  1. Not sure about Rocky. Hopefully Hill's 90MPH fastball will keep his arm under less stress than a 98MPH fireballer. After Woody and Prior, I'm into pitchers who can take the ball every time out over guys who shred their arms trying to break the land-speed record on their fastballs. If I'm not mistaken, Zito' fastball isn't much faster than 90 MPH, if it is at all, yet, he's been able to have some major league success.
  2. I believe its fairly simple, if Hill keeps throwing strikes and Zambrano doesn't, Hill will surpass Zambrano as the Cubs #1 starter.
  3. Wish there wasn't any runners on for this would be the perfect opprotunity to brush back/plunk Dunn.
  4. What, he swung? Would have liked to see that...
  5. Freel didn't dive, he just couldn't get to it. Thanks
  6. I don't have access to video, was that ball catchable or did roll to the wall as a result of Freel un-necessairly diving?
  7. Its soo painfully obvious Sulley, look crap like Castro is taking picthes, its the Reds approach vs the Cubs, take, take, take, take...
  8. Griffey walks, throw it down the middle Hill, they're not going to swing!!!!
  9. Juan Castro, he of the lifetime .272 OBP, walks, the Reds MO vs. the Cubs take, take, take, think the Cubs and Rothschild are smart enough to take advantage of this?
  10. I believe people are suggesting Rich Hill has been better than Z since the middle of last season. There are causes for concern for Z though - his back, his weight, his BBs. Since August 1: Rich Hill: 83.2 IP, 2.47 ERA, 84 K/21 BB, 0.91 WHIP, 11 HR Carlos Zambrano: 78 IP, 4.62 ERA, 68 K/44 BB, 1.47 WHIP, 8 HR Carlos has better stuff and has a much longer and better history but Hill obviously has been much, much better over the last half season. This may be a simplistic view on my part but, if Hill continues to consistently throw strikes along with hitting his spots and Zambrano doesn't, Hill will be the Cubs defacto ace. Until Zambrano consistently throws strikes he'll always be a level below the Chris Carpenters, Roy Oswalts, etc.
  11. I don't know what' worse the Cubs losing in the manner that they did or hearing about the beginning of the end for Prior (I guess that wasn't much of a shock).
  12. When the weather heats up That could be June or July, of course, it goes without saying Slappy will hit a HR before Soriano does - so Cub Like.
  13. Does anyone have a guess as to when Soriano' going to homer? I'm guessing late May.
  14. The Reds bullpen will blow up today, book it...
  15. At first glance, one could mistake Floyd' CBS Sportsline Game Center picture for Neifi...
  16. Why do get the feeling that if Soriano' on any other team in Baseball he has at least 1 HR by now? Watch, it's going to take him a month+ to get going by which time the Cubs will be in a big hole.
  17. Hold on second, did the Cubs actually pitch a scoreless first inning at home? When was the last time that happened? 2003?
  18. I'm as fustrated as anyone however, realtive to last season there is far too much quality in this lineup. They're, to borrow a term from Hockey, gonna get her going, its not like were talking of a lineup with Slappy and Perez hitting 1&2 along with whatever crap Dusty decided to pencil in at 1B. I still believe 1-7 this is the best lineup in the NL Central, they'll bare it out.
  19. The saving grace is Piniella won't continue to find reasons to play Isturis as the great Dusty would have. We'll see the Riot before long...
  20. I'm calling another Izturis boot to prolong the inning.
  21. well here' s the thing about the pepsi machine....he won't swing at bad pitches, but when he gets on base he really clogs them up....so its a wash Think about trying to cover 2b with the Pepsi machine bearing down on you.
  22. That's OK if you get rid of ball quickly ala David Eckstein.
  23. The Pepsi machine could play SS better than Izturis and, probably get on just as often.
  24. ...but its not OK to pitch to him with opposing runners on, most especially balls anywhere near the dirt.
  25. Marquis perhaps headed for another quality start? I gotta think if the Cubs continue to get QS they're going win some ballgames. Of course, at the moment, it appears the QS must be of shutout/no hit/perfect game variety.
