He's playing behind a re-built OL and yes, something' not quite right. I know it's only a half but, I think its a safe bet to say the Packers' recent run on HOF QB's ends with Rodgers.
-
Not to mention the NFL has incredibly stringent rules for unvaccinated players in terms of masking, testing, contact tracing, interacting with the public and the media, etc. Well, stringent for all unvaccinated players except Rodgers, that is. He's a baaaad man.
-
turned it on for two minutes. some highlights: "coercion from owners for players to get vaccinated" "my body, my choice" "i'm only the 2nd non-vaccinated person to test positive" "people calling it a pandemic of the non-vaccinated is a total lie." "how come if the vax is so great, why are people still dying from covid?" "we don't know a whole lot about it (the vaccine)" EDIT: he's taking the horse medicine. Oh my God, so many logical fallacies in there. The intersection of logic and Rodgers is an empty set, I know he's an athlete and all but, this man went to Cal-Berkeley? The same place that has an affiliation with a Fields Medal winner and several Nobel Laureates including the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics?

That's OK and when he does contact the virus I want the horsefeathers to follow through, don't rush to the ER with your tail between your legs, you're sick. Stay away, handle and take care of it on your own, pay the price for such wanton irresponsibility, ignorance and stupidity. rodgers has covid now. My mistake, messed that up, still, I stand by the message - want to be an anti-vaxxer, etc.? Fine, just don't go rushing for treatment, taking up valuable space, pay the price.

Reason #999,999,999 Pace needs to be removed as the Bears GM.
-
So, I just posted in the other NFL thread that the NFC is terrible re: Saints making it in. But really, the NFC is terrible. The Bears are behind the 8-ball with 5 losses, but they definitely can sneak in again as an 8-win ish team. LA, Arizona, GB, Tampa, and Dallas are for sure in the playoffs. Lions are for sure not making it. The other teams are: Saints- starting Trevor Siemien/Taysom Hill 49ers- always injured, Jimmy G better keep playing like yesterday or they'll be playing a rookie QB WFT- QB situation is a mess NYG- Daniel Jones is their QB, team is worst than Bears PHI- Jalen Hurts is their QB SEA- Geno Smith is their QB MIN- Cousins is solid, Bears have a shot to take care of them to get edge CAR- Sam Darnold is their QB ATL- Ryan is old and team is worse than Bears And these teams are fighting for 2 spots. Nobody on this list seems like a sure bet to coast toward a wildcard berth. None are probably winning a playoff game anyway, but in the Bears situation, they gotta try to compete. They don't have a 1st so they need to win as many games as possible to make that pick further down in the draft. I honestly don't think they will trade anyone. Even trying to pseudo compete, I would still try to trade Robinson, Hicks, and one of the QBs. If anyone gives anything for Foles, that's a no-brainer. I'd also give up Dalton for a decent offer, though I think he's a guy they could bring back as the #2 next year. Bears got dead money counting for him anyway, may be able to lower that for a guy that Fields seems to genuinely like and learn from. Hicks, to me, is just taking up space. He's not a big difference maker so far this year. They've had good games without him, bad games like yesterday with him. Give the reps to other guys (Nichols, Blackson, Tonga) to see how big of a role they can have in the future. Robinson is a completely different situation though. He's obviously not performing this year, but maybe not completely his fault. May be killing his ability to get a 3rd round comp for him with his non-production. I think he's looking at a 1-year deal if things keep going this way. So, you're maybe looking 4th or 5th round comp. And that's in 2023 anyway. If the Bears can even get a 4th in 2022 for him, they gotta do it. They only have 5 picks (2 difference making picks) next year, another would be nice. 2022 picks are WAY more valuable than 2023 at this point, given the cap issues and like 32 free agents on the roster. Agree, I am not expecting any trades even though I want them to happen. Robinson and Hicks seem like possibilities and should be traded if a trade is out there. I expect the team to keep everyone to try to be the 7 seed again. If all those trades in the original post were made the bears would have: 2022: 2, 3, 3, 3, 5, 5, 5, 6, 7 2023: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 7 But we'll end up with 2022: 2, 3, 5, 5, 6 2023: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 Pace said the team would be aggressive, so hopefully they don't trade more picks away to patch their holes The realistic plan is pretty clear - trade any non-building blocks of value for draft picks, play those young building block players now, focus on Justin Fields improvement, fire Nagy - all with an eye on 2023 being the year to start dominance of the NFC North. Rodgers will be history by then, think there's a real good chance both Packers and Vikings will be in downward spirals, 2023 the year to shoot for.
-
I agree with all the sentiments, what I do not understand is why try to cover it up? Such things always have a far more devastating effect when attempts are made to hide them, deal with them immediately. It'll be terrible but, not this bad.
-
Guess I'll post this here - https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bears/yet-more-damning-evidence-justin-fields-is-in-the-wrong-hands/ - if the McCaskeys truly care about winning they'll take action now. I'm convinced they do not care about winning because lack there of hasn't hit them where it counts - in the pocket book. Do not know if its possible to really make an economic impact such that they'd notice and take action.
-
I think he made the decision on his own while Pace likely raised the issue with him from time to time. Thanks, I know a guy who is defending Nagy by saying this decision was taken out of his hands. I do not believe it matters, we'd see the same results from any QB in Nagy' system - lack of preparation, not putting your players in a position to succeed, calling for snaps on things that aren't there, etc. - that's all on him.
-
Easily, Penn State is winning at most, two more games this season, Rut and MD. The MD game is questionable, its at MD, could see them getting blown out or winning a close game. It's insane that they beat Wiscy on the road and Auburn at home, but completely turned into a pumpkin against Iowa and can't recover Clifford being injured and continuing to play while being so has had a big negative effect on their offense, not a surprise. Also, not surprising what the Illini did to them via the ground game, they're best defensive player is out and the Illini just manhandled and pushed them all over the field. If the Illini had a competent QB the game wouldn't have been very close. The games against OSU, U of M and MSU have chance to be real ugly for PSU.

Seriously? This MF'er needs to be shown the door like now, how could any ownership just sit back and let this moron continue to coach their team?
-
There appears to be some sort of metaphysical force that stops the Bears from having a current generation, professional level offense. I do not think any change, from a coaching perspective, QB perspective, GM perspective, will ever change it. It will remain this way until I am dust. We used to think along those same lines regarding the Cubs winning the WS, anything can happen. Of course, it did take an ownership change so, you may be correct.
-
Watch, ownership will finally grow a pair and fire Nagy, next guy will install some basic stuff, like screens, play to Fields' strengths and it'll be like a horsefeathering revelation. They'll start to resemble an offense putting some points on the board.
-
I think the Bears are trying the quick passing game. The problem is the extent of their quick passing game is to have all the WRs run 5 yards, turn and stop. Stop routes don't work to Fields' strengths as he doesn't anticipate throws well. He's not a guy that's going to have the ball out before a WR comes out of his break. He's a "see it open, throw it" type of QB (Cutler was too FWIW). So, the coaching staff is doing him no favors. Also, the Bears haven't executed or maybe even attempted a screen pass since the long Cohen TD in 2018. Isn't that supposedly the best way to slow down a pass rush? There was a screen attempt yesterday, of course, it was late in the fourth during garbage time. You'd think they would have, you know, prepared for the blitz with such plays, sure didn't appear so. If the Cleveland game wasn't an indicator Nagy should have been fired this game should be, you, me, the whole world knew Tampa Bay was going to come at them with blitz after blitz. Apparently, Nagy and Co. didn't get the memo.

Yeah, sure, this is akin to that those idiots from Alaska and Maine being "upset" or "disturbed" with Trump' behavior as President, WTF - ever.
-
...and why does every other team seem to have a good scramble drill where receivers find the open spot after the QB starts to move out of the pocket? That simply must be bad coaching. Has to be. Shouldn't a supposedly good WR like Robinson be able to do that despite the lack of coaching?
-

-
I'm going to exaggerate a bit but, why is it every other team in the history of the NFL is able to go to some quick passing game to take pressure off their QB except the Bears? It's absolutely beyond comprehension, is it really that difficult to execute?
-
Bears receivers, on the whole, are worth horsefeathers, they're not helping Fields out, cannot consistently get open, multiple drops, I'm very much for trading Robinson. He's playing terribly, Nagy is certainly to blame however, he just flat out sucks.

There's a large body of evidence to suggest a big offensive leap coinciding with an improving Fields is never going to happen with Nagy. Today' NFL is all about offense, seems 3/4 of league with various weaknesses and strengths can still move the ball and score points at will, it starts at the top. Honestly, is it Nagy's full part? The Bears couldn't get a consistently good offense with Lovie Smith. They couldn't get a consistently good offense with Matt Trestman. They couldn't get a consistently good offense with John Fox (lol). They haven't been able to get a consistently good offense with Nagy. Talent acquisition has to be a huge part of the problem here. Agreed a large part of the blame is on Pace as well, that's why they both should be shown the door after this season.

I still remember, a long long time ago, watching a Cubs / Brewers game and some typical idiot Bear fan gets in a shouting match with a Brewer fan. At the time Rodgers had just been drafted and this guy goes "Rodgers? That's your QB now! Hahah!" ...I'll wait for the Jordan Love era to begin before I make any judgements about him. But I agree, one of the most maddening things about the Packers is how many mediocre players they make look really good. It's a tribute to them, but I'll admit to jealousy over that. And I do hope it comes to an end when Rodgers is gone. When Rodgers hasn't been able to play, the true mediocrity of the Packers has been revealed. So we'll see. I remember waiting years and years for Favre to finally show his age and breakdown, relishing the fact that there is no way they struck gold on a QB twice, especially someone who slipped in the draft and was sitting on the bench for the past 2 seasons. While it can be notoriously difficult to draft and develop a legit franchise QB, it is becoming more and more clear to me just how much organizations can up the odds. Favre to Rodgers, Brady to Mac Jones (I know, still pretty early but dude is head and shoulders above the other 2021 rookie QBs so far), Peyton to Luck, Reid-era Smith to Mahomes, heck even Romo to Dak. That's why I'm not convinced Love will be a bust and its why I'm concerned about Nagy developing a talent like Fields. If Fields hasn't made significant strides by the end of the season, I really really hope they fire Nagy regardless of record. If you blow this with Fields it will be a long time before I can get excited about anything related to the Bears. I think this loss and the next one coming up in GB has sealed Nagy' fate, he's done after this season. Remaining question is whether Pace follows him - I think he should.
-
Along those lines the best outcome for this season - Fields continues to play and gets valuable experience while the Bears lose enough games to get Nagy and Pace replaced. Because Nagy doesn't get it, there's got to be someone out there who does and would take off with Fields as his QB thereby making the NFC Central theirs. I know its currently pretty grim but, the day is near when the Bears are going to have the best QB in the division and Packers, Lions and Vikings will be in QB waste land and its going to be oh so great. Jones, that no name Packer TE, and any other Packers who look like Pro-Bowlers may not look so with Jordan Love as their QB.- I still remember, a long long time ago, watching a Cubs / Brewers game and some typical idiot Bear fan gets in a shouting match with a Brewer fan. For perspective, teams are 93-364 since the start of the 2019 season when scoring fewer than 20 points. A 0.204 win percentage. The Bears have scored less than 20 points on 22 different times (in 38 games!) and are actually 8-14 in those games for a 0.364 win percentage. Expected W/L in these games would be 4-18. Since the same point, teams are 465-180 (0.721) when they allow 24 or fewer points. The Bears are just 16-12 (.571) when this happens. And 28 of 38 games have had points allowed within this threshold! Expected W/L in these games would be 20-8. So, the Bears have what amounts to an 11-12 win defense (70% of the time), while fielding a 3-4 win offense (60% of the time) over the last 2 1/3 seasons. The results? A perfect split of the difference at 19-19. Great post. The bottom line has always been simple and still the Bears just can’t get their arms around it: The offense isn’t good enough. Except for 2018 - they need to score more points. That’s it. It’s not complicated. It’s the NFL in 2021, you can’t expect to be a winning football team if you aren’t putting up 20+ consistently (and occasionally 30 or 40). There will never be an 85 Bears D or a Ravens 2001 D or even a 2006 Bears D type super bowl again. Gotta roll with the times. Along those lines the best outcome for this season - Fields continues to play and gets valuable experience while the Bears lose enough games to get Nagy and Pace replaced.
