are directly proportional to the number of baserunners. Or in other words walks lead to baserunners, baserunners lead to runs therefore, the greater the number of baserunners the greater are the chances to score. Pretty simple equation really.
  7. As petty as it sounds after the Cubs win the WS, I'd hope they tell ESPN and SI both to shove it - no access to Club House or Press Conferences, etc.
  8. At least with Patterson, when did put the ball in play, there was a chance it could be hit with some authority. Pierre hasn't hit a ball hard in about two weeks...
  9. BTT will be over Duke' performance today like it was the greatest game ever pitched.
  10. Wiffle. I also forgot Tee Ball, he'd probably K on three swings.
  11. Jacque Jones quite simply the worst all around RF in all of Baseball - Little League, HS, College, Asia, Latin America, MLB, Minor Leagues - did I miss any?
  12. I have 7. I'm going with 8, Pierre with a weak grounder to 3b on the Duke' second pitch.
  13. 2-0 deficit is a 10 run deficit in effect...
  14. That's why we call him Slappy. But really, he has the most amazing ability to make contact without ever hitting the ball hard. It's that Pierre Flair I guess? Neifi' pretty good at the Pierre Flair as well...
  15. Watch it, some Card fan is going to reply that its not so out of the ordinary, that such a thing happens for every team. That Ponson always had the potential to do so and it just so happens he decided to be great the moment he put a Cardinal uniform.
  16. Ponson? What of Arroyo, he of the 4.41 lifetime ERA and W-L of 38-33 pitching like he's Cy Young Superman?
  17. How many hard hit balls have come off the bat of Pierre? I'd say its no more than 10, when was the last time he hit a line drive? Granted, he puts the ball in play a lot more than Patterson ever did but, little infield dribblers are about as effective as a strikeout.
  18. I don't believe so, to the Cubs credit, they seem to have taken a little bit different approach, last two seasons, I have no doubt they would have stuck with Rusch. This season they've already replaced Williams and if Hill does well I believe he'll take Rusch' spot.
  19. Dusty like move pitching to Murton, with a man on deck who couldn't hit a LHP if his life depended on it...
  20. Does Pierre EVER hit the ball hard? or a hit a line drive?
  21. What's this?! Cubs bullpen getting some onem out for the first time in three days?
  22. Thge Cubs load the bases with no outs - don't score, Pirates hit a bunch of cheesey, crap singles and of course, tie the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Pat and Ron dicussing all time x-base hitting and RBI leaders, what no Pujols? I thought he gets 100 x-base hits everytime he rolls out of bed.
