  1. I believe Hill' going to turn out to be the stronger of the two, a solid 3, maybe even a 2 someday. Don't see that for Marshall...
  2. Not according to BBTN, all of them, Nolasco included are future Cy Young winners.
  3. Watched BT last night and of course, they were ready to award the Cy Young to Anibal Sanchez along with anointing the Marlin as Baseball' Best. But, back to the point, they showed some of Sanchez' stats over his last six starts: 41 IP, 28 K, 1.83 ERA (including the No Hitter) so, I looked at Hill' last six starts: WL IP H ER K ERA 2-2 35 25 11 30 2.83 Not as good as BT's newly appointed greatest picther of all time but, not bad. Think anyone' noticed beyond us? BT - why do I watch this crap?
  4. On one hand I would have liked to see Pie get called up, on the other, I don't Pie anywhere near Baker and his rookies learn by watching others crap. Nor do I want Pie singled out in Press for every mistake he makes while the Pierre's and Jones', etc. get a free pass and in fact, are defended for their bone-headed play.
  5. Full Article CLASS! You don't hear a lot of players leaving bitter. Who wouldn't want to play in Wrigley in front of great fans... Jacque Jones? Perhaps, if Jacque didn't get doubled-off on fly balls every other game or take out divots with his throws the Wrigley faithful wouldn't be as harsh.
  6. It appears Hill may be getting over the mental barrier of thinking a perfect is necessary to get Major League hitters out. He's trusting his stuff and going after hitters instead of reacting to them, I too, was guilty of thinking he'll be AAAA pitcher because, I thought he'd never overcome the mental pratfalls of the game. There are many other LHP's with lesser stuff, such as his mound opponent yesterday, Lowry, who are effective, no reason Hill can't accomplish the same.
  7. The Neifi-esc Pedro Feliz (lifetime .295 OBP, .443 SLG) comes thru for the Giants, why is it always the average to below average Joes who tear up the Cubs?
  8. Take your pick Hill on the 1st (vs. ARZ) or 6th (vs. PIT)
  9. Love what Hill has done thus far, IMO, in 2007, he'll be as good, if not better than his SF counter-part today.
  10. I look at what Lowry' doing and I believe Rich Hill can, at least, be as good. I believe he's got better stuff than Lowry, there's no reason, he can't make an effective 3 or 4 in 2007.
  11. He started ranting first about the medical staff saying that all these picthers come up here and within weeks they are on the DL. He also ranted that once they are on the DL they fall off the face of the world and he said in not so many words to stop lying about all the injuries and the return dates You wouldve had to listen to him rant about jones before, there was just the latest thing. I agree with EVERYTHING he says though, Jones plays sloppy baseball, getting caught off second a few times, throwing the ball all over the place cost us a lot of runs possibly, and he said it perfectly, "its not like Jacque jones scares anyone" a handful of times? it happens at least 2 times a week, and there is absolutley no excuse at getting doubled off a base more than 2 times in a yaer, jacque is on what now, 6 or 7 after yesterday This is all Hendry's fault with his stupid "he can catch the ball" bs. If I hear that one more time out of his mouth I don't know what I'll do. It's ridiculous! Not to excuse Jones but, I wonder how much of this sloppy play is a function of Dusty' not holding veterans accountable for they're poor play approach? Has anyone seen Jones play as Twin? From what little I've seen of Twins they play smart, alert Baseball.
  12. I hope you're successful, having never attended a Cubs convention, I was wondering if serious Baseball is discussed or are Hendry and Co. just hit with a bunch of meaningless vanilla questions? Garbage like - Who gets to choose the game day jersey?, etc.
  13. I wouldn't put to much stock in what JoBo has done this year - Smoke and Mirrors.
  14. No doubt, it'll get him a spot on the bench Saturday viewing the multi-talented Will Bynum (LHP going for SF Friday), which raises another question - Dusty why is OK to platoon rookies but, not veterans?
  15. Trying to kill the Snakes?
  16. Indeed it is, one of rare occassions Mariotti makes sense and a good point.
  17. Yet other article attempting to paint Dusty as the victim: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0608280121aug28,1,1170439.story?coll=chi-sportsnew-hed This and other articles by Dusty apologists are growing quite tiresome, face it, Dusty, you're a poor manager and no amount excuse making is going to hide that fact.
  18. Pierre is going to get a multi-year contract offer from someone. I hope it isn't the Cubs. If he accepts arby and plays here one more year, then I'm fine with him sticking around. But I really don't want him signed to a multi-season deal. Yep! I can't see Hendry signing Pierre to a multi-year deal knowing Pie is getting very close... I disagree, I can readily see Hendry being doped by Pierre' recent success and his "hard working" approach into signing him to a multi-year deal. Maybe no Baker next season will keep Pierre from re-signing but, I believe Hendry' going to offer a multi-year deal, see Rusch and Perez.
  19. This is what I would do. Offer Pierre arbitration-we would like him to decline, but if he accepts, it wouldn't be that bad to have him play CF for another year. Do not sign him to a multi-year deal. exactamundo! And make it clear up front in the negotiations that we're only interested in a one year deal since Pie will soon be ready. We have a winner!
  20. Anyway we could put these statistics in front of Hendry?
  21. How can something so simple be beyond them? Scoring runs begins and ends with baserunners, the more you have the greater are chances you'll score runs.
  22. Hendry isn't a young man. He's 5 years younger than Dusty. And he was around the college game most of the time. As far as I can tell, college baseball is even more "old school" in its approach than MLB. There aren't too many Beanes in NCAA. Hendry is a "baseball man", the kind of guy with relationships throughout the sport, and a complete unwillingness to think his contemporaries are anything but the best at what they do. I had high hopes for Hendry, largely because I ignored all the signs that he completely undervalued the walk (both in terms of negative value associated with giving them up, and positive value when taking them). And the fact he coached at the college level has shown up in some of his acquisitions. I may be way off but, if Hendry had a choice between a good Baseball player and an athlete who currently isn't a good Baseball player but loaded with potential, he'd choose the athlete 10 out of 10 times. As a college coach you'll take a chance on a good athlete and try turn him into a good Baseball player however, it’s not a wise thing to do at the Major League level that is, if you're interested in winning.
  23. Doesn't Ramirez know the progression is: HR 3B 2B 1B or 1B 2B 3B HR?
  24. What of Rusch for Diaz? Looking at aquiring Diaz makes way too much sense for Hendry...
  25. Well, that kills any interest I might have had in Leyland. Check out the Tigers offensive stats for this year. This has been a very lucky team and Leyland is getting a lot of undeserved credit, imo. Guess OBP doesn't mean much to Leyland either, where in the world did Baker and Leyland get the idea that Perez is a top of the order guy? The Tigers success is due largely to their pitching, having watched quite a few of their games I've noticed offensively, they're just as aggressive as the Cubs. In fact their team OBP is in the lower half of all of Baseball yet, they're 10th in RS, for whatever reason, the BA with RISP has taken a huge spike this year. Time and time again some one comes up with the big hit that, elusive clutch hitting.
