I'll take that, really, given our expectations of Illinois' football it's been phenomenal, did not think much of DeVito but, he's actually a competent QB. I expected an improved D of course, not to this extent, and a good running game. The surprising aspect has been the play of DeVito and the WR's nobody, talks about Williams, Bryant and Hightower, watching them the first game of season I came away with who the hell are those guys and where the hell did they come from? Still, it wouldn't shock me one bit if the Illini are dogs on the road at Nebraska. Heck, they were nearly an opening 8 point dog, at home, to a team they were clearly superior to in Minnesota.

NFL trade deadline is fast approaching, who should the Bears trade for more draft capital? I'd be Ok with any or all of Quinn (has checked out and who can blame him), Montgomery (RB's are a dime a dozen, Herbert is more than adequate), Roquan Smith (Bears aren't going to pay him and they shouldn't, he's not what they want for the present defense scheme), who else? Eddie Jackson?

I'd like to think attempts will be made to protect Fields in both personnel and scheme, do not know if anything will work. Will respect this coaching staff quite a bit more if they at least try to adjust and make improvements.

A hard schedule that was supposed to be 2nd easiest, that ended up being harder because teams in a similar place (Giants, Jets, Falcons, Patriots) ended up much better than the Bears. Ultimately though, I do think some of those teams will come back down to Earth, and I expect the Bears to pick around 6-10. Yea I think some mean reversion will come a little, but the Bears also are burnt up their easy part of the schedule. If I was putting money it, I'd say 6-10 too, but top 5 is still in play. I believe there's a very high probability, certainly closer to 1.00 than, say, .5, the Bears will be picking top 5 in 2023.

I have to think, after the bye week, there's got to someone else starting at C in New England. I do not know the size of the impact but, I suspect the C not getting blown up 9 out 10 plays will lead to a more positive result. If these coaches are a step up from the last, we'll see some changes, benching Pettis, Smith-Marsette and Mustipher are a few that quickly come to mind, I'd probably also, remove Jones Jr. as the punt returner.

I wouldn't be so quick to brand them as bad, they still have Rodgers and, I'm certain the piss yellow and green pixie dust will work its magic and the OL will improve.

Why are you talking about lobs and high-points? I didn't say horsefeathers about lobbing or throwing the ball high. Just releasing the ball high. Think sidearm pitcher vs. an over the top delivery. You can throw fastballs for every arm angle. Just like you can throw a football accurately and with velocity from any arm angle. He went with the 3/4 delivery when it should have been over the top. my point about not lobbing or high-pointing the throw is about the play design, I didn't say you were making that argument. He's got one throw he can make to Kmet safely, and he likely threw it from an arm slot that felt the most comfortable to him. He didnt side arm it as you suggest in your baseball analogy, the release point is at the top of his helmet - farther up then 3/4. But theres also the issue of the play call. Getsy has to understand the players he has. He has to understand that his o-lineman are terrible pass blockers up the middle and either wiff or become statues far too often. He also has to understand that Justin Fields inst Peyton Manning and isnt going to stand as tall as he possibly can in the pocket while throwing directly over the top of 6'-5" guys. Why call a play that requires JF to do something he just doesn't seem to be geared up or built to do? Eh. It's fine. Mooney catches the ball cleanly it's a TD. It didn't require him to break any tackles to score. No reason to limit yourself to inside the end zone when you just have to break the plane. The further in the endzone you are, the smaller it gets. it was forth down, and they dont completely limit themselves since they still had Monty out of the backfield. Fields never would have had the time to get to Monty, but that's your pitch/catch/and run to the end zone route, not your designed first read You can't blame Fields for this one, it's all Mooney, he had two hands on the ball and still couldn't catch it cleanly, should have been a TD period.

His free agency was indicative of he wanting to wait a year mostly. Maybe grade him on intent of Ogunjobi, but since it actually didn't go through I'll give him a break. Again tankity tank. Even your first draft, you're establishing which positions you think are high-priority and which ones you can try to get cheap with. I hate his choices. I to very much disliked the defense, defense nonsense in this year's draft, next year he's got no excuse to keep from trying to load up on offense, be it in the draft or FA. Meaning I'm willing to give him another shot in 2023. However, if that horsefeathers goes DL with a quite probable top 5 pick without first addressing C and the OL in FA - I'm done with him.

Occasionally, he has plays without pressure. Not as often as he should, but sometimes. And on those plays, he frequently looks bad. Pretty sure the EPA/play stats disagree with your assessment of how he does when he has time, but maybe I'm analyzing the data wrong from what I've seen. Cannot recall the post however, was there not some statistics of his rating being over 100.0 when given a clean pocket or no pressure? How can that be frequently bad?

Maybe seeing Montgomery takes some time, which, nearly half the time, Fields doesn't have, don't how you can properly evaluate a QB under those conditions. Pressure is a QB's kryptonite no matter who that happens to be, Rodgers, Mahomes et. al. are terrible, fail to see open receivers with lineman constantly in their faces.

At the very least they could end the Smith-Marsette and Pettis experiments and give those snaps to Jones Jr. and Harry. Also, go more play-action on first down, some more of the quick passes and screens they did yesterday, more rollouts etc. Whether they want to admit it or not, the starting point/assumption is the line cannot pass block, they'll be pressure on every passing attempt so, if possible, find something that Fields and, mainly, the receivers can execute. Sounds near impossible, there's got to be something that can be exploited, I think.

Once again, it's impossible to do anything via the pass when half of your OL is a turn style.

Blaming Fields or, Getsy for that matter, most especially on the last attempt and for last night is incorrect. Twice Fields put the ball on the receiver' hands one of them should have been caught, granted, there was a blatant PI on the Pettis attempt nevertheless, it should have caught. What's Fields supposed to do? Catch the ball for the receivers as well? That goof-ball Smith-Marsette dropped an eminently catchable ball as well, it's not about these WR's getting open, it's about their inability to catch the horsefeathering ball. Guess maybe try Harry and Jones Jr in place of Pettis and Smith-Marsette, what's the worse they can do? Drop 10 out 10 catchable passes? That's pretty much what they're getting from Pettis and Smith-Marsette. I also believe Fields is nearing his breaking point with these stone-handed clowns, said something to the extent of he's really getting tired of hearing we're so close, its coming.

Forgot to mention Reiff and Schofield too. Pringle, etc. St. Brown, Pettis, etc Letting Daniels go was horsefeathering stupid. You can't tell me he wouldn't be a better C than Mustipher. Daniels was drafted with the idea of possibly becoming a C I agree, Mustipher at C is the primary reason the line gets blown up so often in pass protection, there's no way Daniels would have been worse.
