  1. Sunday, Len Kasper metioned that Pujols has driven in 34% of the Cardinals' runs, if he's out for extended period, it's going extract a huge toll. Even the Cardinals with all of their magic pixie dust won't be able to overcome such a loss.
  2. Please forgive the lateness of this reply but, what happened to the Pistons? Where's that team I saw in Dec, Jan and Feb that had people talking of them in same breath as the 95-96 Bulls (72-10 Regular Season, 15-2 Playoffs)? As a Bulls fan I'm of course, happy to see the Pistons go down but, nevertheless surprised. Turns out, these Piston weren't even close to those 95-96 Bulls...
  3. Great article by Rosenthal but, hasn't Bruce Miles been making the same points for at least a month now? I saw a little piece in the Tribune the other day apparently Gary Matthews and Company are upset. Upset at the insinuation that they're at fault for the Cubs' lack of fundamental play. Taking a cue from Dusty he offered a few excuses including blaming the players. According to Matthews while they stress smart baserunning, etc. is still up to the players to execute. Funny, other teams, such as the rest of the NL, don't seem to have these problems so, what's the scope Sarge? Are Cub players uncoachable? Sadly it's quite obvious Hendry does not value OBP nor will he ever, the current state will never change with Hendry at the helm.
  4. I'm still afraid that Perez will start against LH. I thought about that as well, I could see Dusty starting him at SS against the few LHPs that Neifi has mashed in the past. Perhaps, I should have written we won't see him in the lineup as often?
  5. Well, since Nevin is a veteran and can play 1B we may finally see the end of Neifi in the lineup. I look at Nevin as the lesser of two evils, I know he's just about done but, I believe there's a much greater chance he'll get the ball out the infield more than once for every 100 AB's.
  6. Doesn't really matter who they throw out there, success abounds, Rusch would probably be remotely effective as a Cardinal. I know the old story of its not luck, its the Coaching, but, when is this nonsense of every washed up reject journey man instantly turning into an All Star as soon as he dons a Cardinal uniform going to stop?
  7. Ray came in with 10 BB in 22and1/3 IP, how many consecutive walkless innings could he pitch vs these Cubs?
  8. Only 5 hits but, 6 runs? Why? 9 WALKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this doesn't scream of the importance of taking pitches and working the pitcher, they'll (Cub Management) never get it, if so, they're beyond hope.
  9. To me, their blatent ignorance of the importance of OBP in generating runs speaks volumes about their Baseball knowledge. Simply put, Hendry and company do not know or understand Baseball, runs scored is directly proportional to the number of baserunners, high OBP means more baserunners thereby, increasing the chances of scoring runs - why is this so hard for Hendry to grasp? Hendry' quote after the Jones signing says it all - He's a very versatile guy. We were very intent on trying to get a left-handed hitter. He's very athletic, has some pop in his bat, an outstanding throwing arm. He's a versatile player and had a lot of upside in him. Great but, can he play Baseball?
  10. From some of the aquistions, such as Bynum and Negron, it appears Hendry is confused by the fact that every Baseball player is an athlete but, not every athlete is a Baseball player.
  11. *sigh* I've said it before in a couple of other threads, I wouldn't be surprised if Prior doesn't pitch this year. I have no inside knowledge of course but just a "gut" feeling. Something is wrong with the guy. I already accepted the apparent fact he won't throw an inning for the Cubs this season, 2007 and beyond? 50-50
  12. Or Baseball players, instead he'll aquire all the "toolsy" prospects who have a 100ft vertical leap and have 40 yrd dash time of .1 sec but, couldn't tell a ball from a strike if their collective lives depended upon it.
  13. Don't underestimate Dusty and company, regardless of the situation there's always an excuse. Dusty' one true talent - generating excuses...
  14. Nope, he got sent down. Rusch is in line again. That's great for Iowa, they're only 4 back in the loss column to Nashville, with Hill back they may have a shot at the playoffs. seriously if we sent the whole cubs roster down to triple A do you think they could win? i really don't without lee. I don't believe so either...
  15. A Manager who yells at the players and acts like an ass won't make Jacque Jones, et al hit the cutoff man or pay attention on the basepaths. One who hits the players the only place they'll feel it - in the pocket book - may get results. I don't know if its permissible but, some kind of a progressive fine system for each fundamental mistake would probably get Jones to hit the cutoff man once in a while.
  16. Nope, he got sent down. Rusch is in line again. That's great for Iowa, they're only 4 back in the loss column to Nashville, with Hill back they may have a shot at the playoffs.
  17. So is Rich "if he bats, I will walk him" Hill up next?
  18. Prior who?
  19. Only 4 BB by Cubs pitchers today? What's up with that? Any guesses on Dusty' excuses for yet another pathetic attempt at Baseball by the Cubs?
  20. How about OBP among all players that have started every game in the season? I dunno about that - it would be hard to check on since different teams have played different numbers of games thus far, but I can tell you this: Pierre's OBP in the leadoff spot is the worst among qualified batters in MLB. Cedeno's OBP in the #2 spot is second worst among batters with 75 AB or more at that position in the order. Our OBP in the 1 and 2 spots in the order is actually worse so far this year than it was in 2005, when we had that fabulous 1-2 punch of Patterson and Perez. hilarious. But, but, but we haven't been dealing with a full deck, it's the injuries!!
  21. Two baserunners in one inning? I didn't think that was possible, I thought it was against the rules.
  22. But does he catch the ball? How fast is he? Can he sac bunt a runner from first to second? Can he play multiple positions in the infield? Is he a switch hitter? Those are the things Cubs look for. But, it appears that he can play Baseball which, is something the Cubs don't look for...
  23. Not having been on the basepaths in such a long time, I think he got lost between 1st and 2nd.
