  1. Reads good to me as well however, its got to start with a removal of Baker. Despite his claims to contrary, he's shown an unwillingness to let a young player play thru his struggles. Pie, Murton, Roit will all, at some point slump, upon which Baker will start pulling the crap he's currently doing with Murton. Pierre, who will "do his thing" gets start after start to bring his OBP up to .300 yet, Murton after a few bad weeks suddenly needs to be platooned because he struggling with RHP, simply amazing.
  2. I like the idea of going with Hill, Guzman and Murton for the remainder of the season but, in all honesty, Pie is receiving much better instruction at Iowa then he'd ever get from the likes of Clines, Matthews and Baker.
  3. I don't believe payroll is the problem, I believe the people who spent the money are the problem. Even with infinitely deep pockets, Hendry still would have not pursued, for example, a Brian Giles this last off season.
  4. hmmm....nah...Hendry isn't bold enough to do that.. "One NL manager" try 85 percent of the Chicago fans believes the Cubs window is closed. Oh boy.....Hendry is definately a dunce, right now. To me, the use of the words pressured and felt in reference to the need for a table setter at the top of the lineup suggests a lack of Baseball intelligence/knowledge. Hendry, on his own, couldn't recognize what high OBP at, amongst others, the leadoff spot can do for run scoring? Or how batting Patterson and Perez 1 and 2 were directly attributable to their run scoring draughts in 2005?
  5. Losing is one thing but, losing with the likes of Rusch, Perez, Mabry and Niven is extremely frustrating. I'd rather see Hill, Guzman and Murton play the remainder this lost season, let's finally see what they can do. Its now or never for Hill perhaps, Guzman as well.... Love the quote from Baker concerning why he didn't start Guzman last Friday: "The reason [Guzman] didn't start [Friday] was simply because his longest start was four innings," Funny, that's about the longest Rusch has lasted in a start...
  6. Whoa there, two batters, two outs? Ok who kidnapped Guzman? or, is that Marmol in his uniform?
  7. holy cow! A little variation is good, after all, those 4-3's get tend to get boring.
  8. And stranded I wish it were possible for the Cubs to begin every inning with a runner at third, just for experiment' sake. How many runs would they score?
  9. Ok, there's the free-bie, next inning BB, BB, BB,...
  10. How many BB's will Guzman issue? I'm going with 5 over 2+ IP.
  11. Double switch anyone? Womack or Perez in LF and Guzman on the hill?
  12. Just gotta tip your hat to the Astros...it was too hot out there today...high sky...too many people at the game. I'm not being too creative with my excuses, I'm certain many of you could do better, including the Excuse Master, Dusty.
  13. I saw Marmol on a couple occasions at Lansing (when it was a Cub affiliate) don't remember him throwing this hard of course, that was a two or years ago, he's obviously gotten a little stronger. When I saw him, he was in the 90-92 range nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see a Cub prospect beyond Marshall, not implode ala Hill, Guzman and Ryu.
  14. Did anyone really think Pierre was going to be this pathetic? I, too did not like the trade but, I expected vast improvement over Patterson in the lead-off spot.
  15. The second step in any list is so important, it needs to be thought of twice. Fixed, having a degree in Mathematics, doesn't necessairly mean I can count!
  16. Secure in these facts: 1. Rusch will get another start, and another, and another, etc. 2. Soft-tossing, junk-balling, 6+ ERA, 2+ WHIP LHPs will pitch shutout after shutout 3. Neifi will be lineup way too often 4. Pierre will never hit the ball (on the fly or line drive) out of infield more once every 10 games nor will he ever hit the cutoff man on the fly 5. The same moronic approach at the plate will persist I've taken to watching the Tigers, they play good fundamental Baseball (pitchers actually cover 1B on GB to the right side), they're fun to watch. And, best of all, should they win the AL Central, they will have beaten the White Sox in the process. I'll be attending the second game of the upcoming Astros series - possibly a Clemens start.
  17. But, Pierre is such a hard worker, that's gotta count for something.
  18. ...or run fast?
  19. If Rusch had nerve the size of his girth he'd brush back Arroyo with his first pitch to him.
  20. Quite probably to the DL again perhaps, for the last time as a Cub, as some have echoed, I believe Kerry Wood is done. Not just as a Cub but, with Baseball.
  21. I know there's some takers among you guys... Kiley's way off there. You wouldn't need any athletic background whatsoever. I believe the star pitcher (blond, from U of AZ, I believe) of last year's US Olympic Womens Softball team could shutout the Cubs.
  22. But, hey they can all catch the ball and run fast.
  23. What Dusty-ism will we read of after the game for Eyre' lack of covering 1B? "My teams are not bad. My teams have good fundamentals. Just look at my team in San Fransisco. Gotta tip your cap dude" Not bad, I was thinking of something along the lines of "...there were a lot white shirts in amongst the fans along 1B, he lost site of the ball..." if Jones can get picked off 2B because of the lite air in AZ, Eyre can lose a GB in the crowd.
  24. What Dusty-ism will we read of after the game for Eyre' lack of covering 1B?
  25. June 7, 2006: The day Eyre truly became a Cub. Per the Sarge - it's up to the players to execute, don't hold us accountable for the lack of fundamental play...
