  1. Ohman effective? What the heck is going on today?!
  2. Seriously, is it permissible to fine a player for not taking at least two pitches when facing someone like Vargas? Surely, Perry must have told them - look this guy got nothing to fool you with nor, can he throw the ball past you, take some pitches. He'll fall behind in the count and then set it on a tee for you.
  3. They can, from time to time, they just have a bad approach at the plate that causes them to look completely impotent. I thought this Perry dude was supposed to change that somewhat. I don't see that much of a change. We hit the good pitchers but still get owned by lefties and make no namers look like Cy Young. I still can't belive that Sosa kid 1 hit us yesterday. Its disgusting. Not only lefties but, complete garbage lefties like Vargas.
  4. Let's see, Vargas BP tossing lefty - check, issues a BB every other inning - check -- Cubs see 17 pitches in two innings - check
  5. Why is that every Joe Schmoe reliever some pitching desperate team decides to convert to starter and throw against the Cubs ends up completely dominating them? It's works every BLOODY time!!!!!!! I'm convinced Ohman, Erye and Howry could shut the Cubs down, Hendry ought to trade them to the Reds so we could confrim this...
  6. I've got a novel idea how about Z directing all that "fire" and "intensity" towards pitching ahead in count? This would be a refreshing change from the usual falling behind every hitter including the bat boy, getting ripped and PO'ed.
  7. I'd really like to believe a Zambrano miracle will occur such as scoreless first inning let alone, keeping the Cubs in game. However, the realist in me says Zambrano puts the Cubs in a 3 run hole (along with issuing 3 BB's) after the first.
  8. Hill - first pitch strikes to 7 of the first 8 batters faced - are you watching "Ace"?
  9. Despite the one-sidedness of the series I believe the Bulls are close, adding a serious low post threat in the off season should be priority 1 for Paxson. If he's able to successfully do so while retaining one of Deng or Gordon, they'll have a real good chance to advance further in the playoffs.
  10. I hate people sometimes. It really pissed me off. It was a picture perfect night and the field looked beautiful. The Cubs just won. Why would you trash your own field after a win? I believe many of the beer tossing people aren't true Cub fans (and probably not of Baseball for that matter), they attended for the game for the "experience". As a result, they really don't care about the condition of Wrigley Field or the Cubs - so the beer flies.
  11. Izturis, how sad is it that the at bat vs Farnsworth (03, I think) is probably the offensive highlight of his career? I could be wrong, but I think you're thinking of Alex Cora. And I think it was against Clement in 04. But again, I could be completely wrong. My memory on that one is foggy. What keeps coming to mind with Farnsworth was the low and away slider (3-2?) that Julio Franco crushed to right center after a bunch of fouls. I think you're right, boy, was I off on that one, therefore, Izturis hasn't any offensive highlight to hang his hat on.

  13. Who knowns maybe this team will wake up and realize it should pound a LHP once in a while. Tonight would be nice...
  14. As mentioned above, Paxson is well aware of the need for an inside scoring presence, given the Knicks (Bulls own their pick) have only a .019 chance at winning the Lottery. I doubt he'll be able to address need for an inside scoring option via the Draft. He may have to trade one of Deng or Gordon along with the Knicks' pick. If it nets a Kevin Garnett, I'm for it, team him up with the likes of Deng or Gordon along with Hinrich, Nocini, etc. and the Bulls have a pretty good chance of being dominate in the future. The Bulls won't beat the Pistons this year but, they're on their way up, the Pistons window of opportunity won't be open much longer.
  15. Not to mention he's pale shadow of the player he used to be, don't be fooled by one good game. His best days/effectiveness are way behind him.
  16. Are you suggesting that Larry may have found and fixed something the great Dave Duncan and Cards coaching staff didn't find or fix? Isn't that against the law or impossibility? And don't forget Leo Mazzone and the Braves coaching staff. I remembered that as well, however, we all know its a mortal sin to question the Braves MO.

  18. Their lineup to date is better than the Cubs. I just don't think they are running away with the div., which I loosely define as being 10 games up on Sept. 1. They very well could win it, however. Will it continue to be so once Soriano starts to hit? Having gotten nothing from Soriano, the Brewers have still only scored 5 more runs than the Cubs - 117-112.
  19. I was gonna say the exact same thing. The Reds had such a great April last year they stayed in contention playing mediocre ball the rest of the way. The Reds were also a less talented team getting awfully flukey pitching last April. True but, I find it hard to believe that a rotation made up of the likes of Claudio Vargas and Dave Bush is going to allow them to play .600 ball. Add to this Ben Sheets with a groin injury(as we know, groin injuries have a way staying around all season) and the prospect of them running away with the Central doesn't appear good.
  20. Atlanta? The Brewers are pretty damn good. They're all right. But the times they beat us, they trotted out guys like Claudio Vargas. And we made Jeff Suppan look like Cy Young. We did beat Sheets both times, so I guess we have that going for us. I'll agree, the Brewers are the best team in the NL Central. But being the best team in the NL Central does not equate to being a good team. Any team getting wins from the likes of Claudio Vargas and bigs hits off the bats of Craig Counsell and Tony Graffinino is not the best of any division.
  21. Heat, playing and hacking with all this "energy", up only 3? The Bulls may not win today but, clearly Miami hasn't much of a chance, they're nearly done.
  22. So, how many RBI's will cream of crap Counsell have today? In addition to this team underperforming, the most frustrating aspect of this season may be below average players Counsell, Wilson, et. al. looking competent vs.the Cubs.
  23. How about this: Lee hitting a HR or Zambrano issuing less than 5 BB's in his remaining starts?
  24. At this point a QS from Miller would be considered a near miracle.
  25. Lord knows why. I'm pretty sure he played SS his whole time at LSU, and has played some SS in the minors. At worst he'd be adequate, and his bat is so much better than Izturis/Cedeno that it'd make up for the difference in defense. Yeah. My guess is they don't think his arm is strong enough to play SS, but hell that hasn't stopped Eckstein. Heck, there's little leaguers with more of an arm than Eckstein, his arm can't be that bad.
